Chiasa looked towards Gab a little sharply. Core was hers, and not Aislin's, or anyone else's for that matter. And she was not happy that the dragon had suggested he should be.

At first Core was surprised. He looked at Aislin, who was a marvelous hue of red. He had suspicions that Aislin did have feelings for him, but they weren't nearly as strong as how she feels about Barick. He wasn't one to step in on that; especially since he belongs to Chiasa. Something like that. Aislin's silence and Chiasa's jealous gaze were pressuring in on him, and it was up to him to try and calm things down before hell breaks loose. But...he knew from past experience in the Academy that a man should never step in when two women are fighting something out, "Gab, I really like Aislin. I do, but I love Chiasa. One day you will know that there is a huge difference between like and love. You like me, but you love Aislin right? I like Aislin but love Chiasa. That's why Aislin didn't 'choose' me; because she likes me but loves someone else. Isn't that right Aislin?" He looked at the rose colored woman and hoped to the heavens what he said made sense.

Aislin nodded her head so hard she made herself dizzy. She did love Core, but she was not in love with Core. Words that she had said months ago echoed in her ears, ringing true. Core was like the brother she'd never had, she couldn't even see him as a lover.
Gab pouted, "The least she could have done, was pick someone who I actually like... The smith... I can't stand him! He makes Lin cry too much! What kind of a mate makes his female cry!?"
The blush faded from Aislin's cheeks and she walked faster down the road. She didn't want to hear this discussed, much less discuss it herself.

"Sometimes you just fall in love, Gab," Chiasa told him. "And she obviously cares about him a great deal if she is so upset when he is hurt. Those aren't the kind of feelings you choose to have."

Gab's words made Core think about an insignificant time in the Academy, when he heard one of the female scientists crying to herself. Another woman came and comforted her. "...No man is worth your tears...and the one who is won't make you cry..." Core said absentmindedly. He had caused Chiasa some tears, and apparently Barick has done the same to Aislin. He closed his eyes to blink away extra moisture that was building in his eyes. ...Synthic... He shook his head, "When a woman chooses who she loves, it comes from her heart. Sometimes it wouldn't make much sense to others; like how you don't understand why she loves Barick. But that's the way things are," He said with a touch of nostalgia in his voice. That woman he looked up to all this time. She caused him so much pain and she was well aware of it. But could it be possible that during all that, he liked Synthic? He looked downwards with a troubled expression.

Chiasa looked to Core. "Are you okay?" she asked.

Core looked up at Chiasa with a smile, "I'm fine," He said.

"You seemed troubled," Chiasa said, still watching him in worry.

Gab reached his tail up and wrapped it around Core's neck, crawling up to curl around his neck. "I still don't like him... A dragon would never make his mate cry.... He would wait until she was ready too..."
Aislin had hurried ahead to one of the vendors and was sorting through his piles of coats. She was looking for something that could blend with the snow, was fur lined, went down to her knees, and had a hood. She hated not having something to cover her head when it snowed or rained, and more than that she couldn't stand the cold, or standing out against the white of the north.

Core smiled for Gab and petted him, "I thought dragons couldn't cry," He said jokingly. He acutally didn't know, so he was half expecting Gab to hiss and correct him. He looked to Chiasa then, "It's nothing that can be resolved now," He said softly.

This made Chiasa look even more worried. "Can't you tell me?" she asked.

Gab picked his head up indignantly, "We cry... We just don't shed water from our eyes like you humans. Are grief is much more vocal, and can't be mistaken for anything but grief."

"I see. I'll have to remember that," Core said and petted Gab again, "I promise I'll tell you the next time we are alone," He said to Chiasa. A public place is hardly a good spot to talk about the Academy in volumes like Core could.

Chiasa nodded, satsified for now with that promise. She then looked ahead to where Aislin was looking at coats.

Aislin hadn't found anything that fit her criteria, so she left the vendor without speaking to him and moved on to a different area. This new vendor had had more white in the pile of coats. She started trying on one and worked through the entire pile.
Gab wiggled happily, "The way we cry you can feel the emotion all the way to your toes."
