"I should ask more often," Maia said, looking around again. "Do you want to play a game, Dari? We've got a while until Toby wakes up. And then I wanted to ask you what you'd like for Thanksgiving. I couldn't find very many dishes with marshmallows. Fruit salad and sweet potatoes.

"Ambrosia," Dari said easily and slid to his feet. "Sure. I'm working on a new achievement. An extra hand would help. Why are you up so early anyway? You've been sleeping in since moving to Toby's room."

"What achievement?" Maia asked. "Oh, no reason." She shrugged. "It's nice to sleep in, I was always so tired in Oregeon." Apparently doing nothing was exhausting. "Its different here." Sleeping next to Toby, being warm and comfortable made it hard to wake up. "But sometimes I still get the feeling I'm wasting the day." Days like today.

"Defeating a big boss. Come on, I'll show you."
Maia was maybe not the best player, but any help was good help.

Maia followed Dari into the living room. "What game is it?" she asked. Boss? She'd never fought one before. She settled on the couch after hooking up the controllers. She offered one to Dari.

Dari took the controller after plopping in the game and sat down beside Maia. "It's a fantasy game. The boss isn't big in size, it's big in power, but if you play the large sword-wielding man or woman I can heal you and we can defeat it."
The AI was terrible. It never healed you at strategic moments.

Once the battle started, Maia saw what Dari meant. It was a small, very angry boss. And powerful! It nearly took her out in three hits, and she had to avoid blows to keep hp. They did well after that, but it was a long battle.
"We won!" Maia cheered. "That too ages, though. What now?"

Dari looked rather pleased when they won and opened his mouth to respond to Maia when a voice came from the stairwell:
"Now it's time for breakfast," the voice said. Toby came down and yawned his way into the living room with a wave. "Whaddyawant?"

"Toby, good morning!" Maia looked over to him once he came down. She smiled, set her controller down, and went over to him. "How about eggs and sausage? Orange juice?"

Toby smoothed Maia's hair and kissed it. "Sure. What're you up to?"
"We got an achievement," Dari said, powering down the system. He was still smiling.
"Ooh, very nice."

"We beat a boss. Dari told me what he'd like for Thanksgiving dinner, too. What was ambrosia, anyway? It probably had marshmallows in it. "What do you guys want to do today?"

"I don't know. What do you want to do? And what are we making for Thanksgiving?" Toby asked.
"Ambrosia," Dari replied, approaching as well.
Toby made a bit of a face. "Listen, you. I'm the one from the sixties."
Dari smirked in amusement.

"Something we haven't done," Maia suggested. "I think he'd like sweet potatoes, too," she said. She wasn't sure what ambrosia was, but apparently Toby recognized it.

Toby pushed his mouth to the side and considered. They had done a lot of things, and helicopter rides had to be booked weeks if not months in advance short of stealing a federal one which was definitely not a good idea. Six Flags didn't open for a while still.
"We could... go toooo... Oh! We could go hiking. Off-trail," he offered. He began for the kitchen to make breakfast and Dari followed.

Hiking? Oh! She'd wanted to do that for a long while. "In the forest?" She asked. The national forest was supposed to have good trails, wasn't it. Off trail though, didn't that mean more of a chance to get lost?
...It also it'd be meant more of an adventure. She followed the two guys into the kitchen.
