@KB: I at least did part of the water Temple and the entire Ice Cavern before I even started the Fire Temple. When Sheik lists off all of the places that you need to find sages, I think everything is available to you other than the Temple of Time and Gerudo Valley.

Nightsnow Elliterate
She's a goddess of the heavens, isn't she? Not just related to the sun?. And also, the dragons in Chinese mythology are associated with directions. They bring the rains on their specific wind.
Skaldi Norse Goddess of Winter and the Hunt would probably be your best bet...
Can't remember the Sun Goddess name though...was it akameru? ...no...um.. Aha! Amaterasu, that was her name!
As for the Dragons in Chinese Mythology, well, at least they're associated with water. So - not so far away from what Garam's looking for. :3Amaterasu Omikami.

most powerful video game character? That sounds like a poll question to me...
first off, it's definitely not Mario.
Link is pretty weak too, about the same as a 16th level ranger from D&D when at max power.
black mage from the final fantasy series is a pretty good contender, much like black belt from final fantasy 1.
Dragon Warrior was pretty powerful, having powers of both a high level cleric, high level mage, and high end knight with armor and sword.
Raphael in his first appearance of Soul Calibur was broken sufficiently to kill almost everything, but I wouldn't say he was the best.
megaman is a good contender for top spot because he's got the monty hall thing going on.
Some of the characters from FF 7 & 8 were pretty gross and broken, but I'm not sure how many of them could solo the final bosses, something Rydia from FF 4 could feasibly do.
I constitute character power as something that allows you to dominate your environment / opponents, but also has to be earned some how, and has actual play time. Cut scenes and ultimate weapons only available for last level/scene don't really count.
Keeping that in mind, Fauxanadu is a pretty buff 8 bit character.

She is quite, quite badass. I remember playing the old Metroid game and putting in a random code to be able to play her without her suit. I was so surprised to find out that she was a chick, jumping around with long hair and s**t like that.

Wow... if I'd bothered to backread, this might actually be entertaining. Which is good because my fight is over, with dubious circumstances which could make the result either a knockout or a fatality. But I'm just waiting for a result (hint, hint, Vintrict...)

the metroid character was pretty powerful, kind of like mega man. I would also like to put either Alucard or Simon Belmont from Castlevania on the list.

More to the point, Samus starts Metroid with basically nothing. She doesn't even have the ball form at first, so the game really forces you to do a lot of exploring in order to do everything. That, and the original had tonnes of secret areas and passages.
Man, I love that game. I still have it somewhere in the closet with the NES. heart
