Well, in my oppinion that is just the common misconception. I havefun without intoxicants as well. It had been the been around a year before my birthday since I last got drunk.
The fact is no matter what you do, you are you. You still have free will, your coordination is off, but you can still have self control. I have never woken up the next morning with regrets. People see intoxication as an excuse to go nutzs and be stupid. But that is a reflection of the stupidity of the person, not the intoxicant. And I have had my share of intoxicants.
No emily, you are not a prude. Most people start where you are and then their will gets broken. They give in. hate getting drunk the first couple times, then have a time that was really fun. And go from there. There is nothing wrong with not drinking, just know that it is the people that are dumb. Not the tool they use as am excuse to piss themselces and cheat on their significant other.....
There is no excuse. You still know right from wrong, ******** anyone who uses alchohol as an excuse for thwir stupidity....
My friends died drinking and driving. Was it the alchohols fault? No! It was their fault. People dig their own graves.

So now I don't have an excuse not to like it except being an immature little ******** who refuses to have a good time.
God damn it.

I can have fun without drinking, I do it a lot, but when I'm with friends it's nice to sit back and have a few drinks and get drunk and be reckless. It's not so much as a "need to be drunk to have fun thing" as it is an enhancer. I can sit there and play Scrabble for hours while drunk and have the time of my life.
And while I do change a little with my personality it's not really much. I'm already open and don't really care to much about what others think of my actions, alcohol and drugs usually just strip that final layer off so I evolve from a Social Butterfly to a Social ******** Butterfly. xD

If there's anything I've learned already from my youthful seventeen years of life, it's that being an optimist is unwise unless you're immune to pain and disappointment, which I most certainly am not. If you ever dare to hope something will go well, you will only be met with horrible disappointment. On the other hand, if you never expect anything to work out, you will never be taken by surprise when your dreams are crushed, while simultaneously being even happier when something finally does go well.
TLDR; Pessimism suits me better than optimism, not the case for everyone.

Well, you do make sense. But I just choose to laugh when things go bad. Fact is, as buddha says "life is suffering". Thoigh I interpret it different. Life is suffering, so what? If something bad happens, laugh at your misfortune. Seriously. Life goes on.dissapointment is a joke. Just be happy. End story. Thats bow I seeit.
Not as easy to get used toas it is to say it. But when you see the cosmic joke, and realize we are the punch line. The easier it gets.

Someone once said that an optimist sees the world as it should be, a realist sees it as it is, and a pessimist sees both.

Well I don't like alchohol either I just don't care for the taste (but after what omega said abou mead I think I might try that). The thing about alchohol is that when a person drinks to drunkenness their coordination AND judgement become impaired; now most people can retain control while drunk, but alchohol also makes someone more outgoing so if a tard who drove recklessly decided to drunk drive he would drive MORE recklessly than normal and probably cause an accident. Now a normal person with good driving habits would most likely not get into this situation but with bad luck it could happen to them to. So alchohol does enhance a mood but in combination with the wrong people it can be bad so people like Emily, Stray, and myself(usually) are needed to act as designated drivers and such to keep the idiots from death or jailtime. That is my opinion.

Not sure how a pessimist see's the world in both ways.
I like to view myself as an optimistic realist. I hope for the best, but I keep it realistic and don't get my hopes up to much.
Just suits me. Maybe because I'm one of those few people immune to disappointment. xD

Haha, I love how quick people are to call drunk drivers idiots. Seriously, 99% of the population had driven with at least one beer in their system. My friends who died, were by no means idiots, one was an anthropology major, one was a computer genius with semiphotographic memory, and the other was the most dedicated musixian I had ever met. Itwasnt bad luck that killed them. Or stupidity. It was a decision that countless people make every day.
I am the grand fool, I see life as nothing more than surreal absurdity

What do you mean by existentialism? (I ask because it can carry a lot of different meanings. It's a little bit ambiguous.)

I disagree, I don't thing 99% of the population has driven drunk. I have never driven with any alcohol in my system what so ever. I only drink If I know I am going to stay where I am for the night. And that is on the rare occasion that I do drink.

I didnt say 99% of the population drove drunk. I said with one beer in their system. Just a little alchohol. Think of all the times parents go out to a restraunt and had a glass of beer or wine..not everyone is careful.
And by existensialism I mean the phiolosophical school that everyone says is pessimistic when really its about truth and enjoying life
