"She's doing great so far. Toby told me it used to be an all-numbers system. I can't imagine. It's so much more intuitive now." He had, of course left his mp3 player at home. "So how far can you run?" 'Run.'

"So you use something like what we do at the library to locate books?" Luca guessed. "I'm glad she's doing well."
He paused at the question. How far could he run? He wasn't sure. "I'm out of practice," he admitted.

Lori thought a moment, then gave a thoughtful frown and nodded.
"Yeah, actually. Almost exactly." He grinned over at Luca. "Oh? Well tell me before you start hurting. You don't have to impress me." He had been the same lithe sort of elfin form in his youth, just a bit broader. It had taken a lot of work to gain the muscle he had now, but luckily it was pretty easy to keep once it was there. Back home he might have been a warrior or something, but they didn't do much but sit around and wait for wars that never came.

"I can handle it," Luca promised, giving Lori a smile. "But I'll let you know." He might have been out of practice, but forest elves were made to run. "We should do something when we get home,." he added. He'd come to spend time with Lori, after all.

"Sure, whatever you like," Lori said with a nod. "Any ideas?" They could watch a movie....take a shower... no, no, no. Maybe they could go out instead? Maybe they should head back and just go off on some adventure in the car.

Plenty. Several of them involved a bedroom, though, and Lori didn't seem interested in that stuff. Not yet, anyway. "We could watch a movie," he suggested instead. "Or whatever you'd like to do."

"Sure, I'm good for a movie," Lori nodded, "I'll need a shower too, though. I'm not one of those glamorous fae." He laughed and Rosie looked up at him for a moment, then turned back to their path. She had a fenced yard, but exploring the neighborhood was much more interesting.
"Hey, does your family live around here too? What do you do for the holidays?" Halloween had been fun if a bit frustrating. He hadn't thought himself one for roleplay, but Luca did strange and amazing things to him.

"The kind that stay pretty all the time?" No sweat, no grime, those fae were prissy. His eyes went over Lori as they jogged. "They don't, they were relocated elsewhere," Luca admitted. "Human holidays are a bit beyond them, really, so I spend them alone." Usually with a large book plopped open in his lap.

Huh? So what made--
"What made you stay here, then?" Lori asked. Generally families went together. They'd relocated entire clans before, always all together. "Well, anyway. My family doesn't really do them either. The Solstice and stuff like that, but they don't expect me there. Do you want to do the holidays together? That same group of friends, we all spend it together. A lot of them, of us, don't really have families, or at least not families who celebrate Christmas." Lori was no Christian, but he loved the holiday itself.

"I wanted to learn more about this place," Luca gave him a smile. "Endless curiosity. They hated it, they couldn't adjust. I got a job where I could be around people and read, and they hopped on the soonest plane back home." He paused, and after a moment, shot Lori a grateful smile.
"I'd like that," he said. "What would you like for Christmas, then?"

Lori laughed. Of course. That happened all the time. Hopefully his parents were safe and happy. They must be, or Luca wouldn't be discussing them so casually.
"Oh, uh. I don't know. Books?" That sort of went without saying, but he had so many already that sometimes people panicked over finding one he didn't have. A smile stretched across his face then. "You." He would be more than happy to overwrite his previous Christmases with The Douchebag.
"Thanksgiving's great too, if you don't mind food comas. I myself can't cook worth a damn."

Books? Well. Maybe he could find another rare magical one? He didn't think he'd ever be able to find a full set, like he had when he first met Lori. But maybe one. "I can get you a book," he said.
"Me?" he echoed. Did Lori mean what he thought he meant?

Luca's expression softened. Well, that hadn't been quite what he'd been expecting. "I'd love to spend the holidays with you," he said. "I look forward to them. When is Thanksgiving?"

"I think it's the 26th this year? Whatever the fourth Thursday is in November," Lori said with a nod, "At Toby's. He's a beast, and now that he has Maia I'm sure it'll be... blissfully overwhelming." He laughed slightly.
"You think you can do a quick sprint? I'll race ya to that speed limit sign." He pointed into the distance.
