Elnara put her hand over Lore's and squeezed it a bit.

"Thanks," she murmured, smiling faintly at him. She still wasn't certain about how things were going to turn out, but she did feel a bit better. As long as Lore was with her, she felt she would be able to handle anything that might happen.

Earendil chuckled and sat back to watch Lin. He had never heard of katas before - at least, he couldn't remember having heard about it, though the word did tug at his memory, not seeming as unfamiliar as he thought - and he was impressed with the things Lin was doing. In elven terms, she was too small - not too young, one was almost never too young - but too small to begin regular training. Still, to be that young and that dedicated, he knew that one day she would be an excellent fighter.

Daeron sighed a bit and picked up a quill. "If Ada does say anything," he told the two of them, "let me or Nana take care of it. Or Tinuviel."

He paused, then added, "Tinuviel or Nana would be the best choice. Even where Ninako is concerned, he's not ... the best."

What Lin wanted, was to do what her father did, but she wasn't there yet. He was always so stubborn, saying not yet, not yet. Even though she knew she wasn't even suppose to be doing anything yet.

She couldn't really talk, since her mind was completely on the task at hand. Though it was silence she could deal with, even though she was half tempted to see what Earendil was doing.

Elnara smiled gratefully. "Thanks, Daeron," she murmured. There was an awkward silence for several long moments, and then she asked, "Is ... Neko still around? I haven't seen him, and no one's mentioned him ..."

Storm in the meantime had been sweating profusely in his turtleneck sweater under the direct heat of the desert sun. His eyes had lost their usual shine, and he had suddenly turned almost completely lethargic. He was in the process - with Starr's help - of removing his sweater.

Earendil noticed the difficulty Storm was having (such a small neck opening on the sweater for such a big head, he wondered who in the world had designed it for him) and reached over to help. As the shirt slipped off Storm's head (one could almost imagine hearing the small pop of suction), he glanced over at Lin to watch her.

Daeron smiled more easily again and nodded. "Yes, he's still here. He keeps to himself quite a bit lately, but he's here. You might find him in the tannery, he sort of took over Uncle Riordan's workshop ..."

He trailed off, then asked in a low tone, "You've ... been told about him?"

His tone was cold all of a sudden: angry.

Lin paused in mid movement noticing that something was up with Storm and Starr.

"Is he okay?" she inquired curiously.

"We've heard," Lore replied quietly, though he wasn't about to say anything else.

It sounded like a touchy subject enough as it was.

Elnara nodded as well. She really didn't want to get into the whole thing, Daeron seemed upset enough as things were.

"But Neko's all right," she murmured, going back to the origin of his comment, "right?"

Storm plopped down on the ground, sighing an audible sigh of relief. He still looked dopey, however, and his head kept going in little circles as if he were dizzy.

Starr was concerned for her twin, and she waved her hands in front of him to fan him. "It's hot out here," she told Lin and Earendil. "Maybe he should go back inside."

It was impossible to tell from his eyes, which were completely white, but he was having a lot of trouble focusing ... on anything.

Earendil was concerned. He had never seen anyone like this before: at least, not anyone who wasn't visibly injured.

"Maybe we should," he agreed with Starr. He picked up Storm, Starr and Lin, then grabbed Storm's sweater and started heading back towards the castle.

"Isn't it this hot where you come from?" he asked Lin curiously. "Or is it like the Borderlands where you're from? All trees and crazy weather and the like."

Daeron nodded. "Nineko's fine, he's just been keeping to himself a lot. Doesn't see many people anymore. Ninako's been trying to help him, but ... she says he's been crushed, but she holds hope for him."

Lin patted the top of her head to feel out hot it was, sometimes when she becamse too busy she forgot the temperature, but it was quite hot. Since her hair was black and now that she thought about it her clothes were sticking to her.

"I don't know if it's this hot in the summer," she replied back, "I know summer is hot, but I don't remember if it is this hot. It might have been once or twice, but fall and spring says Daddy are the best times of the year because often it is not too hot or too cold. Winter it is cold, it has to be to get ice and snow."

Elnara smiled faintly and nodded. "Then perhaps we should go see him," she murmured, looking at Lore once more. "Perhaps ... perhaps we'll be able to cheer him a little."

"Yay!" Idhril cheered, putting one arm around Elnara's neck and pressing her cheek against her mother's. "Let's go help him!"

She paused. "Help who?"

Silvrendir giggled and tugged on Lore's robes to be picked up. "Nineko, silly," he told his sister. "Mama's Neko!"

"I see," Earendil nodded. "This is about as cool as it gets here, it's actually hotter later in the summer. It rains about once a year, sometimes twice, and then it cools down a bit more; but other than that, it's just like this all day every day."

Daeron nodded again and smiled hopefully. "Perhaps you're right," he murmured. "He was crushed when you left, but Riordan's betrayal was just as bad. If he sees you again, knows that you're all right, and willing to at least attempt to see us all again ... well."

Really, his greatgrandfather needed hope more than he needed anything else.

"This is as cool as it gets?" Lin found that very hard to believe, "No wonder why you don't get ice or snow."

She thought that was a bit of a disappointment, because if this was as cool as it got, how did people stay even cooler. Or she thought, was it possible that Earendil would find her home too cold.

"It sounds like a good idea then," Lore nodded.

He could understand that of sorts, if for no other reason than to see Elnara with her children and see that she is doing well. Lore thought that would be of great help. As he thought about this he bent over to pick up Silvrendir.

As Silvrendir made himself comfortable in Lore's arms, Elnara rose to her feet. "We should see him right away, then," she said apologetically to Daeron. "Thanks though - we'll see you at dinner!"

And with that she took Lore's hand and led him from the room.
