Arakimos Durgan Yep, it pays the bills.
@arakimos: I wouldn't be too sure about going without a firewall... there are enough remote exploits out there and more every day that you could just get scanned and end up on a botnet. The internets are scurry. Lol, I've been firewall'less for how many years now? I believe it's safe to say that I know what I'm doing... Also, there isn't anything in the 'verse that can't be fixed on a computer by a full hard drive wipe. razz Well... software-wise, that is. That's a horrible game plan...

No it's not... because it works, and it's effective, and it keeps me from taking extreme risks on my computer. also, I hate firewalls, and anything having to do with them, and thus I will not have one... talk2hand I don't feel like configuring ports, or forwarding ports, or checking the DPS protocol or any of that s**t... so forget it... If it's not broke, just be careful with it... you don't have to cover your vases in cotton, just keep them out o' reach o' teh children, ya get what I'm sayin'? Oh, and by the way, "You're taking an action! I'm sorry, but your firewall programming prohibits that action unless you click this button a total of fifteen times in a row. Also, your cursor has moved! Would you like to validate that move? Your cursor could be moving at the behest of an interweb hacker!"

If you have a non-retarded firewall, you don't get messages like that.

I admit port forwwarding is a PITA. Not a lot of programs need it. Once it works, you're set, and it's pretty easy to find out online what you need. Software firewalls are way lame.
I've just seen and had to fix enough computers (XP SP2 included) infected just from being online to be paranoid about ending up exploited.

Dark Nyte Like Durgan said, I've seen too many bad things happen to not keep myself protected. Well, honestly, I've never had anything important enough on my computer that I'd have to protect it at all.... I mean, I've no problem with rebooting the entire system, because nothing's pre-installed... I remember when mother had to send her's back to the company because it broke or something. that's lame... I will never do that... but really, anything I need for a reboot, I can just get online, or from the CD's I've kept
