The FF8 Gunblade is actually a modernized version of a weapon used in WWI. Obviously, it never got popular, but it looked damn cool. Oh, yeah, copyright... I doubt they have it copyrighted, if they even can, but if they do, then there's nothing to keep Gaia from just calling it a "WWI Revolver Sword" or something.
