Socks first came about in the early 1400's, due to an increase in the wool production but a lack of anything to do with it. The first to use something like a sock was a shepherd late at night in the fields watching over the flock. It was late fall, and was quite cold out. The shepherd had some spare wool cloth on him in case he had to patch his clothing like he always did when he was gonna be gone for more then a day or two. One night was particularly chilly, and while he was going through his pack to find something to use to keep them warm, he remembered his scraps of wool cloth. Quickly sewing them into a rough covering he slipper them over his feet. Immediately his feet began to feel warm. The shepherd realized that he couldn't use them for walking about in, as they would tear apart, but discovered that they fit inside his boots. As soon as he arrived back home he showed his wife, and then ran off to town to spread the news. His idea was taken, and other people became rich off of it, but being in the wool making market, he made enough to support himself comfotably as well.
