((kimie: Risth-- shall we just say that Nita and Kikue have copies of the duplex list and stuff? risth: Hmm of the list yeah sure, you want to just use Kikue's default list of stuff for the survery? kimie: that's what I was thinking, since it would be going into her database :3 risth: Okay, you can just use it from her journal post ( the list of what she puts in the files ) and say she gave you an English-version on a piece of paper and use it as the survey base biggrin

Ever since finding out Amaya had been asked out to the upcoming Halloween party, Gaius had been thinking. This event sounded pretty big, and from what he remembered of parties back in college, or at least the couple he was dragged to, it was normal to go with a date. The problem was, with all the dates his friends had set up for him in the past, he'd never actually had the problem of asking a girl out himself.
The morning found him freshly showered, dressed in a freshly laundered shirt, though his pants were less than fresh, bearing a couple days of dirt. Bouncing with nerves, Gaius made his way to Nita's duplex, hauling behind him the product of his recent labors, up the stairs, and stopped briefly at the door to run a hand futily through his messy hair.
His hand hovered above the door before he finally got up the nerve and knocked.

Nita had been hard at work, hand-writing out surveys and making notes of what she remembered from her encounters with various people. Her lists were far from complete, but she was making progress and thoroughly enjoying the challenge. She had just been thinking of taking a snack-break when someone knocked on the door.
"Just a minute!" she called cheerfully, shuffling her papers together and shutting her notebook. Figuring it might be Kikue back for more planning, Nita practically bounced to the door and flung it open.
"... Gaius?" Nita asked, surprised. "Hey! Um... Come in, I guess."

"Ah! N-Nita!" Gaius smiled, despite his suddenly pounding heart. "L-looks like I remembered your duplex number this time, huh? Heh heh, ah..." He scratched at the hair rubbing against his collar and glanced over the shorter girl's shoulder inside. she looked to have been expecting someone, from her surprise. Gaius' expression grew worried. "I'm not interrupting anything, am I?"

Nita glanced back to the papers covering her bed, in spite of her quick cleaning effort. She had a feeling Gaius would be interested in hearing about Kikue's and her 'project.'
"Nope, I was just taking a break. Do you want a snack or something?" she asked, moving away from the door. Barely noticing his slight nervousness, Nita headed towards the kitchenette area of her duplex and started poking around in the fridge. "I've got some fruit, since you're probably not terribly interested in bamboo." She grinned and waved to indicate that Gaius could take a seat wherever.

"A snack would be nice!" Gaius said, stepping inside behind her. It seemed the polite thing to say, even if his stomach was full of butterflies at the moment. "Oh, wait!" He stopped in the doorway and turned around. How could he have forgotten? "I, uh, have something for you! Since you were interested in those chairs I was making..." Gaius pulled in a simple wooden chair, about the same size as those at the caf, but the way the seat and the back were carved looked to be shaped to accomodate a tail. "It's my proto-type... the first one I finished... Still not sure about the design, though. What do you think?" He watched her face, holding his breath as he waited for her verdict.

"Hm... Apple? Orange? Uh.. celery? I think there's a jar of peanut-butter around here, too," Nita offered, pulling out a garden salad for herself. The packet of bamboo from Kikue was long gone. She stood and stared at the chair, her eyes lighting up.
"Heyyy! That's really cool." She put the salad back down and sat, arranging her tail carefully in the space designed for it. Wiggling back and forth to get a feel for it, Nita ran a hand down the legs and along the back. It had been sanded well, and if it was kind of plain, it suited her perfectly. "And it's for me? Thank you!"
Getting up, she carried the chair over towards the small table by the fridge. "This is a good place for it," Nita announced, reclaiming her salad.

Unspeakably glad and relieved, Gaius relaxed noticeably. "You like it? I could probably try painting it and varnishing it, but I thought the natural wood would look nicer." He grinned, proudly watching her set it alongside the table. It was still a bit wobbly, but sturdy enough.
Finding himself the celery Nita had mentioned, along with the peanut butter, Gaius scooped it straight out of the jar on the stick and licked at it, leaning against the counter. While feeling calmer, he still wasn't brave enough to broach the real reason for his visit, so he looked around the room, his eyes falling upon the papers. "You keeping yourself busy too? Writing something?"

Nita dug into her salad with a plastic fork, very much enjoying the chair. Even the chairs with slats instead of a solid back were no longer comfortable; her tail was simply too thick to fit properly. "I like it the way it is," she told him.
Following his gaze across the room, she became even more animated. "Yes! Well, yes, keeping busy. My friend Kikue and I have this idea to make a database of all the islanders." Nita explained about the list by the cafeteria, and that Kikue had started the project when she arrived.
"But really it's too much for one person, so I'm helping, and we thought that at least some people would answer a survey. And of course we don't have a printer, so I've just been writing them out."

Gaius listened eagerly, waiting until Nita was finished explaining before asking, "A survey? So, like basic questions and stuff, to help us know more about the others here? That's... wow, that's great! Now I feel kinda silly sitting around playing with furniture all day," he chuckled self-consciously. "Are you planning to hand them out anytime soon?"
He bit off the celery he'd been licking and was about to double-dip, but caught himself at the last moment, reminding himself the peanut butter wasn't his. He stuck the plain celery back in his mouth, embarassed. Where were his manners?

"Exactly. We've got first and last names, and the duplex numbers, but we want ages, where people are from, how they got here, and what they're turning into, if they know. And eventually we want everyone to have a copy."
Nita ticked off the wanted information as she spoke. "Of course," she continued between quick bites of salad, "We don't have a way of continuously updating this for everyone. Really we just want to get as much of this together as we can. And I'm not sure exactly when the survey's will be out, but if you don't have anything better to do, you can just give me your information now?"

Gaius, who'd fallen into his own thoughts, was pulled back to attention by her offer. "Hm? Oh, sure! ...Uh, what did you need again? Name, age, what foods I like, what laundry detergent I use...?" he grinned.
"And, could I possibly see the list when you have a couple more? Even if it's not finished? It'd be nice to know what kind of stuff people are dealing with, and if there's any way I could, er, be of help, possibly."

Nita snickered and went over to grab a pencil and one of the blank surveys. "While your laundry detergent is very important, this is what we're looking for specifically. Name, nationality, serum, when and why you arrived, and then anything else you want to add."
She sat down again and cleared off a writing space. "Everything's going on Kikue's computer for now, but if you talked to her, she'd probably let you take a look. I mean, we still don't know how we'll get access to a printer..." Nita shrugged. "But really, if you can think of any way to help, please do. Even if it's just looking through the list for people you've met and telling us what you know about them.
"So, shoot," Nita said, pencil at the ready.

"Hm, yeah, printer would be a problem..."
He moved to sit in a chair at the table with Nita, sitting sideways to let his tail hang over the edge, and glanced at the paper. "Let's see... name's Gaius Harper, nationality... uh, I guess white? Whatever American mutt is. Caucasian? Serum... Uh, I arrived... wow, when was that?" He tapped his chin and scrunched his face in thought. "I think the beginning of September? They hired me as an architect to help design an island resort park of sorts, like a smaller Disneyland or something. Just the general hotel buildings and stuff. I was on a contract 'until the project is finished'... so I guess I'm still on the contract." Gaius snorted testily. "Some project."

Nita wrote quickly and neatly, once again very grateful that her hands were still dexterous enough to do so. She raised a brow when Gaius skipped the serum question, but didn't pry. It was a bit unusual for her, but Nita didn't have any good ideas as to what it might be... especially because of the weird appendages he had on his back.
"Gotcha," she said when she was finished. "If you think of anything else, please let me know, okay?"
