This is not the Chaos space marine thread, so take all Alpha Legion talk there, smart-a** reading up or not. And yes, I have read that overrated novel Legion, so I know all about those fancy secrets.

Hey man, i wasn't trying to be smart a**, i just figured i would post it. And technically if they are still part of the Imperium, then this is the correct thread. And i didnt read Legion, so i would not have gotten my info from there.
Alpha Legion is part of the Chaos codex, so they go there, NOT here.

Sorry, to bother you all, but I'd like to ask some advice if you're willing to help me. I am currently looking to make additions to my army. My current army (Space Marine) consists of a Land Raider Crusader, a Commander, a jet squad, two tactical squads, and a heavy weapons squad. My main focus is just blowing things up, but also large numbers. I know I should probably get another tactical squad or two, but I would like to ask advice on if there's anything else I should add to make me at least a little bit of a threat to my opponent.

Your army seems like a pretty good start, but at this point it's really up to you what to add. If I where you I'd think about how I plan to attack the enemy.

If you want to stay mobile, give the tactical squads rhinos or razorbacks, maybe add some bikes or landspeeders.

If you want to stay back and shoot add another devastator squad, a Predator, Dreadnought, or maybe just some troops choices.

If you want to keep balanced, just add some of both of the choices.

And by the way, if you need help with your Marines just ask for it again anytime, that's what this thread is for. 3nodding Don't be afraid to poke around the Games Workshop site for tips either~

The savest bet in that kind of army is to have more tactical squads
and devastator squads then vehicles.
Land Raider Crusader is a good vehicle, but for a tank that only fires 24" and
has a highest points cost in the army is not worth taking it in a all-shooty-army.
Maybe get a basic Land Raider or a Devastator Squad to replace it.
That way you´ll have more fire power for longer range and/or more space
marines to take the bullet.

Predator is also a good choice to take, dreadnought even better.
Nothing annoys your oppoment more then a dreggy that just doesn´t die.

Another Assault squad, a command squad or maybe an chaplain to boost
squads fighting spirit or a librarian to mess things up would also be a good
choice to take.
An army that only rely on strength of long range, will lack in strength of close combat. (Tau, Tyranids, Imperial Guard for example.)

I wouldn't call Nids weak in close combat, not when comparing them to Tau and Imperial Guard.

I do agree on fielding more tactical squads, maybe the odd scout squad with sniper rifles for picking off things. Though a Crusader still has its uses, shove in a squad of assault terminators and assorted commander then you've got an excellent assault transport that can assault on the way out.

I was meaning to use the nids as an example of an off-balanced army,
Tyranids = Good Close Combat, Weak Long Range
Tau = Good Long Range, Weak Close Combat
IG´s = Rely´s too much on tanks

Should have been more specific on that part... sweatdrop

Anyone ever tried giving a Scout Sergeant a powerfist? I was thinking of tossing one in there and was wondering if anyone had tried it before.

it sounds like it might be interesting

I've never seen someone try at surprise fisting, so I'd say start a trend and go for it.

I have power swords on my sergeants and they have proven quite useful.
A fist might be a good idea, but that actually means you need to get close
enought to really use it. gonk

I wanted to give him a shotgun and powerfist, but sadly that would only be a visual option. The power fist replaces the shotgun.

NJ6: you have a good start. if you like blowing things up then perhaps a whirl wind or vindicator would be a good thing to go with. I also would recommend scouts. A sniper squad with a missile launcher can be very very handy. I would also recommend you invest in a techmarine. he and his servitors can be a very nice shooty or punchy unit.

Why not? Is it some fagged up Dark Angels rule that prevents you from using it like that?

Fist is a one-handed weapon, shotgun is two-handed. Models can have two one-handed weapons or one two-handed and one one-handed weapon. I see no problem.

In my codex I saw that for terminator command squads it listed that you can only have terminators with guns. So is it possible to have a close combat terminator command squad?

As for the power fist I say go for it, I've never seen one like that before, it would be quite interesting since they can move ahead of normal deployment and move through cover. Probably be more likely to get close to a squad than a normal marine squad, besides the fact that they have less armor...
