Solomon didn't make too great of a shadow, but Peyton just seemed to know people and he was going to leech that from her where he could at this early on in the game.

"'s sounding like some sort of hazing ritual to get grievous injuries around here....." Solomon commented, the mere thought of it making his knee throb in sympathy and prompting a venture with the bottle of painkillers in his pocket. "Is there a way to opt out of that part of things?"

Peyton reflected for a moment on the various people she had met and did a mental count of those that had scars, and what rank they were in. "I think getting hurt is inevitable in this line of work, but there are a lot of trainees I know that have been here long then me that don't have any vicious looking scars yet." Except Tuck, whom she had given a scar, but she didn't think the thin scar along the ridge of his jaw really counted as vicious.

She eyed Jordan's scar, and it had a peculiar effect. On the one hand it managed to make Peyton feel all the more uneasy, but his assurance that he'd made a full recovery managed to ease a hard knot of fear that had settled like lead in the pit of her stomach. She was still worried, and likely would be until she could get back some mobility, but his scar looked pretty extreme, and he'd healed.

It made her hopeful.

The smile that she turned up to the taller blonde was full of relief, and she had to reign in the sudden urge to hug the other Sun hunter. "Thank you."

Jordan glanced at the new guy's coat and gave him a small, wry smile. "Sorry, bro. You're in the wrong division to be avoiding grievous injuries. We're front-line offensive, so we're right there getting the claws and teeth." The claw marks that skated down the side of his neck suggested that this was a very literal description. "Teaming up with a good Moon will go a long way towards minimizing that, though."

He nodded to Peyton, noting the relief in her smile; that was what he'd been trying for. "It's frustrating to be out of action," he said, and looked out thoughtfully towards the thing that was still lumbering its slow way towards the compound.

As amusing as it was to not-so-subtly threaten her 'sibling', Mimsy could not ignore Noah's inquiries over samples of digestive fluids. These new additions truly were so promising.

"You are off to a good start. It would be beneficial regardless to compare a sample you collect now with a posthumous sample to determine any potential differences. "

She curled her hand and scooped a fair amount of drying, still-glowing muck from the back of Lucky's coat.

"Not the most pure of samples, but preserving it in the bottle should prevent it from getting much worse."

Noah brightened visibly at the praise and hastily fumbled the cap off the bottle. "It's not sterile," he said a little anxiously, "but at least it can be sealed, right?" He scooped the mouth of the bottle through the muck, funneling some inside, and screwed the cap on tightly before holding it up to get a look at it. "Man, that's disgusting," he said with an air of satisfaction. "I hope they'll let me try to analyze it later if there's enough power and supplies and stuff. Or at least see the results, it'd suck not to know."

He tucked the bottle back into his pocket with great care and beamed at Mimsy. "Thank you!"

Rep eyed the empty harpoon frame with wistful sadness. There were so many harpoonable things in the world and never enough harpoons. He didn't even have Harrison to make smartass comments at about it being better looking than some women he'd met, it wasn't the same saying it aloud to no one specific.

And this ******** thing was too big to punch.

He crossed his arms and tried not to look awkward.

SUN HUNTER

Smiling up at Solomon, Kat shook his hand before moving to stand back up herself. "Nice to meet you as well, Solomon." She would introduce herself as well, but she was sure he had already heard it when she had introduced herself to Peyton.

Attention shifting to Peyton, Kat waved her hand lazily. "Eh, don't worry about it." Her foot may be throbbing, but at least it was not too painful to bare, that she wouldn't walk on it. "Though, I wish they made these things a little easier to fire.." She said, puffing her cheek slightly as she stared at the large hunk of metal.

"Hey, Jordan." She didn't know this sun hunter all too well, but she did know of him. Hell, he had been in Deus as long as she could remember. Far longer than she had been, anyways. Not wishing to interrupt the conversation between Peyton and Jordan, Kat listened quietly to the two as they spoke, only speaking when Solomon did.

"Heh heh, there is no guarantee that you'll get scarring, but it won't be an easy thing to avoid."

Plasma Gun Charge: 13

He couldn't hide everything. He couldn't hide the way he tensed up when Mimsy placed a hand on his shoulder. How his heartbeat quickened involuntarily at the insinuation she whispered in his ear, and set of a chain reaction of physical tells. She knew him well enough by now that there was no point in hiding it even if he could. Perhaps even from the lack of it. She would have known anyway.

That he was afraid of her.

But the game had only just begun. And if he won, she could be saved. Or at the very least, fixed. He had something of a long-term investment in their dangerous dance.

Noah's interjection did away with the tension before either of them could make another move.

"Aaa - really?" he complained as Mimsy scooped the slime off of him. He gave Noah a pitiful look very similar to a soaked cat. "Vell, let me know if you make next big breakthrough in FEAR science vhen you get it tested. Then I can at least reassure myself that I did not get covered in it for nothing."

Sun Lot Over Hurr

Solomon gave Kat's hand a tight squeeze - well, barely tight enough squeeze - before he released her. "Well seems like we'll all be working together so might as well make friends." he smiled, scratching his chin scruff.

Jordan's comment probably should have been more jarring than it was as Solomon just shrugged, hand squeezing the bottle in his pocket for comfort at the idea of more pain. "Well, I don't mind takin' punches where necessary, just not as a hazin'." he replied before adding a - "Not sure what a 'Moon' is, kinda got handed a coat and let out on the loose." No really, he was pretty fortunate to just know he was a sun at that point.

It'll be fun! The claws and the teeth!
Yeaaahhh! We'll take good care of ya Nomolos.

Solomon wasn't sure how to feel about Aren (and Aren2) and his helpful slightly broken but meaningful backup.

Which reminded him - "B'the way, I'm Solomon Knolls." Now his hand was extended to Jordan, "I trust you'll take care of me while I'm learnin' the ropes, yeah?"

White, familiar white, the white of the fog that had been contained on the island was everywhere. It stripped off the creature, pouring out of it layer by layer, not the natural steam expected of fog but instead in strange congealed rivulets. It was like watching a cocoon spin itself backwards, as the fog escaped, but slowly, in a pattern, as much of a pattern as Insanity could provide, leaving behind a considerably smaller creature.

Considerably smaller, and still easily towering over walls of Deus Ex. It continued to surge forward, bit by bit, step by step. Its eyes easily peered over the walls.

"We need help downstairs, NOW!"

A man in a wheelchair was waiting for them downstairs. Some would recognize him as the Mist division assistant. He muttered something about conveniently missing division leads, but there was no real time to idle, and he immediately pointed to the strange equipment that was being hauled out from the weapons shed in the training fields.

The cord was thick, the entire contraption itself heavy and weighted, at least several tonnes. It took a team of Hunters, moving in unison, to haul them, wheels and everything.

"Look," said Lance (wheelchair guy) flatly, "It's about as dumb as it looks. We don't have many options here, and I'm about as strapped for ideas as you are as to how to get these on the Insanity beast."

Upon the word these, the homeless Death Hunter (well, future homeless, if Deus fell), looked up from haphazardly strapping what looked like the most ridiculous, clunky Runic daggers known to the facility. They were pretty much glorified versions of stone age Runic weapons, now glowing a bright blue on both ends. Infused perhaps. Tacky, mostly.

"Yes, you mean these babies," continued the future homeless Death Hunter. "They're still a prototype so you treat them gently. Now usually one of these can stop any Insanity creature cold, but we're dealing with a kaij-"

- Lance gave Mark (the future homeless Hunter) an increduous look.

-"Insanity Titan," Mark corrected himself, "So I guess you can borrow these. I have enough parts for a few rounds, however many it will take, but you better treat them gently. You're only borrowing them." There was heavy emphasis on the borrowing.

"Well that's it then," Lance finished gruffly. "Charlotte and Simon are waiting for you on the battlefield, you better help them out."

The battlefield referred to the lowest parts of the ramparts, where several of the long cord-contraptions lay. Charlotte, the Moon Division assistant was strapping Hunters to the cords, one around the waist, the other around the shoulder. It didn't look very safe and it looked less safe when Simon wound the cord and -

- Literally, launched a Hunter right at the Insanity Titan. Thankfully they landed somewhat safely, though that was to be measured considering the victim was now a tiny speck tied to a bungee cord. The creature itself didn't seem to notice.

Because both assistants were pretty much equally verbose, they simply gestured for the volunteers to head over. There were some others thankfully bellowing some instructions. Sun and Death were on the offense, Moon and Life on the defense. Mist would fill in gaps where applicable. They were trying everything, they were creating a system to bide for time.

Along the side, the Life assistant seemed to be working with a few techs on something quite impressive, but it didn't seem quite ready yet.

Upon being stared at, the Life assistant boggled, taking a moment to wipe his sweat away with his handkerchief. "Well, what are you looking at? Go-go weaken the thing so we actually have a chance to work on blasting it!" He was about to say something else but someone was calling someone named Jim and he was responding to it, so his name was probably Jim. Or Tim. Or Chin. It was hard to tell over the noise.

Unsafe was one way to mention what was going on. Desperate was another. And yet they were Hunters. They lived to fight, and they were not alive until they fought, struggled, so that when they finally fell, they went down as Hunters. It was chaos, but it was also an odd mish-mash of team work, an odd semblance of faces that would have never interacted with each other giving it their very best, doing their very best to contribute. It was not about being better, it was about getting the job done, against all odds.

This was perhaps the missing link so many had forgotten.

OOC

PHASE 2: TAKING THE CREATURE DOWN. BOSS HP: 7, 000 / 10, 000

- CONGRATS you have defended the walls! Now it is time for phase 2!
- If you DID NOT get a post from phase 1, you can still enter for phase 2! Simply come in from the battlefield! All the old equipment is discarded, no longer usable at this point. A lot of it was experimental equipment anyway, never meant to be used to such an occasion. At this point Hunters are divided into two types: OFFENSIVE and DEFENSIVE.

One OFFENSIVE Hunter MUST be paired with a Defensive Hunter

- Suns and Death are considered Offensive Hunters
- Moon and Life are considered Defensive Hunters
- Mist can fill in on any role, but two Mist Hunters cannot work in tandem with each other. (Ie: Mist + Mist is not okay, but Mist + Sun, or Mist + Moon is aokay!)

gaia_crown [ STEP 1: LFG ]

- There's a bit of a queue going on ICly as people get set up! Feel free to take this time to look for buddies, if you haven't found a buddy, you may look for one by following the below instructions in this step!
- Before you post for LFG (looking for a buddy for offensive OR defensive), look around for anyone posting in OOC LFG bold orange. Check for their division. If you are the complementary division, quote them, and have your character interact with them. Put in your quote what character you are having interact with what character of theirs. This is assuming someone else hasn't quoted them first. Once you have found someone proceed to step 2!
- If EVERYONE has been quoted, and there are no empty roles, you may now post looking for a player! Simply post your RP with your character heading down to the battlefield and have them ICLY be looking around for someone. Then post in OOC QUOTES LOOKING FOR ___ (offensive or defensive) (IN THE BOLD ORANGE). Make sure you can at least get a post in in the next 12-24 hours so you don't leave your partner hanging! Once someone has quoted you, please do edit out your post! Once you have found someone proceed to step 2!
- If you don't feel like looking for a Hunter but you want to get a post in, you can simply help with manning the anchors and pushing hazardous equipment out of the way as well as supplying those heading out with the proper equipment (daggers, etc).

gaia_crown [ STEP 2: DEFENSIVE HUNTERS: ]

- Defensive Hunters are in charge of manning the strange coiled device and grappling hook. They must secure the Offensive Hunter with the straps, one around the waist, another around the back (sort of like a lifejacket). They are the ones that move first, as damage calculated is an accumulation of the defensive AND offensive Hunter's work. Rp out handling the offensive Hunters, and really, strapping them down. When you are ready, signal to the offensive Hunter icly, however you want to do it, even if it's with a merry handwave. Then, aim carefully, and FIRE. You are launching (catapulting) the offensive Hunter hundreds of feet into the air, hopefully they aren't afraid of heights. When doing so, apply these mechanics:
- Trainees roll 1d10, Intermediate 1d12, full Hunters 1d20-4 (only full hunters have a modifier!)
- Moon Hunters get a + 5 stability bonus. Add + 5 to your roll result
- Mist Hunters can roll 1d6. If even choose one of the two, if odd the bonus didn't work! Full Mist Hunters can just choose one of the two.
- Life Hunters get an accuracy recount. If your first roll is not good, you have the OPTION to reroll. Simply have them notice that their aiming was off and quickly readjust before they actually fired. Then, roll again. You take the better of the two rolls.
- After you have done so and literally rped launching your buddy into the air at the Insanity titan, quote the player. The HIGHER the roll the better your aim was. Post in OOC the final TALLY of your roll.

gaia_crown [ STEP 3: OFFENSIVE HUNTERS: ]

- Offensive Hunters are flying into the air! The grappling hook soars and then sinks into a part of the Titan! Before being launched, make sure they grabbed one of the archaic Runic Dagger infusers. Then, make sure that all their straps are secure and then - BAM. They have been launched into the air! Check to see what the TALLY of your quoted buddy was.
- If it was less than 5, you got launched right into the creature's tail. OUCH. Hope you like clinging for dear life as the tail flails aout. +0 bonus
- If it was 6 - 12 , you got launched right onto the creature's back. It's a little wobby, but the platelets provide some stability. Most of the time +5 bonus*
- If it was 13+ you launch onto the creature's head. This is the most stable position and you can get a clear view of the eyes. +10 bonus. *

* This is a distance bonus and DOES NOT affect your damage total

- Now, an offensive Hunter must plant the infusers (daggers) somewhere on the titan, hopefully on a weak spot. These infusers will drain the Insanity out of the creature, but very slowly. It's more effective than a weapon at this point!. Trainees roll 2d8-6, Intermediates 2d10-6, Full Hunters 2d12-6. Take the result. Multiply it by the result of your defensive hunter buddy. That means if your defensive hunter launched you for 12, and you rolled 12, you do 144 damage total between the two of you! Post this result IN BOLD RED
- Death Hunters may reroll if they get a bad roll and take the best result of two.
- Sun Hunters may upgrade their dice by one, so trainee dice become 2d10-6, intermediate 2d12-6, and full hunter 2d12-4.
- Mist Hunters can roll 1d6. If even choose one of the two, if odd the bonus didn't work! Full Mist Hunters can just choose one of the two.

- Example: My buddy is a Moon Hunter. He launched me for 6, which was quoted to me. I land on the creature's back. I am a trainee Sun Hunter, so with the BONUS I roll 2d10-6. I get 6, 6, so I do 6 damage. I then use the multiplier, of 6 x 6= 36 damage TOTAL. Post this in ooc bold red.

gaia_crown [ STEP 3:] The offensive Hunter should use the straps to secure their landing as they zipline down the cable back to safety. The grappling hook can be left on to try and slow the creature down. You can now brofist each other. If you are an Intermediate Hunter, you can try again twice, if you are a Full Hunter, you have the OPTION of trying three times. You can use the same buddy (where applicable) or find a new buddy!

gaia_crown MATHEMATICALLY CHALLENGED: IF you are mathematically challenged, you may find a PROXY of any Hunter in your division that will use up your turns too. They can proxy for you using the stats of YOUR class (ie if you are a trainee, they will be doing trainee rolls). Barring that, feel free to just rp out handling one of the machines, I will not calculate the damage, but at least you get the RP experience in. There is 48 hours to respond to this post from this point onwards!

DAMAGE CALCULATION:

- If LESS than 5, 00 damage is done, all Hunters end up getting hit with the creature's venomous spray. This nerfs their attack and HP by half for a whole IC (and ooc) month.
- If LESS than 1, 000 damage is done, the fog causes a terrible lingering effect. The sun goes away for a prolonged period of time, making everything dark and miserable again.
- If LESS than 1, 500 damage is done, the Insanity creature shrieks and goes away, but not before it literally destroys the Abandoned Towns. Whoops....

While Jordan was talking to Solomon, Peyton had returned her attention to Kat, nodding in agreement to the idea of things being made a little easier. Then the fog snagged at her attention, and she was staring rather wide eyed up at the monster. It didn't matter that it was getting smaller, It was still massive, and it was still dangerous, and the potential for destruction still rode the air like a choking cloud.

Her attention was so thoroughly rooted on the monster that she missed quite a bit of the conversation that carried on without her, but Sol's comment dew her attention back to him. She blinked at him, apparently trying to gage how serious he was being, then frowned. "Moon is a division, they're defensive where we're offensive."

Even as she offered the explanation her attention was sliding back to the glowing beast and it's slow roil of fog.

Orders were being called out again, and she obediently started to move where directed, but not before reaching out to catch a hold of Solomon's coat to pull him along. If he didn't know all the divisions, then she wasn't going to take it for granted that he knew where he should be heading.

Of course once they'd gotten where they were directed to go, and Peyton got a good look at what they were supposed to be doing, all the color seemed to drain from her face as she shuffled back a few steps to place herself behind the other sun trainee. There was no ******** way she was going to let anyone strap her to a grappling hook and launch her into the sky at a giant rampaging monster when she couldn't move her ******** arm. <******** that noise.

These were the thoughts going through her head, but even as she stared mutely ahead at the hunters that were beginning to pair up, she knew, knew, that if someone approached her, she'd do what she was ordered to do.

[LOOKING FOR DEFENSIVE]

[Sun Division]

"I think i broke a toe kicking that pos actually." he jerked a thumb back toward his harpoon. "It'll be fine ... eventually. Still hurts like a b***h." He set his foot down, managing not to grimace too much. At least if he was careful he could probably hobble a bit and not look like a complete looser.

"I'm Inoke." he held a hand out to the other. "No idea what you just said but if it means giant goo spitting monster then yes."

At least the noise around them seemed to be dying down but whatever the monster was doing didn't exactly look like fun and neither did whatever contraption they were wheeling out. "I think we're supposed to be helping with whatever ... that is." He tipped his head to the side, trying to figure what what the hell it was.

"Come on." He snagged Milo's hand and tugged him down toward the battlefield and the rest of the hunters.

Well, that was certainly something, and Shiloh grimaced as he caught sight of a new monster’s eyes peering over the main walls. It was considerably smaller, but Shiloh didn’t assume it was any less dangerous, or, as he wiped a bit of clinging slime from his hands, any less hungry.

Shiloh abandoned his post on the box, and without asking, grabbed Quinn’s arm, pulling him after him to where the man in a wheelchair was waiting, explaining things to the group gathered there.

He decided that, in another life, he would get himself a little apartment, somewhere nice. It would be small, but comfortable. Open and airy, with wide windows to open and let in the breeze. The walls would be painted, not white, but a pale yellow, because yellow was a pleasant color, a soothing color to him. There would be movies stacked in a corner beside a television set, and books to the side. Sometimes piano music would be heard somewhere to the back, floating on the wind, whispering pleasantly through the little abode.

It would not, most likely, involve getting trampled on by a beast that looked as though it ate people just for the fun of it.

Gale pushed his way through the thick throngs of people, his eyes searching, of course, for Stormy. He hoped she was with someone safe, that she was steering clear of the actual launching part, but she was also smaller and agile and would probably have better aim. Still...

Up ahead, he saw a familiar face, a flash of dark hair. He reached out a hand and grasped Ceres' arm.

"Hey," he said, and there was someone else beside her; an unfamiliar hunter with long, dark, dreadlocked hair that Gale didn't recognize. He gave him a slightly scrutinizing look, and then said to Ceres, "You okay?"

It seemed that speaking was no longer required, really, because 'action' seemed to take the place of everything.

Well, this normally would have been his cue to stay out of the way....

"AAH! Shiloh, What!" He exclaimed, grabbing out and grabbing the first thing he could (mimsy) and pulling her along too.

Well, at least he wouldn't be one of the flyers...right?
