I'm hoping that the next Tau book includes some harder CC options. It would make sense for the Tau to deploy them, too, given their "adaptive" combat doctrine.

If the old rumours are true then the Tau will get Demiurg close combat support to help the kroot out. Kroot will also receive a few changes to put them more in line with other melee units.

Then powered blades on those kroot rifles, and/or or power weapons on battlesuits... it really sucks when marines in power armor dominate the spectrum of enemies and you have a total of one power weapons in the army - and only courtesy of special character...

If current design trends are anything to go by the Tau will either get a lot of vehicle squadrons or a lot of things they never had, but at a high price.

Hot damn! At least we still have Rail Guns, so at least we can have aircraft that can reach out and touch someone without too much concern for terrain...

The fuel tanks in the wings have self-sealing foam to close off damaged areas and prevent further loss of fuel, etc. I think that's what Tau are supposed to be, though. I think that putting too many good close combat units in would throw off the balance of the army, when it's supposed to be all about superior technology and range and skimmers.

True, but it wouldn't be close-range, they would still be using ranged weaponry, such as the Forge World's Twin Burst Cannon Stealth Aircraft. The idea is that they have the tech, I'd just like to see it applied.
