@Mino: You must be getting your manga earlier than mine. :/
@Jello: Actually, it has to do with his mother and father.
His father had bright yellow hair, which earned him a title that had to do with yellow/gold.
His mother had bright red hair, which earned her a title that had to do with that color as well.
Red and Yellow make orange, and red, orange and yellow are typically the three main colors people associate with fire. And fire has a heavy significance on the series because of the village he comes from.
So the whole orange thing (even though it was already apparent) has had everything to do with "The Will of Fire".
In other words, they didn't give him an orange jumpsuit because they thought April O'Neil was setting a fashion statement.
Edit: Aaaand Fiend just explained it all in less words than me.

...but color-coding your style of dress to your parent's haircolor doesn't make you a better ninja. It doesn't really matter how he feels on the inside, he should be dressing to be forgettable.
But he's the titular character of an anime, so... that's the difference between Naruto and Jubei.

Panda sorta covered that one, KB.
Its a symbolic thing.
He is the fire which will guide his village.
BAM!
I still don't give a s**t about this manga though.
They killed Asuma, so ******** the rest of the characters.

I don't know, I've been given a lot of clothes over the years and I didn't wear them for like 5 years straight, especially when I was going through growth spurts.
That and I wore toe-covering shoes, because... what the ********. These kids are handling sharp objects.
Like I said, Jubei. There's a ninja for you. He dresses like a regular dude and slaughters people. That's what ninjas do. Back in ye olde japan, ninjers dressed as poor-a** farmers and jumped samurai with shovels.
Yes, kunai are shovels.

This manga was never really about Ninja.
It just used the term Ninja cause it was bored, I think.

I feel better about the whole thing if I just call them "battle mages".

I wouldn't call them all that though.
Rock Lee for instance.
Even Asuma weren't very magic heavy.
They should more or less just be called whatever the ******** we are all call our characters.
Magic-a-woohoo none sense.

The entire series is about Rock Lee being cooler than everyone else. God forbid anyone ever seals a tailed beast in him or gives him the ability to actually use ninjer moves, because then they'll all be completely ******** be I just hate ninetails and kitsune, so the show doesn't appeal to me outside of Rock Lee shenanigans.

I only like Rock Lee and Asuma myself, I didn't mind Neji either.
Mostly Asuma.
Who they killed.
So to me this entire series is pretty much over.

I like that Rock Lee was constantly upsetting the balance of ninju powers by pushing the limits of his body.

HEY.
I liked the show.
I liked the Manga.
THEY KILLED ASUMA!
I had considered on hundreds of thousands of occasions just giving up and making my roleplaying character Asuma.

Yeah. He didn't do it because he knew it already. It just happened that way.
And I kindof need to point out how much that last statement was wrong, KB. >_>
I'm not even sure Jubei Kibagami was a ninja. He feels more like a wandering swordsman. It was Dakuan and Kagero that felt more like ninjas, unless Jubei was a ninja and left his clan. I'd have to re-watch ninja scroll.
In truth, the whole "ninjas were farmers" thing was an idea started by Stephen K. Hayes, as I read. But ninjas were really just samurai special ops. They served under a lord like how the Iga ninja served the Tokugawa clan, and the Fuuma ninja presumably aided the Hojo. Or how you have characters like Sasuke Sarutobi and Saizo Kirigakure serving under Yukimura Sanada as the "Ten Braves of Sanada". They lived in autonomous regions of Japan and gave their skills to the lords that employed them.
They weren't hired assassins or wandering killers that just slaughtered people. Most ninja avoided direct combat and, tactically, would probably just set up fire attacks and catch people off guard. If you were to hire an assassin, it'd probably be some low-life killer samurai who had pretty good skills in kenjutsu and made his living killing for money.
And yes, kunai are -trowels-, used for notching the dirt. Not exactly shovels, but they were still tools. But to say you couldnt kill someone with it when it was sharpened wouldn't be right to say.
Especially when you really -can- kill people with shovels, like the Green Beret e-tool.
