Bandersnatch, or Bandi to those who knew him well, was bored. His dads were busy bothering Grandpa Boris at the amusement park. Apparently Mary had had some kids, though Bandi currently had no interest in the bowls. Hopefully they would have more musical talent than their father. His mothers were busy, one with his dad and the other either with them or visiting her sister. Family things. He had no clue where the rest of his siblings were. Off training or amusing themselves, probably. None had bothered to take him with them; he was turning over the idea of practicing his stealth skills to sneak up on someone and give them a good marking to prove they needed to work harder. It would be satisfying to take some of his pique out on them, and might even be a fun game which would cure his boredom... Now to figure out who to target.
Aeolai was hungry, and had been wandering through various dreams for a while now, looking for nightmares to snack on. She'd had very little luck so far, as it seemed today nearly all those asleep had pleasant dreams. She could have very well eaten those too, but her personal creed was to only consume nightmares, as surely no one would miss those. At this point, she couldn't even remember how many different dreams she'd passed through on this trip. She was starting to feel somewhat lost, and was even considering returning to the 'awake' world soon if she couldn't find anything. Deciding to rest for a while in the next dream, she stepped through the fabric separating different dreamworlds from one another, stumbling into what seemed like a city plaza, shadowed by a clock tower. The buildings were old-fashioned.. was this the dream of someone with a love for history, maybe? But at the same time, there was something strange about the place.. the young baku looked around, wondering where she should head next.
By this point Bandi was now strolling down the path, heading towards the clock tower. He didn't think he'd find anyone there for sure, but since none of his siblings were at the Hatter Mansion and he was pretty darn sure they weren't in the Queen's castle or the Amusement Park, the clock tower was a logical place to look, if only to eliminate it as a possibility. The castle would be his next stop though; it was always a fun challenge, getting into the grounds and playing games with the guards. It was actually a favorite pasttime of their fathers.
His thoughts were interrupted by the sight of a stranger on the path ahead. He instantly paused and examined the stranger, hand moving to the pocket where several tags sat, absently fingering one. Was she from Outside? Was that possible? He knew people from Outside could be brought here, his own mother a perfect example, but to his knowledge the only Outsider who got here on her own was Alice. Well, mostly on her own.
Schooling his face into a pleasant expression, trying not to show /too/ many of his needle-sharp teeth with his smile, he started forward again. "Hello," he called out in tones as pleasant as his voice. "Here to see Juilus? The Clockmaker isn't in right now."
Aeolai turned around as a male voice called out - supposedly addressing her. Who was this 'Julius' he spoke of? This dream seemed quite different from all the others she'd been to. Was this person the dreamer? Usually everything in a dream did concentrate around the dreamer, after all. "Ex.. cuse me? I'm afraid I don't.. really understand what you mean. I only came here for a brief rest, and then I was.. planning on continuing on my way.." she explained in a hushed voice, her face showing quite little emotion. It was indeed strange - no one had ever seen her in a dream before, much less spoken to her. What on earth was this?
"Could you.. maybe tell me where I am?" she finally asked, quickly glancing over the young man. He was well dressed, but what was with his teeth? All in all, it seemed like she had stumbled into a particularly strange dream.. maybe it was one that was becoming a nightmare? That would mean she'd finally find something to eat!
What world? Bandi pulled his hand out of his pocket and scratched his head, tucking the tag behind his ear as he did so. Defensive magic was technically his strong suit, at least over his offensive magic, but he rarely used. Mostly to stay in practice, but otherwise it hadn't been needed yet.
"Why, m'lady, you happen to be in Wonderland." He threw his arms wide, as though presenting the whole of the land at once to the strange. He executed a courtly bow. "Tweedle Bandersnatch Airay, at your service." He looked up, bright red eyes curious. "You're not from around here, I take it?"
"Wonder..land?" Aeolai repeated, tilting her head to the side a little. She had read a book that had a place by that name. Maybe this was a case of someone liking the story too much..? This was all incredibly odd to her. It all seemed so /not/ like a dream, yet she was positive she was still within dreams.. wasn't she? Could she really have gotten so lost she couldn't even tell the difference?
Snapping out of her reeling thoughts, she gave the seemingly polite stranger a small smile. "My name's Aeolai. And you could.. certainly say that", she confirmed his question with a nod, lifting her hand, covered by her overly long sleeve, to sweep some of her hair off her face. "This.. doesn't seem much like the Wonderland.. that I have heard of."
He grinned. There was a hint of feralness to the grin, though it was not threatening. That glimpse hinted that, like this world itself, the surface of things weren't always what they seemed. "We're ourselves, of course! Why would we be anything else?" He leaned forward a bit, even though there were still yards between them. A key swung from a chain around his check. "It's a game, you see. You have to learn the rules pretty quick, or Outlanders like yourself especially run a chance of getting hurt."
It seemed that everything that left Bandersnatch's mouth only confused her further. The girl rubbed her cheeks in mild frustration, trying to make sense of the situation. "Bandersnatch.. was it?" she then spoke up, "What do you mean.. by game? What are these rules? And you called me an 'outlander'.." She'd never been in a dream this vivid! And what on earth was this talk about getting hurt? Dreams didn't hurt.. unless you were trapped in one when the dreamer woke up, that would be life-threatening for her kind. "This is one strange dream.." she signed aloud.
"Outlander," he said in explaining tones. "I means you aren't from Wonderland. It's very odd that you're here. Normally Outlanders can't get here unless brought by someone from Wonderland. Even Alice needed help, I hear, though who knows if that's a rule for her."
He cocked his head to the side. "I can't tell you the rules of the game. No one talks about what the rules are. You figure them out on your own." He straightened back up. Quite suddenly there seemed to be a knife in his hands. It was a kunai, one of his favorites since it was good for throwing or close combat. He twirled it around his finger on the ring at the handle. "People here usually like Outlanders, but you still gotta be careful. Death means something different. We don't hold the same respect for life that the rest of you seem to have." He shrugged as carelessly as he twirled the knife. Maybe it was because he was raised here, but he shared the Wonderland view of death. Even with his gentle mother, or with his grandfather who came to respect life a little more because of his love for Alice, he was a son of the Bloody Twins and under his calm and thoughtful exterior he was just as much a fan of their "games".
Aeolai scratched her cheek, her confusion growing even further. The more was discussed, the more it seemed not like a dream, but at the same time none of it made much sense, either. "I.. was simply traveling from dream to dream, and found myself here.. but this really doesn't seem like.. a dream to me", Aeolai said with a resigned sigh.
She had to blink a couple times, then, as suddenly a knife had appeared in the male's hands. Violence had always been something that made her incredibly uncomfortable, and even though she caught no malicious intent from Bandersnatch, she instinctively took half a step back. "Usually if one dies in a dream, they just wake up.. but I have a feeling that isn't the case here.." she said, her eyes fixated on the twirling knife, her posture a little tense. Since her entire being was within the realm of dreams at the current time, it meant she was actually in potential danger, though she had so far been able to avoid any harm.
A slowing of the knife and a slight tilt to the head showed Bandi's attention had been caught. Several strands of midnight black hair fell forward into his face. Since they didn't affect his vision he left them there. "Traveling through dreams? Only one person has sway among dreams here." He let out a short laugh. "He's kinda weak, physically speaking, but he call do all sorts of things to dreams. Would that make you an incubus as well, or the female version of one?"
He smiled charmingly. "You answer my questions, maybe I'll answer some of yours in return. If I can. Can't make any promises after all. You ask a lot of things."
Aeolai stopped to ponder for a moment. Those within dreams didn't usually dream.. how on earth had she stumbled into such a place?! At his question, she shook her head. "No, I'm not in any way related to incubi or succubi.. I'm something called a baku. I.. eat dreams. They're the only thing I /can/ eat", she explained, tugging on the hem of her shirt-dress somewhat awkwardly. The fact remained she was still hungry, and if this wasn't a dream.. she would have to keep looking. Now, if she could find someone having a nightmare about being chased by gigantic pastries? That would be grand. "Um.. is there something else you'd like to ask me? I guess I should.. answer you if you have more questions before asking more of my own."
Bandi walked over to one of the trees that grew a few feet from the path, leaning with his back against the trunk. Not before he'd glanced up at the branches to make sure nothing was in them first. He began twirling his knife around again. "Hmmmm. Well, how did you get here? Only N-...one person can open the door to Wonderland. Outsiders shouldn't be able to get in here without help."
He had hesitated a little over Nightmare's name. For one it was probably best not to blab out everything he knew. And for another, well....he wasn't sure if Nightmare was in danger from this female. Maybe this world was a dream, maybe it wasn't, maybe Nightmare would be considered food to her, maybe they all were food to her. Who knew for sure.
The female tried to figure out the best way to explain her way of travel. "Ah, well.. I can travel between the waking world and the world of dreams. In a way that this is actually my physical body, but as I travel it shifts between that and metaphysical.. if that makes any sense? I can slip through the fabric of dreams to pass from one to another", she explained, waving her arms a little as she spoke, her sleeves whipping about with the movement.
At this point, she was starting to feel like she had in fact slipped back into reality, and just ended up lost again in a completely different world than she had set out from. It wouldn't be the first time.
Bandi pondered over that information. It could explain how she got here. After all this world was real...and not. Complicated...yet simple. Perhaps the rules had been different when things first started, but over time the game had evolved and so too must have the rules. Not all of them, but maybe....some. Those with Wonderland magic could slip between this world and Outside without the help of Nightmare, or that was how he understood it. When a world considered a dream touched the "real" world, was it still a dream? Who knew. By that logic, this Aeolai person was just as real as they were.
Well, the information didn't change anything expect to answer a question. His expression was thoughtful as he glanced at his twirling knife and, briefly, his key necklace. Could this woman die? People were reborn here all the time. Well, not the people so much as the role, but as long as the role was filled it didn't matter so much who the person was. Bandi was no exception, though he seemed to be neither Roleholder nor Faceless. Did this woman have a clock, or was she like Mother and Alice? Well if she proved to be a danger to this world, there was one fun way to find out.
"Interesting," he said at last. "I can travel between here and Outside, but that's it. Several people here can, but Roleholders tend to stick to Wonderland unless there's urgent need for them Outside. Which there rarely is." Suddenly the sky around them, a bright blue with a spattering of clouds, darkened to deep twilight. Afternoon, then. He wondered if the Queen was holding a tea party, and if his siblings were causing trouble.
The girl kept observing the male, trying to somehow make sense of all that had been said so far.. was it possible for a dream to /not/ be a dream at the same time? This whole place was certainly unique, that much she could tell. And the talk of not having respect for life the same as the 'outside' worried her, as well. And if she wasn't even the only one who could travel back and forth.. it was all so confusing! But at the same time she found this setting intriguing enough to wish to remain, and learn more about it.
And suddenly daylight was replaced by sunset. "What on earth..?" she wondered aloud. "Roleholders? And you can also come and go? I must have somehow ended up outside the dream realm.. this is all very confusing to me", she said in a resigned manner.
"Could you.. please tell me a little more about this Wonderland, so I know what to watch out for, or expect? I.. am not fond of the idea of dying here."
Bandi thought about it for a moment. Not about if he should tell her anything, but about what and how much. Well there was one aspect of Wonderland that was common enough that she should probably know right away. He grabbed the key around his neck, half hidden in the folds of his suit, and gave it a tug. The chain popped from around his neck, not broken but set on a clash meant to release with a hard tug. It made it easier to get the necklace off, and made it less likely to be used as a weapon against him if he ever had to fight hand-to-hand.
In the time it took his to extend his hand out, pointing at Aeolai, the key was gone. In it's place was a gun. It was a small one, granted, a Ruger LCP 380, but since open confrontation wasn't his style the lightweight gun suited him better that something with more kick. It was steel-colored with blue and red decorations in the handle and a silver chain which he had wrapped around his wrist. He debated even firing a few shots, missing the female of course, but decided that might be pushing it. There was no telling yet but he thought perhaps she could be useful to have around. A dream-eater and all... Best not to scare her off.
"All Roleholders have a gun. All Wonderlanders, even, but Roleholders make the rules so the Faceless would never fire on them." He dropped his hand, and suddenly there was a key once again dangling from the end of the chain wrapped around his wrist. He fastened it around his neck again. "I don't know if all Wonderlanders can come and go. It would be too chaotic if they could. Let's just say that it's a possibility."
He tilted his head ever so slightly. "It's not uncommon that if someone ceases to amuse or be useful to a Roleholder, they get killed. The Queen kills follks all the time. And Boss even threatened to kill Alice a few times, but she's still alive so he must still find something about her intriguing." He shrugged carelessy. "Facelss cards are expendable. Even Roleholders are expendable. The Clockmaker fixes the clocks, so the roles continue to be filled. As long as that continues, it doesn't matter if someone dies."
Aeolai was taken aback by the sudden appearance of a gun in Bandi's hand. She instantly took a step back, swallowing hard. He wouldn't just go ahead and shoot her.. right? Then, as quickly as the gun had appeared, it was gone once more.
"All of you.. have guns? That sounds incredibly dangerous to me. I don't know how to use any kind of weapons", she said quietly, her head hanging low, white bangs falling in front of her face. "And you shouldn't call others expendable! Life is precious, you know.." she said, for the first time showing a small hint of anger. What was up with this indifferent attitude? And what did he mean by clocks? She had never taken a life, nor would she ever want to.
"What do you mean by fixing clocks?" she finally asked, not understanding that statement at all. Out of everything she'd heard so far, that was the most confusing thing.
"Mm hm," Bandi hummed in affirmation to her first question. Her following statement reminded him of stories Grandpa Boris told about Alice when she first appeared in Wonderland. So did the outburst that followed, though for the present he was a bit too shocked by the suddenness of it to recall those parts of the story.
"You'll find few share that sentiment, here in this world," he said with a shrug after a few moments of bemused silence. "None would share the sentiment, if it weren't Outlanders poking their noses in. As for your other question..."
Now his smile took on a touch of impish mischief. He stood up straight, back on the path, and opened his arms a little in invitation. "If you want an answer, you'll have to come a lot closer. Don't worry-," he tucked away the knife in a special pocket sewn into his pant leg, "-I won't bite if you don't."
A warm, purple blush spread across Aeolai's face as his expression changed. Darn it, there was just something about this fellow that threw her off, something she couldn't put her finger on.. he was intriguing, and at the same time alarming. She couldn't understand a world where lives had no meaning to the inhabitants. Were she her sister, she would have had no qualms about trying to devour this person she was facing, if he actually was a dream.
Which was more and more unclear every moment she spent in this strange place. At least he finally put away his weapons.. so maybe he didn't actually mean her harm?
She didn't know whether to trust this stranger though.. But at the same time his expression and overall countenance were extremely enticing as soon as he seemed to put some effort into it. With a bit of a wary glare, the female took careful, small steps towards him, her heart rate speeding up as she tried to figure out what he was planning. Would he attack her when she dropped her guard? Would she be fast enough to dodge?
Bandi waited with patience. He could afford to be, and history had long proven the benefit of it. All his actions were weighed against potential gain before he undertook them. Both were obviously taking a risk in trusting the other. She hadn't admitted it in so many words, but he could tell from her attitude and the way she watched his weapons that the possibility of death meant something more to Aeolai than it did to him. He, on the other hand, knew only that she was an eater of dreams, and while he wasn't sure they were exactly a dream the rules seemed to apply just enough that she could enter this world. Who knew, maybe being eaten would be a permanent death for one from this world? In terms of gain this move seemed to obviously benefit Aeolai, who got a question answered, where he seemed to get nothing from the venture but risk.
Seemed. That was the key word here. Bandi found this woman to be...interesting. Certainly new and already not like anyone else in Outside that he had met before. Her power was also intriguing, but not for the obvious reasons. Theoretically speaking even if she could eat their world it wouldn't matter. If she ate individuals, even if that permanently removed them from the game, the roles would still be fulfilled through others. If she ate their entire world, it would be like destroying the game completely. Perhaps they'd all die, perhaps some of them could escape to Outside, but regardless the Outside world was too boring and predictable, and not at all "fun", so that outcome was not desirable. There were so many variables to consider, but unless this woman could be subtly manipulated into them there was no point in even trying. Besides, Bandi was content in his position as neither Roleholder nor Faceless. Perhaps it was just the fact that she /could/ potentially do quite a bit of damage that intrigued him. Just like he could. But they didn't, because they wanted to see the game played out. Absolutely fascinating! So no, the gain here for Bandi was not power, but that in "lowering" his guard and putting forth this show of trust, he might win this female over as a potential ally. If nothing else, should she become a game piece on this board or more like her showed up, he'd have an advantage of knowledge.
So he waited patiently, weapons sheathed, palms facing up, arms held out a couple inches from his body to reassure that he was holding nothing. His posture was (deceptively) relaxed, his smile friendly and inviting though the set of his mouth still held some mischief about it. His bright red eyes watched Aeolai's approach intently, intense and maybe a touch cocky, as though he had set a dare he knew she would balk at.
She swallowed hard, feeling her heart rate pick up more with every step, her deer-like ears moving about anxiously as she weighed his actions and words in her mind. She didn't understand her setting at all, still, and the fact also remained that nobody had ever really.. approached her in this sort of manner. She was a rather withdrawn individual, so attention was oddly flattering to her.
Her garnet eyes kept peering suspiciously from underneath her white hair, and as she drew closer, soon she bit down on her bottom lip. Her hands were clenched into tight fists inside her sleeves, crunching up the fabric of her dress hem as well.
Whatever this game was that he was playing, it was stupid, and she didn't want to give him the pleasure of having the upper hand. Normally timid, something about this male simply brought out a more defiant streak in Aeolai.
In the end, the building pressure made her break though. Just as she had stepped within his reach, she flinched and took a step back. "Wh-what are you playing at?" she said accusingly, obviously flustered.
Bandi's grin held more than just a trace of mischief now. Not maliciously so, of course, but more like the kind of someone who has grown up with siblings and knows when one is causing a bit of torment.
"That's something you'll have to figure out on your own. We're all playing games here. For now, I'm answering your question, just in my own way." He cocked his head to the side, raven hair spilling over amaranth-colored eyes. "To take your next step forward in the game, you have to decide if you want to trust me or suspect me."
Aeolai gritted her teeth, her ears trembling from her frustration now. This wasn't funny. Why was she letting herself be aggravated like this? What on earth was going through this guy's mind? She just couldn't make any sense of it. At all.
Trembling in place for a moment, she finally closed her eyes, taking a deep breath. Releasing her grip on her clothing, she finally took the last few steps up to him, standing some mere inches away. Being taller than the average female, she nearly matched him in height as she kept eyeing him suspiciously. "There.. satisfied?" she hissed behind her small scowl.
Bandi nearly chuckled. Nearly. It was a close catch. Now that they were standing so near though, he thought it might be best to behave. Moderately speaking. "Almost," he said. Without any hesitation or shyness he reached up and took Aeolai's head between his hands, palms pressing feather light against her cheeks, and drew her head down so that it was pressed with an ear to his chest. He was very careful not to hurt her, but since he expected at least a start of surprise if not full on refusal to move, he also kept his touch firm.
"Take a listen, tell me what you hear," he said, feeling the rumble of his voice in his chest. Must be cause someone was touching him there. He'd never done this before, so had no idea that could make a difference. Not much use for that, but he filed the observation away anyway, just in case.
She couldn't help but blink and stare in wonder for a few moments. Never, in her wildest dreams, would she even have imagined a person to have a clock inside their chest. It seemed simply outrageous. But she had heard it, clear as day. And it baffled her.
Without even thinking, she held a hand to her own chest, feeling her beating heart. Her other hand, she placed on Bandi's chest, and all she could feel was the rhythmic ticking of the clock within, completely different from her own heart. "But.. if you die and your clock is fixed.. will it still be you? Will you still have your memories?" she asked, her voice agitated. If not, that was awful! Why would they treat death with such a careless attitude, if they were gone for good once they died? Nobody could truly replace them.
Bandi tilted his head. Aeolai's agitation was honestly confusing to him. He'd never personally heard someone have this kind of reaction before. "What's the problem," he asked with honest puzzlement. "If someone dies, they die. Their hearts can be fixed if they get broken." He tilted his head back to look up at the leafy branches of the tree behind him, hand to the chin in thought. "I suppose the person who comes back wouldn't be the same." He looked back down and shrugged carelessly. "It's not a huge deal. That's what's considered normal here."
Her ears flicked back, and she blinked in disbelief. How could someone honestly be so nonchalant about death? Even she took much care in not harming anyone when devouring dreams! Her elder sister had a much more laid back attitude, whereas she.. could spend hours or even days searching for a suitable dream to sustain herself on.
She drew back her hand, mouth agape for a passing moment before her agitation took over again. "How can that be normal?! What's the point of fixing clocks if it won't bring you back as the same person you were? That's just not right! Your life is precious and you should treat it as such", she said, her voice growing slightly shrill. This was simply inconceivable!
Bandi looked startled by the complete vehemence with which Aeolai spoke. Even when his mother got upset she never seemed to react so strongly. Perhaps because her first instinct was to heal, and that tired her out pretty quickly. He'd never asked Dee or Dum if she'd scolded them in a similar manner before. He doubted it would have done much good if she had; his fathers were highly childish, more so even than Grandpa Boris, and regarded their games as great fun. Anything spoken on the subject would probably have been ignored since only Marise was breakable. Even mother Keris was fixable. They were all strong though, and even if they got bloodied in their games it didn't matter. The wounds usually vanished quickly.
The sky suddenly turned morning bright. Bandi raised a hand and scratched his head. "I don't really understand," he confessed, not sure how to deal with such a foreign attitude. "The point it that the roles are filled. Even if people die there are endless replacements. Even for Roleholders, but they're strong so they can take care of themselves." He cast Aeolai a puzzled look. "Why would you care if I died, or anyone else from this world?"
Aeolai's ears were pinned back and she placed her hands on her hips with a bit of a huff. What a strange place she had ended up in, indeed! She was too tired at this point to even leave, so she'd be forced to stick around until she either got enough rest or found something to feed on. This whole talk about Roleholders, Faceless, clock hearts and the like was so confusing to her, but at least little by little, as she spoke with Bandersnatch, things were starting to make even a tiny bit more sense.
"Nobody is replaceable! I don't get this talk about roles and whatnot, but if it's not the same person, it's awful! What about all the memories you've shared with those you hold close? Those will all disappear. And surely someone will grieve if you were to die! That can't be so different from my world", she insisted, hair falling on her face as she leaned forward slightly to emphasize how serious she was about this. "You should be more careful with your clock! Sure, the thing itself may be fixable, but /you/ aren't."
Bandi thought about it for a moment. "Well," he said slowly, drawing it out a bit as he thought things through, "I suppose Mother might. She's Outsider too, so she thinks about things differently. Mom and my dads might be upset, but it could be cause someone killed one of their children or because I was too weak to properly defend myself. They might be sad cause "Bandersnatch" is gone, but as long as I can come back I can always relearn games in such." He wasn't certain how they'd think, actually. Maybe once he'd have been sure, but who knew how their thoughts changed day to day.
"My siblings, maybe," he added, though that was another uncertain. "I don't think anyone else would notice."
She crossed her arms, pouting slightly with her ears pinned back. If course his own family would miss him, it was ridiculous to think otherwise! Whether one had a clock or an actual heart, a person was still an individual, one of a kind, and nobody could replace them. But wait.. he said 'mother', 'mom' and.. 'dads'? What on earth?
"You.. have two sets of parents?" she then asked, again her confusion apparent in her voice. "Of course your own family would miss you, since you'd be gone forever!" This whole world seemed so absurd in its ways, yet at the same time, in a strange way she was intrigued by how crazy and backwards everything seemed to her.
Bandi's fingers itched to pull out his kunai and twirl it. He liked to keep his hands busy when he thought. Perhaps it was also subconscious, having a weapon in his hands and at the ready during the times he could be considered distracted. Well, he was pretty sure Aeolai would get all jumpy if he brought out his kunai again, and he also liked keeping some secrets of his skills. It was always best to be underestimated!
"Of course," he replied easily to her question. It didn't seem at all odd to him. He knew, technically speaking and all that, it wasn't really true, but who needed technical in Wonderland? It might as well have been the truth, so truth he treated it as. "My fathers are the Bloody Twins. My mom is a descendant of the Cheshire Cat. My mother is an Outsider." He shrugged lightly. "I think Mother would be most upset, but Mom and Dads would be as upset for the lose of a trained individual, I think, than because I personally am dead." His grin held a hint of blood-thirst to it. "The game they play with the one who theoretically kills me would be most fun indeed. It would be a shame I would miss it." Then the expression with another shrug. "But I am thinking this is not likely to happen. To kill me would take more power than more but a handful here have."
Aeolai just couldn't wrap her head around this strange concept. She knew she would be devastated if her sister died. Sure, they were far apart now, but she could always sense Ooarai. Sensed that she was alive. That was all, but it was enough for her. Just knowing they were both alive and healthy, they could always meet each other when they really wanted. But if you died... that possibility is taken forever. Even if this.. clock-heart was repaired and the person 'came back'.. apparently they weren't the same they were previously, and that, to her, was the exact same as dying in her own world. It just wasn't right. "Just think about how sad and lonely it would make your mother if you were lost forever.. you should be careful and value your own life!" she said in a slightly more forceful tone, as it really was something every living thing would normally feel. "Maybe you're strong, but you still have to always be on guard.. and that seems so wrong. How are you supposed to enjoy your life under constant threat?"
"I'm having fun right now," Bandi replied with an easy grin. "I always manage to have fun, though you probably wouldn't enjoy some of the games my family plays." His expression grew thoughtful. "I suppose I can see your point. Not that I have any intention of dying, but if it makes you feel better I can promise to be more careful." With another mercurial change of facial expression he was grinning again, and stepped into the path with arms held wide as though taking in the whole of Wonderland. "Want me to show you around a bit? We can go in the Clock Tower, as long as we don't bug Julius or make a mess he doesn't care much. Or I can show you where the Matter Mansion is. That's where I live with my family, though they aren't there at the moment. We could also go to the Amusement Park, but there's a ton of people over there fussing over the owner's new kids so it'll probably be boring right now." His eyes sparkled at the thought of being able to show Aeolai his home. Having an Outsider as a friend could be a useful thing, and she was entertaining so far. "There's even swimming holes or stuff like that, if you don't want to see just places. Anywhere is fine!"
