Nictor is attacking the Imperial Beaurocrat Bots!

Quote:
If you roll a 3, a bot closes down on you. You point out a nearby lightbulb that's out, and ask if that infringes on any conducts. The bot immediately goes off on Safety Violation #90234, and demands to know who the project manager is, tightening their grip. Take 2 damage, take 1 damage each roll until support power is used.

Smoke and cinders clung to Nictor's face and hands, but he was calmer now. In retrospect, pushing his face harder against Bee to try and drown the fire scent out doesn't really work if the thing you're smothering yourself with is the source of said fire smell. Nictor took a deep breath, not quite steady yet, but better. He'd love for the smell to be gone, but that might not be happening for a while yet.

Bee nudged his little grub softly, chittering comfort as he could. The sudden noise and commotion had just really set the kid off, is all. He'd be fine soon.

He's be even better if one of those damnable bots hadn't seen fit to track the two to the darkened hall they'd taken refuge in. Nictor nearly leapt out of his skin when he was a flash of silver out of the corner of his eyes, tripping backwards. Leering red eyes loomed about him threateningly and Nictor's calm immediately started to disintegrate again.

Metal gleamed ominously, reflected shadows curving up and around the unforgiving face that was leaning closer. He'd avoided being grabbed but he's have to leave his hoodie or tear a hole in the thing to get away. Nictor scrambled backwards as far as he could, hunched in and awkward ball, staring wide eyed up at the bot.

Bee seemed to be losing his patience with this ordeal rather quickly. First the scientist, now these bots. He reared up behind the bot, casting Nictor and the bot in a large shadow.

For a moment, just a split second, Nictor would swear his heart stopped. The metal had smeared into the darkness ensconcing them, changing shape from a bot to a beast. Some kind of creature assembled in a gross facsimile of his protector, come to rip his asunder.

He didn't even have time to run.

Beehemoth slammed down a second later, metal screeching over the floor as Bee tried to crush the thing. Sparks flew and angry clicking filled the air.

Nictor sat still, staring blankly. His arm flopped limply on the ground, his sleeve torn open from where the bot's hand had been ripped away. Slowly his sense started to return, an uncertain relief tingling through his body.

Nictor blinked away the image, the incident ready to be forgotten, and pushed himself to his feet.

"Bee, let's go," Nictor called, then began chittering scolding at the big buzzbeast when he was reluctant to release the sparking pile of robotics.

Nictor is attacking the Imperial Beaurocrat Bots!

Quote:
If you roll a 1, you try and flee. A pair of bots extend their motorised arms, successfully restraining you and pulling you in for questioning about unauthorised volunteer behavioural conduct. Take 3 dmg, and take 1 damage each roll until support power is used and you are freed.

At some point during their slight down the halls, Nictor had hoisted himself onto Bee's back, laying across the buzzbeast's neck. The bots certainly seemed to be everywhere, accosting anyone they could get their hands on.

Who let these things in anyway, jeez. It all seemed pretty counterproductive. Taping all your drones to the wall then interrogating them about proper bathing procedure seemed a bit unrelated to the work being doing here. Nictor couldn't deny that certain drones carried a rather unpleasant odor with them, though.

As Bee swung around another corner, bots that had seemingly been waiting for them leapt, grabbing onto anything they could get their hands on, hanging from Bee's fluff, tearing out burnt patches, carelessly digging fingers into Bee's chitten, and painfully pulling at the red tape still tangled in Bee's fluff.

Of course, the bots all start speaking at once, asking about Nictor's submissions for surveys A17 through C78 and if he's completed the mandatory on site recreation participation hours yet. Their records showed not.

Nictor groaned helplessly, yelping when one nearly grabbed onto his foot.

Bee was shaking and bucking wildly, trying to rid himself of these pests, but dang these bots were persistent. Nictor shut his eyes and held on tight, tensing each time Bee let out a screeching hum of pain.

If you roll a 2, a group of bots tie you down to a chair using red tape. They berate you with questions about policies you've never even heard of until you cry. Take 2 dmg, take 1 damage each roll until support power is used.

Forera dealt 2 damage to the Bureaubots.

As Forera was pulled away from the Tunnel Snakes unwillingly due to the bots, Forera let out a snarl and looked up, trying to kick up at their dumb robo faces and get them to leave her alone. They were all screaming at her at once, making her head get overwhelmed with the amount of questions she was being asked all at once. Her head was a spiral of words, and her own main, personal goal was to get all the words out! Foera slammed a kick into the head of a bot in front of her, snarling loudly. "GIT! AWAY FROM ME!" She screamed, struggling hard enough to give herself bruises later from her own strength working against her. This was total bullshit!

Luxara is attacking the bureaubots!

HP: 34/40
DMG: 3 +2= 5

So the plan was: outsmart the bots. Or, really, snark them to hell and back until something stuck. Sometimes compliments worked, but there was a lot more satisfaction to beating them at their own game. Once again, Luxara found herself trapped by another robot. "Y'know, there sure are a lot of you. Doesn't that breach occupancy limit or something?" she asked, trying to get it to let go.

The thing quit babbling at her, so she was prepared for...well, some sort of result. However, it started to steam, gripping her harder, before the head popped up in a fiery blaze. Even if her work suit was fire-resistant, she wasn't exactly that herself. Luxara started to panic, replicating the method she used on Forera to get the flames out.

Leeroi attacks the bureaubots!
HP: 10/20 (-1 ongoing dmg)
DMG: 5

Still struggling to break free, Leeroi attempted to at least stabilize himself as he fought the robots from his precarious semi-seated position. He had just about enough capability to steal his gun back from the bots and fire off a few one-handed rounds before he realized he couldn't reload his gun in his position.

With a harrumph, Leeroi resumed pummeling the robots the best he could muster. Such fickle metal creatures. Just when he thought he understood robots better than other trolls, they set out to prove him wrong. He just couldn't catch a break in this madness of life, could he?

Hemera is attacking the bureaubots!

DMG: 5
HP: 18/20

Defense power 1/1
Support A 1/1

Still frustrated. Confused. Unsure. She didn't like having to play tactics with an otherwise predictable troll. But so much still made so little sense. Hemera didn't like it. She kept herself busy, trying not to think about it. Or else she might dwell on that two seconds she could call Leeroi endearing. Eugh.

Not paying attention, she bumped into a bot that demanded she fill some paperwork. "Yes, yes..." Mera didn't even look up before going through the forms. She worked on autopilot, only pausing when there was a jump between pages.

"Er..." she blinked. "I believe something's missing...?" Hemera blinked up at the robot. O-oh. She hadn't even realized the thing wasn't a troll at first. Then, after an awkward pause, it swatted her to Hemera's awkward shock and shut down.

She stood there, frazzled. "What in the world?!"

Leeroi attacks the bureaubots!
HP: 7/20 (-1 ongoing dmg)
DMG: 4

Leeroi spotted the spectacled tealblood mid-spin. Immediately, Leeroi froze in the middle of his ridiculous tactic and straightened as much as possible, which also happened to be enough force to crack the chair— at least enough to allow him to stand properly. He glanced down at the damage, and then back up at Hemera. A quick, faint thought wished that she was looking over when it happened. But, she seemed fairly entrenched with fighting the bots her own way, which seemed fairly... clean. Free of fighting? Leeroi couldn't place the word as fast as he could run up and punch one of the offending bots before her.

Effectively placing himself between the robots and Hemera, Leeroi was standing uncomfortably close. He opened his mouth to speak, but coming up with no witty remark, he simply tapped the tealblood on the sniffnode and laughed.

Hemera is attacking the bureaubots!

DMG: 1
HP: 16/20

Defense power 1/1

Her recent encounter left Hemera confused and upset, but a little more aware of her surroundings. There were robots coming in everywhere she looked, like the one with the forms but unfamiliar otherwise. Also, they appeared to be giving trolls a hard time. But she couldn't figure out why. She certainly hadn't experienced any safety violations, at least nothing that could be considered Chittentown's fault.

Then, before any answers or before she could even ask, Leeroi bounded into the scene and started attacking bots. He seemed so sure of himself, throwing her off further.

She took a step back after he touched her nose. He touched her, of all things, and was even...laughing? And they were way too close. Mera created some space before trying to compose herself. "F-Furore? What is so funny? You know what, actually, I don't want to know. Do you have any idea what's going on here?"

Mera glanced at the floor, where a robot head just rolled by her foot. She gently kicked it away. The tealblood couldn't handle that emotionless stare.

Leeroi attacks the bureaubots!
HP: 5/20 (-1 ongoing dmg)
DMG: 3

Pouting cluelessly, Leeroi shrugged at Hemera, hardly taking note of her attempt to distance herself. To be completely honest, he joined the fight just to punch stuff. Maybe there was a better way to stop these pencil-pusher robots.

"Dunno," Leeroi verbalized with his shrug, "The machines are borked. Or maybe programmed to be wound too tight with the protocol." He made a vague, confusing hand gesture. "Don't ask me, I didn't design them. But they did tie me up and berate me, and everyone else seems cool with smashing 'em." Leeroi explained, pointing out the other fighters in the area.

Quote:
Healed Leeroi for 10HP

"Wait wait wait. They tied you up?" Clearly it hadn't worked in the long run, though she wasn't sure if that would have been beneficial or not. Honestly, Hemera didn't even think robots would even think to constrict a person like that. This was all too much. Mera looked out at the confusion around them. No one seemed to be having an easy time. She definitely wasn't sure that she could fault Leeroi for anything this time.

"Hmm." Hemera squinted. "I see. And the shut down procedures musn't be easily available. There must be a way to reason with them to some degree," she reasoned aloud. Hemera was still trying to assess a way to approach the situation.

Step one, test hypothesis. She approached a bot, and listened to its grievances. They seemed to have issues with violations, from the gibberish she could glean. Every time she tried to respond, it either ignored her or cut her off. Pleasantries weren't working. Eventually, she tried to play its game, pointing out a lightbulb in case that might put them on the same footing.

Instead, it grabbed her. A response, but not pleasant. Hemera struggled to get it off, pushing it away with a defensive kick, making it fall to the ground.

"I guess I was hoping for too much," she sighed. Frustrating indeed, but not as terrible as it would be with a troll, she supposed. Mera looked over at Leeroi again, trying to re-tie her hair.

Even with the scar and the prosthetic, he was looking a little worse off than usual. A person would get worn down after punching metal for a while, wouldn't they?

"If we need to fight, we'll have to be at our best. Here." She pulled out her trinket. "If you don't mind me saying, it looks like they've definitely been chipping away at you."

She pressed it to his cheek. "I'm trying to imagine how in the world they managed to tie you up," she admitted with a small, soft chuckle. "Do you have any tips on how to avoid that, in the future? For any amateurs at berserk trollbot diplomacy?"

Leeroi attacks the bureaubots!
HP: 15/20
DMG: 0

Leeroi instinctively flinched from Hemera's cool touch on his bruised face. Immediately, he righted himself, leaning back into her healing touch, but not without biting his lip. This was too much for the blueblood. He tried to find something to do with his hands, closing and opening fists, wearing an expression of pained confusion. Then, after a moment, he felt the healing powers surge through him, and it brought with it a familiar calmness. He opened his eyes to focus on Hemera.

And she was flirting with him? Complimenting him? This was equal parts confusing and intriguing. Still, he couldn't help but lean in a touch closer, smiling with half-lidded eyes, laughing along with her. Gog he liked it when she laughed. "I'm still trying to put that mystery together, myself," he admitted, flashing a toothy smile. "My only advice is uh... uh," Leeroi struggled to find the words, "Try to... stay alert."

As if on cue, a bureaubot reached forward to grab hold of Leeroi, pulling it rapidly towards itself and the rest of the fighting. Coiling its robotic limbs around the blueblood and shrieking about some kind of distance protocol that he had been violating, Leeroi could only look back at Hemera with a humored expression. "They just can't keep their hands off me!" He yelled, laughing softly to himself. With a quick snap, he knocked his head back in a headbutt maneuver, trying to disorient the robot who had taken hold of him.

Hemera is attacking the bureaubots!

DMG: 6
HP: 11/20

Defense power 1/1

Violence didn't have to be the answer in most cases, but robots weren't that capable of reasoning, as far as Hemera was concerned. Faulty equipment due to be demolished if there weren't any other options. The heavy hitters needed to be given space, and someone like Leeroi probably needed the outlet anyway. That's what she would say later, if she had to say anything.

Interesting to note that, even though she was unsure about Leeroi, at this moment he didn't seem to be messing with her. Maybe that made it easier to relax.

"Hmm. I already took a clipboard to the head. I am very alert after that." No point pretending it didn't happen after how public the moment was. And, really, others looked like they were having a worse time.

She leaped back at sudden motions. Things moving into the space, catching Leeroi. Alert indeed. She watched, bemused, while Leeroi threw out a one-liner and, more importantly, hit his head against a metal interface.

"I suppose that's a clear enough rejection," she commented. Is this what they called battle banter? Fascinating. In movies she always wondered if it was actually possible to multi-task so well.

Speaking of. For every bot that went down, another approached to take its place. More practice to try to hash out whatever they were going on about. Also, getting a little close for comfort.

"Isn't there an occupancy limit to most buildings? Don't you think extra masses breaches that? Who am I supposed to contact if the authority-enforced codes are being violated by their own representatives?" Mera asked. Ooh, she felt clever.

Doubly so since the beaurobot seemed to shut down, unable to respond. Finally, beating something at its own game. Hemera was ready to pose in triumph.

But it just had to explode in a fiery blaze before she could.

Mahmud HADILL SESHAT is fighting the BUREAUCRAT BOTS

Just how much of a beating could one child and one lusus take from a rogue robot? Apparently a ton, because despite it still grappling with Mahmud both mother and son were attacking it to the best of their abilities. Of course, feathers, beaks, and little fingers could only do so much to the steel chaise of their opponent.

"Let go let go let go!"
"Coo coo! Coo coo! Coo coo!"

No amount of begging stopped the assault, the barrage of violations and code numbers. Every moment was living agony. Mahmud may have gotten a small headache. Had this not been a true threat, it would have seemed comical the extent to which this bothered the family.
