"I hope so," Jordan said, and unsnapped the first of the chains. She can go home, he thought grimly, and hoped that it wouldn't be home in the sense he thought about once in a while, that he didn't like to admit to thinking.

The patient seemed to focus on him as the chain clinked, peering through limp black hair at him. There was no awareness left in her eyes, and a long string of drool dripped out of her mouth. As Jordan got the end of the chain, she lunged suddenly at him, teeth snapping in a grotesque frenzy. He backed up and let the other chains pull her up short.

He waited until the patient had slumped back into the chair, losing focus again, then moved to release the second chain. She didn't move, but as the chain attached to her wrist slackened, she began to cough, hoarse, heavy, racking coughs that sprayed droplets of blood, a fine mist that spattered across Jordan's sleeve.

He grimaced and transferred both chains to his left hand, checked his scarf to be sure it was clean, and then wrapped it across his nose and mouth, one-handed. If this was a disease, he didn't want any chance that the spray of blood might get into his airways. If it wasn't ... well, the improvised mask wouldn't hurt anything, and getting bloody spittle on his face was a distinctly disgusting thought anyway.

This third chain came loose. The patient continued to cough, barely able to draw breath between spasms, and Jordan grimaced under the mask, disgusted and sympathetic, imagining the painful ache of abused ribs.

She's probably not lucid enough to understand it, Ferros put in.

I don't know if that helps.

Cautiously, Jordan unclipped the fourth chain, tensely alert to any movement from the patient. She folded over slowly, coughing helplessly and endlessly, and it took willpower not to move to support her. She wouldn't comprehend it, and getting any closer would be dangerous. As it was, his coat was spattered with fine sprays of blood. He might have to get a new one, or pay to get this one repaired after bleaching it thoroughly.

The spasms eventually thinned, then stopped, and the patient sat limply in the chair, apparently exhausted. It still wasn't safe, but they could probably move her now. "Ready when it's clear," Jordan said to Melvin.

Group: Arorangi, Oliver, Lydia

It was ages before they were hustled through the lighthouse portal but Lydia hadn't even noticed the time drag on, so delighted by her present company and the prospect of getting to work with them in a mission. On the other side of the portal, in a dilapidated hallway, and they were given instruction by Mark (who Lydia felt was looking especially rugged this fine day).

Through it all, her excitement rose, and by the time they had their own cell and contaminated patient, Lydia practically rushed into the room, eager to get started.

"Oh, oh! Me! Let me!" She gently pushed passed Oliver to get herself closer, staring at the rooms chained occupant with wide eyes and mounting fascination before she reached out to undo one of it's chains.

It lunged at her almost immediately, snapping it's teeth at her, and she jerked back slightly, a surprised look on her face before that all melted away with a smile. "Now now, I'll have none of that, sir! Or ma'am?" She honestly couldn't tell....

All her words earned her was some drool, so, still smiling, she unfastened the chain more carefully this time, before turning her attention to the next.

This time as she removed the chain, the patient began to stir restlessly in its chair, and suddenly she could hear what sounded like actual words coming from the infected's lips.

"Oh dear! It's okay, I am sure once this process is finished somebody will find you something to eat. You poor thing!" She actually had a rather sympathetic look on her face as she gazed at the cells occupant, fingers gripping both sets of chains tight.

It took a lot of self-control not to run over to Jordan to help him while he removed the chains and was snapped at. The poor infected hunter would go from drooling and distant to suddenly angry and lunging. She didn't say anything, speak to them, or seem to focus too long on them aside from when she wanted to lunge, and all he could think that she probably was….IS a good person. That she has hobbies and manners and probably a lovely voice but it was ruined by this infection.

They were helping her, he hoped.

When she was restrained and released from her chair, Melvin nodded and checked the cameras to be given the all clear. When it was time, he gestured to Jordan. "We're up." And he slowly walked with Jordan and their ward, moving to the decontamination room.

He stepped out of the way to let Jordan lock the woman in, and when she was in place, waited for the cold to subdue her in order to be decontaminated. For all the hunters to be here on this mission renewed a bit of his faith in Deus Ex in that they weren't just instantly writing these hunters off or killing them but actively working to bring them home.

The woman stirred but didn't slow down entirely, and his eyes rolled around, a glazed green like pea soup under a milky lens. "I wonder if there will be permanent damage to them." He wondered out loud before waiting.

Jordan gritted his teeth against the chill in the air and held onto the chains, watching the patient carefully. She shivered briefly, then began to tremble all over; the tremors increased steadily until she was convulsing, thrashing against the chains in eerie silence. Jordan held the chains taut and squashed the urge to help again. They couldn't get too close.

1) The patient is not subdued and talks about a great hunger. They try very hard to gnaw at their own arms.

"It hurts…"

Melvin paused, eyes wide as the woman finally spoke. Her voice was raw and it seemed that all the drooling and spitting didn't mean she was hydrated. Still, speaking meant she was there in some sense. She could formulate thoughts still despite her virus.

"I'm sorry. We're only restraining you in order to cure you." He hoped.

"I'm hungry." She growled, angry that he had not figured that out.

"I'm…sure we can get you something later. Just stay cal –"

"I’M HUNGRY!" She shouted, lunging and jerking on the chains. Melvin stepped back from her, and frowned.

When she saw she couldn't reach then, she slouched and threw her head side to side as she moaned. "I'm hungry…………so hungry…………it's eating me inside……."

Flopping her head to one side, she turned her mouth and bite down hard onto her shoulder, her teeth piercing her flesh.

He couldn't move to her to stop her and instead had to console himself with the idea that she would heal after this.

Eventually, the patient's rambling and growling slowed and then ceased, and her movements slowed to a vague and sluggish twitching. "I think we're good to move," Jordan said, and carefully tugged on the chains. The patient shambled forward, moving as though underwater, all the remaining light gone out of her eyes.

Cell 14 - Room B
Group: Melvin & Jordan


Melvin moved in to help Jordan now that she seemed stable enough and together they strapped her down to the designated decontamination spot. When she was locked in place, he slowly rose his hands and stepped away before heading to the door, watching her and glancing at Jordan before he made his way calmly but quickly to the door.

She didn't seem to mind them now, only whining softly about the hunger inside. It made him feel sad for her and she hoped she could get a sandwich after.

Cell 14 - Room B

The patient didn't react at all as Jordan got the chains fastened down to the tether points in the floor. She simply stood, swaying very slightly, otherwise entirely unresponsive. She didn't seem to notice that they were leaving, and Jordan breathed a small sigh of relief as the door slid shut behind him and Melvin without incident.

"Thanks," he said to Melvin, and headed back toward the staging room. They might have to repeat the process, but a break would be great, and maybe he could get some of the blood wiped off his coat.

cell 17 - Room C
leslie + abbi + nora

"Definitely not the cat people! That movie was the worst!" Hopefully Nora wasn't a fan of that atrocious attempt at sci-fi. "I don't think I could limit myself to just two words! No way, no how!" Abbi shouted about the groans of their patient, of whom she was keeping a pretty wide berth from. Thankfully the others had taken the reins, quite literally, and given her a bit of a free pass for the moment. She did send a very curious look to Leslie and wondered if he would amend his ways or heed the warnings Miss Brit was giving him. Abbi sincerely doubted the latter, but it was still a point of interest for her.
Once she saw the thumbs up from Nora she motioned for them to follow and lead the party down the hallway to the quarantine check. Thankfully the instructions had come across the intercom pretty clearly so there was no need to do any shouting about listening.

Cold greeted her before she'd even stepped inside, but Abbi was not one to dilly-dally with a task at hand. She scurried into the room and located the camera quickly, giving it a salute before she whirled around to watch the patient enter. The group did not have to wait long before the patient's movements begun to slow and though it required her to get close, Abbi tip toed near them, gave them a quick tap on the head and watched an incredibly slowed down response. By the time the patient had their head up to snap at her, she was back below the camera, giving them a shaky thumbs up.
If questioned, she would naturally blame the cold.
"You guys ready to call this one a wrap?" So maybe she was shivering and her teeth chattered and she was totally done with zombies for a good long while, Abbi still managed a chipper sort of note and tacked on a smile for the two.

Cell 24 - Room C - Dakota, Molly

Dakota's responses were in the way his body shuffled away from her, the way it never lost it's rigid posture, and the way no smile ever played on his face. Instead he went about, in the room, tying the zombie down.

Except the infected wanted to seriously tug his s**t around. he made a low growling noise as the first tie came undone.
