Helix smiled softly. He felt a funny feeling of happiness that his brother was happy. It was rare to see Lan smile like that. A smirk crossed his face, and he leaned in close.
"So...is she your girlfriend?"

Helix looked over his shoulder at Lan. He had been a little mean, but Lan had to learn not to take things so personally. He got up, and walked around Lan so he was in front of him. "Hey, you shouldn't take verything I say so personally."

Helix felt his eye twitch. He felt his notoriously short temper start to snap. He slammed his open hand against the support pillar of the porch. Gritting his teeth, he breathed for a moment, trying to regain his calm.
"I'm sorry," he said calmly, but through gritted teeth. "I didn't think you'd get so upset."

Helix relaxed finally, and hugged Lan. He felt awful for scaring him. He petted Lan, and sighed. "It's okay, Lan. I'm the one who should be sorry."

Helix stared off into space, thinking about all the times he'd gotten Lan hurt or in trouble because of his temper.
Would it be better if I...wasn't around? he wondered. Lan just wants to see Mom and Dad again...but I don't. I want to get far away from them. Maybe...maybe I should help him find them...then he'd have someone there...when I leave...

Helix blinked, and looked up at Alex. "But...what I think is right will hurt people..." Helix said quietly. "And I don't always like hurting people. Especially Lan..." Helix looked more tired than ever before.
