Belt...

Maximos hoped things would have gone more peacefully, but that was odd. Rain had fiercely attacked hi, it would make sense if he attacked the doctors as well, but he didnt he went for belt...

The shadow stepped forward scooping up the small canister and analyzing it, as he casually made his way behind the doctors. It was such a weird thing, but it had to be important for some reason. Only important things would be able to reach out past the mess Rain's mind was in earlier. He tried to twist and squeeze it, and soon found one spot gave more than the others. With a poke, he pressed the button and much to his surprise a needle point jutted out of one end of the capsule.

Suddenly it all made sense, and he burst into the room, holding the syringe upside down.

Give him this!

Of course he got quite a few odd looks, a doctor shouted for him to be escorted out before he commanded again. His voice as icy cold as it was fierce, a bursting flare of white seething from his right eye. His voice immediately echoed across the ambient shadows of the room making it quite daunting.

Now!

Almost immediately a nurse grabbed the syringe and injected it straight into Rain's chest, like an adrenaline shot. Hoping she hadnt just damned the man, and then looked back to Maximos with a hint of fear looking for some recognition that the threat he posed was over. The shadow simply smiled brightly from ear to ear and very calm and warmly said.

Thank you!

He was never really angry, Maximos had seen death before he just knew time was of the essence and wanted the personnel to act as soon as possible on Rain's behalf. He'd wait a few moments further to see if everyone calmed down, as Maximos had no real understanding of how all these devices worked, or what for what reason that one machine was making a loud constant beep. But he was sure if everyone relaxed, everything was probably alright. And he took a seat in one of the chairs.

Shortly after the syringe was plunged and ejected into Rain's chest, all his muscles arched even more. He gasped desperately for air, and even threw several of the doctors and nurses off of him like ragdolls. Several of them, through intimidation both on Maximos's and Rain's parts, would back away. They would be the lucky ones...

As Rain suddenly reeled his upper body over the edge of the bed, and vomitted. A quite unhealthy amount of blood, black bile, + extra contents splashed onto the floor, quite ruining many doctors' shoes. As he did so, Rain's physique seemed to... well, deflate, in lack of a better term. Whatever had drastically increased his muscle mass was now taking it all back. By the time he had finished, he was back to his normal size.

The condition of his crushed hand and dislocated shoulder were now more apparent, without copious amounts of muscle to overpower the injuries themselves. Rain once again became limp, but now due to unconsciousness. His heart rate was still dangerously low, but it had returned. Better than his condition only moments before.

(Meanwhile...)

"Hmph." With a wave of his hand, the door itself clicked and swung open. Which, advertently, would probably hit Owle square in the face.

"It's open. I managed to unlock it years ago. I still can't leave though, so stop wracking your insignificant mind over the matter. Now, come in or stop wasting my time."

All this was said and done without once taking his eyes off of his book. Though once all subconscious thought had died away to complete silence, he would look up. Up at the ceiling. "Hmm... if I'm lucky, he finally died. But I expect that there would be more to it than this. Bah." And back to the book the old man returned.

"Well. I could use my dice and summon a dragon. But it may scare the little one. I may be able to transform him too. But that would take a while."

Asherah's eyes met with Ryugi's, she could tell he wasn't your typical night in shining armor. In fact, she could have guessed what he was. Too many years has she walked the world to not have run into them.

"Boat then?"
Ryugi nodded at the young woman's words.

I believe a boat would be the best choice at this point. Course, where are we going to find a boat for rent at this time?

"I... I think I'm going to be sick."

"... me too. God, someone get me the slop bucket."

"In all my time doing what I do to cows, I've seen some twisted things. But that... that's just sick."

"You call that steak?!"

Bessy Bovine's Quality Steakhouse had no more customers - save for a single man who had apparently taken the local challenge a few steaks too far.

"The boy damn near ate the whole cow."

"s**t. Probably would have eaten the poor thing alive if he had the chance, bones and all."

Three cooks, four waitresses, a hostess, and a busboy stood, staring slightly fearfully, at the young man who was finishing off the last piece of steak on his plate. There were eleven more in front of him, and he had only been inside the restaurant for fifteen minutes.

"That means it's free, right? Finish the house steak in under an hour, get it for free." The big smile across his face seemed to say the rest.

"Uwagf!"

"... and never come back here again!"

Twin katana clattered after the man, one sliding right through his green hair into the clasp on his back, the other into his relaxed, outstretched left hand. He kicked into a spin which gave him enough lift to prop himself onto his right palm, feet in the air - he slid his katana into place at his right hip, pushed off his hand, and landed gracefully on his feet.

Previously fearful customers entered back into Bessy's as the man gave the sort of look that seemed to say "what?" He realized he was still wearing an adult bib with Bessy on the front, which he unceremoniously ripped off and shoved into his pocket. He looked at his copy of the receipt before clutching it tightly in his wrist and laughing as he walked off.

There was a frown drawn on it.

Have a horrible day, and never come back. b*****d.

It was a bill for eleven House Special Steaks, for a grand total of zero - signed for by a man named Rage.

(In Rain's mind)

For a moment, the girl and snake had just stood there, glazed looks in their eyes as though they were contemplating something far off. This ended the minute the door swung into Owle's face.

"Ah!" Owle shouted, falling straight onto her bum and sprawling out onto her back. For a moment, little sparrows spun around her head, then disappeared.

"Jeez..." Owle groaned, displeased, getting up. "Excuse me if I want to be a little cautious when I'm mucking around in a friend's mind. Don't want to mess with barriers he might have there for a reason, you know?"

She entered the room, and closed the door behind her, facing the old man. "He's still alive. Just asleep. For now, anyway." The last part said quieter, and with a bit of worry. Owle found it difficult to conceal her thoughts when she was purely a projection made by the power of her thoughts.

"Who are you? Why are you here? Why can't you leave, and what happens if you could?"

The snake curled up beside her, slithering up her arm, its black voids for eyes regarding the man as Owle made no attempts at all to conceal the questions on her mind.

I purr vibrated from her body as the lady pet her ears. It wasn't often that anyone touched her, let alone payed attention to her. Gently touching the lady's hand with both of hers, she nuzzled them and giggled.

"I have voices inside of my head that aren't mine, then again, I'm not your run of the mill girl." Stopping her from petting her any further, Cheshire held her hand. Grinning.

"I'll help you find it Bunny."
Madison smiled in innocently, She honestly thought the cat was the sweetest thing ever. But naturally, the rabbit was slightly cautious just do to the grin. Too many bad experiences with people, way too many. With the cat holding onto her hand she began to walk in a rather determined motion, smiling the entire way.

"If I was a voice, where would I hide?" She turned and asked the small kitten in curiosity. If she could hear voices, maybe she knew where they hung out.

"I'd hide in someone's ear... Or thoughts..."

Cheshire walked on her tip toes only, that's just how she walked. It was quiet, made for light steps and such. Perfect for sneaking up on people. Giggling as she held onto Madison's hand, her eyes slithered up to the moon that was beginning to appear in the sky. How lovely it was.

"Purrhaps it's behind your ears, I find stuff there all the time."

Reaching behind her right hear, she scratched a bit then pulled out a little flower, and looked at it.

"See?"
PostPosted: Sun Jul 22, 2007 4:51 pm

Pulling a simple magic trick as was a great was to get Madison to be distracted and well...amazed. She turned and let go of the girl's paw, she then crouched down to look at the flower even more closely in awe. She thought it was the best thing ever.

The rabbit poked the flower lightly and giggled. With her bright eyes she looked up at the cat curiously.

"How did you do that?"

Squeezing the flower lightly between her fingers, she grinned and tilted her head. The Daisy began to shake a bit before it multiplied into a bouquet, ribbon included.

"It just happens when you're a Cheshire cat."

Handing the bouquet to Madison, she giggled and bobbled her head about cutely.

"Do you want me to do a special trick? Name it Bunny..." Her grin grew bigger. "I can do it... All by myself.."
PostPosted: Sun Jul 22, 2007 5:35 pm

Madison almost fell over as the bouquet of ribbons appeared, she then quickly scuttled back up and took the ribbons happily. She had no clue what to do with them, and so she quickly tucked them away inside her jacket.

"A Cheshire? What's that?" Her head cocked over to the opposite angle that the girl had. She then cocked her head again as she asked her for a trick suggestion.

"What a trick?" Oh boy, this rabbit was really not too bright.

Just as Rage was making his way merrily down the street, two blue-hairs were far removed from the situation.

Showing an unnatural knack for balance as he cruised along on his motorcycle at all of half, maybe even three quarters of a mile per hour, depending on how quickly Owle was moving, he kept his wits about him as he escorted the young woman to her destination.

"So... if it's not too presumptuous of me, where is it that we're headed?" He tried to match the urgency of Owle's voice from before, but it was hopeless; he had no idea what was going on, and he got the feeling that even when he did he wouldn't be able to evoke too much of a reaction.

He jumped to his feet on the bike, one foot on the throttle to keep it steady. No sign. Maybe he was just imagining things... even so, the bike did not waver.

It was a painful thing to behold, the ways Rains body was at its worst and the man still clung to life. For what? The Reaper wondered for a moment, what motivated a man to cling to this life with the sort of strength that puts most gods to shame? Whatever it was, he admired it. And if by some off chance things turned for the worst and Rain's inspiring efforts were met with failure, Maximos would at least assure that he enjoyed a good after-life.

Once peace returned to the room, Maximos was already lost. It went without saying that none of the doctors or nurses would be asking him to leave. He had reached beneath himself, dipping into the shadow of the chair on which he sat. The dark gray veil thickened, as if his touch transformed it into thick tar. His hand vanished into the black until about the wrist and he fished about for a moment then pulled out a book! A few beads of black rolled off its surface dripping into the shadow, as the black faded and it returned to its natural faded gray pigment. And Maximos, simply cracked open the book, letting the black ribbon attached to its spine drape over its cover as he read. Involved in a book, the world would pass him by.

(Outside Rain)

Half the doctors and nurses would begin to panic. No one in that room would have ever seen anything like what just happened to Rain, and have no idea what to make of it. The rest would begin to treat him as best as they were able. They pumped him full of morphine, and began to stitch up his wounds. They had restrained him at first, but he was still by this point, so they only left a few on.

They contemplated doing surgery, but couldn't find anything wrong with him, except lots of internal bleeding. But after draining the excess blood intravenously, it appeared that his bleeding had healed itself on its own. All in all, Rain would not need much more than stitches, casts, and a few blood transfusions, despite what his body went through.

It would be less than an hour since his admittance into the ER, and he was already being moved to recovery for observations. His heart rate had more or less returned to normal, and the doctors couldn't find a reason to justify putting him into their already crowded critical care ward.

(Inside Rain)

"Ha! 'Friend'? Well, that explains who you are, then." said the man, smiling without even looking up at Owle. "Has anyone ever told you that you ask too many questions?"

He sighed and closed his book finally, keeping it resting on his robed lap. He gestured over to the side with one hand, towards a chair that may or may not have been there before. "Please, have a seat. After all, you're a guest in my... home". The word 'home' was spoken forcably just then, as if out of disgust. "Sit down, relax a spell. Then, I will tell you about my idiot son, and why I'm trapped here."

(Down one of Latent's streets, next to a motorcycle)

"...what?" Owle asked, some seconds after Slash had asked his question. She seemed less urgent now, and more...dazed...distracted. "Oh. The hospital. Like I said."

A few moments passed in silence, as they walked along, but before Slash could ask again, she volunteered more information.

"A friend of mine thought he was dying, and reached out to me. But another friend found him, and brought him here. It seemed silly to turn around even knowing he's alright..."

And then the glazed look came to her eyes again.

Some time later, they would walk through the doors of the hospital, Owle erringly moving towards Rain's room. 'Erringly' because she occasionally bumped into walls, or peeked into rooms that obviously had nothing to do with Rain, trying to look for a way to go through them. It was amazing none of the doctors and nurses tried to throw her out; perhaps they did, and Owle didn't notice them. She acted much like a sleepwalker, paying only half a mind to where she was going...

Even though her senses told her precisely where Rain was, she didn't know anything about how to get there through the walls and corridors in between her and him.

(Inside Rain's mind, in the vicinity of a [hopefully] fluffy armchair)

"No - well, yes, actually, but only my sister Flare," Owle answered, nonplussed. She looked suspiciously at the chair, remembering a certain couch at the Firebrand, which she'd once used against intruders in her own mindscape...

But the thought of information surpassed the danger inherent in comfortable chairs, and Owle sat down.

"Thank you, I'm sorry to intrude, I just...well." Owle shook her head. "Nevermind." She didn't really have a good excuse, beyond curiousity, if she was going to be honest.

(Inside Rain's Mind)

"Mmm, very good. So, what was your first question? Ah, yes, my identiy." he said, fidgeting in his rocking chair a bit to become a bit more comfortable.

"Well, my name is of little consequence to you, because knowing names gives one power over them. I am a prophet, of sorts. To a long dormant diety. I died about 50 years ago, at the hands of some do-gooder adventurers. After I, as a ghost, completed my vengeance against them, I went and planted a seed of darkness within a mortal vessel. Instead of blossoming though, it grew and wilted into the miserable pile of worthless excrement that is your 'friend'. In all my years of mastering the dark arts, I would have thought I could manage something slightly more competant than... than... that." Insert sneer and a gesture up towards the ceiling. Though it wasn't exactly a ceiling, as a boundry or barrier. Mental stuff.

"Now, why am I here. Well, part of the whole reason of planting a seed to grow into an heir of my power was so I could be reborn. That still happened, back in Umbra Firth, where Rain still resided. It took him over twenty years of suffering, but something had finally caused him to lose his will to live. The moment he gave in to despair, I took over, and began to lay seige on your world in the name of darkness." He paused and sighed, rubbing his forehead and temple with his right hand.

"And then his friends had to step in and stop me. Well, they couldn't stop me exactly, but managed to hold my power at bay long enough for Rain's daughter, of all people, to seal me away. Its why Rain can't use any magic, because it was all sealed away here with me. She was only seven at the time, too. Competancy must skip a generation, it seems. This was little more than a barrier at first, but I was able to retain my magic within this place, and able to shape it as I see fit. But I can't leave, because I too am made of magic, which doesn't exist out of this room. At least, while that loser is still alive."

He turned to look to the side, outside of some illusionary window. After a few moments of silence, he turned back to Owle. "That should answer your third question. As for your final one, I can't leave until Rain dies. Thanks to his lust for more power, he's made that more likely to happen sooner than later. Killing his body is the only thing he's done right, it seems. Once I'm free, I can be free to possess the body of the next of kin. My precious granddaughter. With someone with more potential in her finger than Rain's whole body, I can conquer this world in the name of my dark lord."

He rested his cheek against one hand, and smiled. It was a confident smile. "Rain doesn't know I'm still here, though. He thinks I was destroyed. So I'd rather you keep this a secret for now. Which brings me to a question I have for you, my dear 'friend'. What happens to a nosey little girl when her psychic embodiment is lured into a magical prison, locked inside with an evil wizard who hasn't had the joy of taking a life in many, many years?" There was a wave of his left hand, followed shortly by a click of a door locking.
