I got a question and it is annoying me as I try and figure out what it says in the Codex.
My brother is wanting to start up an IG army and so I was reading up on the rules so I can help him. He's liked them from the beginning and likes them more since DoW.
So I was reading about how the Heavy Weapons teams were supposed to work and it just seems to be running circles around my head. I'm going to try and explain how I think they work in the organization, but if I am wrong, an explanation would be greatly appreciated.

To use any Heavy Weapons Teams, you take a Junior Officer and staff as a Heavy Support option. Then additional guardsmen are taken to form weapons teams of three models. You can take up to two of each type, meaning 6 groups of 3 models. All this counts as 1 Heavy Support option, though they all act in independent units of 3 models and the Officer's.

Is this right or am I not reading something right?

Edit: Is this how all the infantry aspects of their army work?

Uh, I think you're mighty confused.

A heavy weapons -squad- is 6 guardsmen. These 6 guardsmen are in 3 teams, each team has a heavy weapon. A -platoon- has a junior officer's command squad and a certain number of squads, and a -platoon- takes up a force organization slot.

I do not think that I could ever play an Imp Guard army. There are to many rules, and their units have a lot of organizational things that I would never be able to wrap my head around XP.

It's not half so complicated as it looks. What it basically means is you have a bunch of required command squads and get more units per organization chart slot.

Huh, that is actually kind of cool. However I don't think I will be buying another army for quite some time XP.

I remember when my friend used to play his IG...he always wiped the floor with me. Curse his tank company...

Tank Companies wipe the floor with anything that isn't prepared to face them. Plain and simple.

So you can take them as a single choice, or as a platoon?
Ex: I can take 3 Heavy Weapons Squads as 3 HS choices or a Platoon of all 6 types and two Leman Russ' as 3 HS choices.
Ex2: I can take 6 squads of guardsman as 6 Troop choices, or a Platoon of 5 as 1 Troop choice.

Ex2: I can take 6 squads of guardsman as 6 Troop choices, or a Platoon of 5 as 1 Troop choice.
Each heavy weapon squad is made up of six men and three heavy weapons. A mortar squad would have three mortars, but an anti-tank squad could have a lascannon and two missile launchers.

0-5 heavy weapon squads can only be fielded as part of the command platoon (your HQ choice) or 1-3 heavy weapon squads as part of a heavy weapons platoon led by a command squad with a junior officer (a heavy support choice).

Example: You have a command squad with a heroic senior officer and four guardsmen. Attached to this command squad is an anti-tank squad, a fire support squad, two mortar squads and a special weapons squad. This will count as ONE HQ choice.

A single troops choice is made up of one command squad led by a junior officer and between 2 and 5 infantry squads.

Please read the codex thoroughly! 3nodding

I have it right in front of me and I've read it over, and I am trying to understand it. I think I get more of it though.

So no matter what, infantry have to be lead in platoons, correct?

Yes, ignoring doctrines for a moment infantry must be fielded in infantry platoons for the most part. For every infantry platoon that you field you can field one armoured fist squad and conscript platoon.

And its bloody hilarious to see the reaction from people when you fully pimp out the Platoon and its "friends." 45 men in the platoon, 10 men and a Chimera, and then another 50 Conscripts.

An interesting thing was put forward by a friend the other day. With the new cover save from shooting, Guard allied armies may have found a new ability, as well as Orks. The Grot/Conscript walls. Shooting through them confers a 4+ cover save, so...yeah...^-^
