Eight bux for a book? That's a bit (Read: very) expensive. Even though I am looking to collect a Death Korps army, eh...I'll wait this one out.

Such is Forge World, pal.

Alright. For a tourney this fall, I'm going to be playing Heretic (Codex) Guard allied to Chaos Daemons. My partner is currently planning on using Bloodcrushers and Soulgrinders, and I'm contemplating on what exactly I should load into my force. I'm planning on taking at least 2 platoons with 2-3 squads in each and I'll give the HQ squads the Drop Troop doctrine so that they can serve as anti-tank/quick response forces with their special weapons.

Any suggestions?

CONSCRIPTS!
Sorry about that, I had a rough time with over three hundred conscripts today... 300 weak men vs twelve Gray Knight termies with two Grand Masters.... not fun.
I think you'll need more than a few troops with heavy weapons, I'd take a Leman Russ.
Wait, cant you take a Gray Knight squad, Inquisitor or Daemon host?

My current plan is to have at least 6-8 scoring units (4-6 of them packing special and heavy, 2 of them packing 4 specials) and then my command platoon.

Are you Tau? Form firing lines and let them come to you.

Have an Elite or another choices that is particularly good at killing other elites (Crisis Suits would be a good choice if you're Tau) stay behind the main lines to deal with anyone deep striking.

@ Jason

300 conscripts versus a twelve man Grey Knight Terminator Squad and two Grand Masters? Why were you so low on units?

PS- Use Holocaust and Incinerators.

Alternatively, you can get a Grey Knight Land Raider Crusader and fire until you reach them, then attempt a tank shock. 14 all around armor means you're pretty well protected.

@ Caleidah

If your friend is playing Khorne than it would be fairly obvious to take anything that can shoot and shoot well. Tau if you can, Guardsman if you can't. Or just more Chaos Space Marines.

Oh, in that case sake some Ogyrn to bash them up. Anything else I can think of isn't too fantastic in melee, Storm Troopers aren't more shooting oriented. You could try to use a Sanctioned Psyker on them?

@Julian: For your IG v Eldar, I suggest lots of Autocannons and Grenade Launchers. That way you can kill their stuff and have a decent amount of anti-tank/Wraith. Hellhounds are infinitely useful, too. Them Eldar burn up REEEEEL good.

Really grenade launchers? Crap I just have a bunch of Meltas >> Also, yes Hellhounds = Greatness, for 3 games we played when I brought in my hellhound he killed it in the 2nd turn with incredibly lucky shots. So he finally didn't attack it one game and I wiped out his entire squad of Scorpions in one blast >> It didn't get to attack again....

That Str4 Frag Blast has the chance of tearing some s**t up, especially if said s**t is running in toward combat.

Yeah drop the meltas they hav too short of a range to really do you any good with tank killing because once your in the 12 inch range what the hell does he care about his tank? Cause you have a whole helping of assualt troops in your face. and against most assualt units the melta's 1 shot isn't very impressive... Well except for the one guy who got killed but not to any of the other troops.

But for the assualt troops you might have some luck with a counter attack squad. either trick out your command squad with power weapons or a squad of ogryns. I usually have a power fist and force weapon waiting in the wings to crack an assualt.

Hmm...He hasn't really spent points on any vehicles, he does however have a Wraithlord and a crap ton of those little jet bikes. Also, he has 3 of the phoenix lords, The Scorpion one (Karandras?) the reaper one (Mogun Ra?) and the howling banshee one. Those are who the Meltas are really for, taking down those fething phoenix lords >>
