Oh god. 1:05 to 1:09 was the best thing ever.
Anyway, it seems like you did a phantom slash ( KB has the same ability, go you! ) and... his arms up and down movement got in the way of it. Instead of being super gay about it and shrugging off all the damage, he took a credible amount to the hand, slowed down, and basically fumbled forwards to try and throw a knee.
It's my opinion that at this point is that he's using the dumb luck thing to justify
not instantly dying from her attack and prolong the fight. I'd personally roll with it and enjoy the up close and personal aspects of fighting, but then again that's just me. If you wanted to you could probably just argue that the width of the blade is more than the guards on the back of his hand, which results in unprotected portions of the hand being cut and the rest of his body around the area being completely demolished.
Eh.
I don't have so much of a problem with dumb luck as I do with him just trying to look for a way to minimize the damage as much as possible through well, bullshit. But I suppose that's me being a little harsh.
A big concern I do have is just as you stated though. I don't want to set precedent for my ability in a way I never intended for it to work. Let's just play with the idea that his wrist guard was enough to stop the portion of the blade that did hit him. What about the rest of it? I mean sure, I could roll with it and he wouldn't die because of his character induced stupidity, but then I'd have to let everybody be able to stop the entire attack by sacrificing the tip of their pinky.
So that's kind of why it matters where the blade is to on his body. I made sure to aim some place where taking the attack shouldn't be instantly fatal. Now since I guess he's duck walking and crouched so his neck or something is in the range of the rest of the attack, would I be DQed because he did something really dumb or must I simply suffer a nerf because he of a bad decision he made after the fact?
