I heard a rumour awhile back about a possible plastic valkeryie/vulture kit, and their inclusion in the new guard codex. Anything new on that recently?

The possiblities from having support aircraft in a bog standard guard army would be incredible.

A CAD drawing of the Valkyrie floats around on the internet. It will be the transport option for the new plastic Kasrkin with shotguns.

Two downers though: the Valkyrie will count as a skimmer in regular games of 40k and wont be released until Summer 2009 to coincide with Planet Strike crying

PLASTIC STORMIES!?

*dies*

I suppose I can deal with them being fast skimmers, especially if they get decent weapon options. And taking them as tranports is wonderful, as it will leave slots open for tanks and such.

Valkyries come with two door-mounted heavy bolters and a fuselage mounted multi-laser. The ML can be upgraded to a lascannon and the wing mounts can either take rocket pods, Hellstrike missiles or fuel tanks.

Knowing GW they will most likely tweak the current load out and give it more weapons to make it better than the FW version.

Does anybody actually use conscripts?

I've never seen them before and it would be interesting to wipe out a good two hundred men with ease.

What are the models that would be used for them, just normal guardsmen?

Yeah, I think they're just guardsman with one less skill point in weapons and ballistics. And they're cheaper.

I prefer having the troops (foot sloggers) plastic so I can customize them how I wish, I want to make my own command squad not pay 30$ for a single guy, gimme the box I'll make'em myself.
But a plastic Valkrie That's going to take a lot of time. GW needs to figure out what should be plastic and what shouldn't.
oh and nobody uses concripts because the models cost so much, most would rather use them as standard troops because they are worth more that way.

Why? As much as I love metal (Warmachine fan here) it's damn expensive to have solid pewter armies, guard especially. It would be great to see more tallarn, Steel Legion, and stuff like that (what are those snow guys?) but buying 100+ guys a blister at a time kills your wallet. What if the tanks were all solid?

Metal also makes conversions difficult, and since GW requires you to convrt things yourself if you want non-standard options, things get difficult. Most head/hand swaps are easy enough, but beyond that metal can be difficult to work with.

Metal creates self regulation.

Having models that are more expensive make it that much more unique, since not everybody will be playing it. That's why I got into Grey Knights. I'm pretty sure there would be 700% more Grey Knight players if instead of 35$ for 5 they were 15.00$ for 5.

Alternatively, Steel Legion players probably enjoy that they have unique models. I know I would if I played them, and I'd get pretty PO'd if they made new plastic miniatures so that everyone started buying them.

Fixed, as remember this IS GW we're talking about here.

And as long as plastic's cheaper for GW to make, they're going to stick with it. It's a business first and a hobby second, so if they can save money with plastic bits instead of metal, they will. Besides, Metal Guard armies would be a pain to transport. Think, for one moment, an army of potentially hundreds of metal models.

Plastic molds are actually incredibly more expensive to make than pewter molds, which is why most gaming systems use pewter or lead.

And, really, I'm happy for plastic Storm Troopers. It's more customizability, and storm troopers nowadays cost an insane $45 a squad, with minimal options.

The difference there is the cost, DarkElf. Plastic molds cost a hell of a lot more to make than pewter molds, but it then costs a whole lot less to produce a set of plastic models than a set of pewter models.

CAD stands for Computer-Aided Design and this is the Valkyrie design in question:

I thought CAD was some website or something that was related.

Well, at least it's Cadian Kasrkins. I need to hurry up and get my metal classic Storm Troopers before these neophytes usurp the proverbial throne.

A few notes.

Firstly, CAD is often used for architecture and engineering design, but can be used as well for other things. Some programs allow 3D representation. And seeing as that they have to make the models from hand anyway, I don't see why they don't just use something like 3Ds Max.

I know I'd be pissed if GW started making plastic Death Korps, since my semi-rare army would now become fairly common, as many people would want them.

And personally, juxtaposed to what I just said about the Krieg guardsmen, I'd absolutely love to see some plastic Valkryies. I may have a FW one already, but the prospect of making them commonplace is actually exciting for me. I'd love for aircraft to start seeing their way more into normal games of 40K.

Also, I just played my first match of 5th edition the other day, and I've got to say, vehicles are now indestructable. Also, I now love Heavy Mortars.
