When Juugou responded to him mentioning to use his insects to track them down, the younger boy admitted to already placing bugs on each of the their clothing, in order to have the other insects track their kin down, and easily find the enemies. Haikyo was taken aback, once again, by the simplicity in which Juugou could achieve great results. It seemed effortless for the boy. Haikyo would have spent hours running around the city streets looking for thieves, if he ever found them at all. But, Juugou was able to identify and track their locations without having to move a damn muscle. Incredible. Simply incredible. As he ran up the wall to begin searching for the insects' sign, Juugou explained that they were releasing pheromones, and that was how the other insects would be able to follow behind them. It made sense, at the very least. Use the insect's natural abilities to their greatest strengths. It would seem Juugou's tracking skills would come in incredibly handy in the years to come. If he was already able to do something like this at his level, Haikyo couldn't imagine the things he would be capable of when he had grown to be a powerful ninja.

When Haikyo had set himself up near the water tower, Juugou made his way to the rooftops as well, clambering up the wall with a little more difficulty than Haikyo had had. But, it only made sense. Haikyo was a physical man. He had pushed most of his training into his body--of course these sorts of feats would be easy for him. Juugou would be able to out-think and out-prepare him any day, though. That was for certain. Haikyo was simple-minded and direct. He did not care if he was seen through--his goal was to be so fast that it did not matter if you saw it or not. Juugou mentioned that they had split up as he indicated the two separate swarms of insects, whirling in the infinity shape. Haikyo almost chuckled. It was awesome...he would have to see what kind of shapes Juugou could create. Maybe next time he would ask for--jesus, there was no time for that. They needed to get going. when Juugou called him 'glow stick' again, Haikyo didn't bother putting up a fight about it...it was leagues better than Dog Whisperer, at the very least. "Well, I should hope that is your intent. I have no need to worry about you, against a single opponent. You're wit and skill will keep you safe. Just try not to worry about me too much. After all, captain, you're throwing me to the dogs!" He said with a laugh, obviously joking with the boy about being sent after the two men instead of the one. It was, after all, the obvious choice, given their individual talents.

As Juugou darted off to the left, headed over toward one of the infinity signs, rotating in the air, Haikyo grinned. He darted off as well, heading directly toward the pair of shinobi on the other side. They couldn't be allowed to leave. His feet pounded against the rooftops as he raced toward his target--the insects still forming the infinity sign, but smaller, as some of them had taken to attacking the two men beneath them--keeping them more than well enough distracted as Haikyo landed on the street, not ten feet from where they were. Immediately after Haikyo landed the infinity sign dissipated and collapsed on the two men, increasing the chaos of it. This was the moment for him to strike! He dashed forward just as a glowing red ember appeared in front of him, and his eyes widened as he realized what was happening too late. The Grand Fireball Jutsu exploded in front of him, the blast of fire enveloped the small alley that they were in, roasting a chunk of the insects that had been helping him, and Haikyo immediately attempted to bound off of the wall and get to higher ground, but he could not outrun the blast when he was already off kilter from running directly toward it. Even as he jumped, the blast hit his legs the force causing his body to contort, flipping and sending him back to the ground with a vicious thud. He hit the ground, his legs burned from the blast and winced as he felt the shooting sensation up his calves and thighs.

His robe had caught fire in a couple of places, but he put it out, leaving the ragged peasant clothing even more tattered. Haikyo bit his lip as he pushed his body up, but when he raised his eyes from the floor, slightly dazed from the fall, his vision was instantly blackened as one of the Shinobi struck out in a vicious kick, landing a blow directly to Haikyo's forehead. There was a strange scent flooding his nostrils as he was coming to, and he found his head swimming when he tried to look straight ahead. There was a throbbing in his shoulders that he couldn't really place. What was going on? Why was his head so fuz--oh s**t! The thieves! His eyes snapped open as he looked ahead of himself, his frantic mind jump-starting his body. The first thing he noticed was the pain radiating from his shoulders, and then he realized that he couldn't move his arms. He bit his lip as he looked over at them, the tips of two kunai protruded from them, pinning him to the wall behind him. "The smelling salts worked. He's up." The first man stated, his voice like silk. Haikyo attempted to struggle forward as the men spoke, but the second man slammed a hand around his throat, holding him back against the wall. "If you like those legs of yours, mate, I'd keep yourself still, and quiet."

Haikyo glared back at the man, narrowing his eyes. "What are you trying to steal from Grunnard?" He asked, plainly, completely ignoring the man's threats. The man almost laughed, snickering to himself before whipping around and slamming his fist into the side of Haikyo's head, snapping the man's head to the side from the force, and leaving him dazed once again. "I told you to shut your god damn yap, kid. We'll be asking the questions. Now. Where's your partner?" Haikyo laughed as he looked at the other two. "Right now? He's busy subduing the other one of you goons. Probably done, actually, you don't seem all that toug--" The fist struck the side of his face once again and he tasted copper in his mouth. These guys weren't playing...there was something serious going on here. Haikyo kept his eyes dead locked on to the man in front of him, as his hands clasped together, forming a seal. "Now. You're going to signal your partner to come on out to meet ya. Then, when he gets here, he's going to give us the scroll that he's forced our friend to part with." Haikyo almost burst out laughing...he knew that Juugou would be fine. But it was one hell of a predicament for himself...he had really screwed this whole thing up. Just like the cat. But Juugou was there to pick up his slack...this time was different. This time he was alone.

His hands folded into the last seal that he needed, activating his soul skin, and he looked at the man dead in the eyes as he knew now that he had the edge. They had not noticed him. Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth, from being punched in the face, and the strain from his shoulders being pinned to the wall for this long was starting to really drag. "Come on! We're running late. If we don't get out of here soon, we'll be caught!" The first man spoke. Haikyo embedded the memory of the man's voice, that silk smooth tone, alongside the gravelly sound of the second man's. "So your partner has been beaten, and Juugou's recovered his scroll. That means he is not imprisoned, like me, and that you two hold no leverage. And you think, in your position, I would abandon my honor and betray my comrade? My friend? You might as well kill me." Haikyo growled as he looked at the man, trying to bait him. "Well, I s'pose you're right, huh? You've got no use to us if you a'int gunna help." The man growled. In a quick motion he ripped one of the kunai out of Haikyo's shoulder and then swung it directly across Haikyo's throat. It was too fast to avoid...so he had to do nothing but trust in himself, and his own strength. Which he did. He always did. Like he had told Juugou. There was no version of time that he failed--he just did things with all of his heart, and all of the belief that he would succeed.

The knife hit his throat hard, and the pressure was painful, but the green light exploded across his neck, laser-like trails appearing across his skin as the soul skin activated. The man, after swinging the knife, had already believed the job was done, and along with swinging it across Haikyo's neck, he had already started turning to leave during the attack, not thinking there was any way the injured genin could possibly avoid the strike. But, when he felt the resistance against the blade, his head snapped back immediately to see the green light emit and he hopped away from Haikyo, knowing that he had been too cocky with the teenager. "You see...now that I know you don't have my partner prisoner, like you had me...I see very little reason to hold back." Haikyo growled. He had not immediately tried to break free, because he had figured if they had Juugou, they might have killed him if Haikyo didn't cooperate. But, these idiots did not play their cards right. "s**t! We don't have time for this. The others are waiting." Annoyance stained the silken man's voice. "You go on ahead. I've got some unfinished business." "So malicious. The small-fry are not important." "Aye, but this one just won't listen...I hate weak fools who can't just recognize their place."

Haikyo had to admit, he disliked being talked down to in such a manner. He knew that he was new to this whole 'shinobi' life. He knew that he wasn't exactly the strongest person around, sure, but he wasn't just a weakling to scoff at. He just took a deep breath as he stood there, breathing heavily already from the sheer adrenaline of having almost had his throat slit. If it were not for Juugou's training, he would be dead right now...but then again, if it weren't for Juugou's friend, Grunnard, he wouldn't have had his shoulders pinned to a damn wall with kunai either. "I apologize, but neither of you are going anywhere. I was tasked to retrieve these scrolls, and it would do no good to return empty handed." Haikyo stated, taking a position in the center of the alley. The first man, with the soft voice, cursed under his breath, immediately attempting to retreat toward the edge of the village. However, Haikyo would not allow such a retreat. The gruff man dashed forward, as the first one retreated, and Haikyo breathed deeply as he prepared himself. He was getting angry...and for the son of the head of their family...anger was a dangerous thing. Their blood, after all, held much darker things than many people ever got to know. As the man swung his kunai at Haikyo once again, Haikyo stepped back from him slightly and leaned forward, allowing his face to become the prime target. The man only seemed more angry at this and swung even harder, but when it got in close Haikyo snapped forward, his teeth catching the blade. It was almost not enough to hold it, but when the blade hit the edge of his mouth, it activated the soul skin, keeping it from tearing through his cheek. When Haikyo looked up at the man, his eyes were black as night, and smiled ever so slightly. With a swift chomp, the kunai shattered between his teeth, and the man backed away from Haikyo, his hands in the air. "What are y-y-you....a demon?" "How dare you!" Haikyo bellowed. "I...am a god." His hand launched forward in a vicious strike that landed in the man's gut, sending him stumbling backward. Then, immediately, Haikyo swung his opposite arm down, his fingers poised in a 'tiger' stance, rigid and ready. As his hand blew across the man's face, his fingers took swaths out of his skin, and the man screamed out in agony. A strange presence seemed to hover around Haikyo, a darkness--something that a trained shinobi, like this man, could feel instantly, and he shrank backward away from it.

Fear etched across the man's face, his partner already long gone. Blood flowed from the cuts across the man's face, from Haikyo's clawed strike, and the man whimpered as he looked up at the genin. "Y-y-you're crazy!" The man shrieked, and as Haikyo came toward him his arm pulled back to deliver another strike, the man's body seemed to evaporate, collapsing in on itself and disappearing, leaving nothing but the clothes he had been wearing, and then his shadow slithered away across the ground, disappearing into the darkness. Haikyo's hand snatched up the clothes instead, though he had meant to claw across the man's gut and open up him. How beautiful the sight would have been--the b*****d who had dared speak to him that way, opened up for the world to see. Haikyo's teeth clenched, and as the anger faded from his body, the darkness withdrew from him and he felt his body seem to burn from the inside with the blood of the Yomi active beneath his skin. The clothing he held in his hand, now, was weighted by the scroll tied to the belt, and he grinned as he cut it loose and pocketed it, immediately dashing after the man who had withdrawn first. Haikyo could see him scaling the nearest village wall--headed up to the top of the structure to climb over, no doubt. Haikyo had very little time. He closed his eyes and he used the little strength he had left to activate the soul energy in his muscles. He would need to propel himself at one hell of a speed if he was going to catch this other fool. His feet pounded against the ground; it felt like every step he took pushed a new wave of blood out of his shoulders, and he felt his mouth getting dry. 'Not yet. Just a little further.' By the time he took his first steps up the wall, the man was already three quarters of the way up--but Haikyo was moving one hell of a lot faster at this point. His arms swung full force as he ran--a green speck of lightning shooting up the building before he reached out at the last moment--the man already leaping over the side of the wall, and he caught the fabric of the man's shirt, pulling him back full force and slamming him onto the top of the wall.

"You should have just let it go, kid. Now...now they know who you are." The velvet voiced man spoke, fear in his eyes. Haikyo knew that the man was not afraid of him--he was afraid of something...someone else. Haikyo was about to ask him what the man was talking about, as he made it to his feet and they stood opposite one another, but before he could speak the other man launched himself at Haikyo, his hands striking out in a flurry of blows. Haikyo deflected what he could, turning the strikes aside with his own martial skill, but one in three of the strikes still made it through, slamming into his body with incredible force. This man had been the one who had used the fireball--obviously a skilled ninjutsu user. However, his taijutsu was frighteningly strong as well. Who was he afraid of? Haikyo knew there was only one way of opening the man up...and that was to take one of his stronger hits dead on, giving him a short window where he would have to pull back from the heavy strike. As the man threw a vicious hook toward Haikyo's ribs he threw his body into it, taking the blow full force and giving himself the single second opening he needed. It was time to test something--something he had hoped would work ever since he had experienced his own body being drained by Juugou's insects. He filled his palm with soul energy and chakra and he thrust it at the man with all of his strength, sending the chakra in his hand into the man's body upon impact and then with all of his might, pulling the energy back toward himself. It was just as he had hoped it would work, in practice! The energy came back to his hand, and it attached itself to the similar chakra energies within the enemy's body, pulling some of the man's reserves with it, weakening his body further. After that, his attacks seemed to get a little slower, and Haikyo managed to dodge and turn aside more of them, landing a few of his own strikes as they fought on the wall-top. But, as soon as he had seemed to gain the advantage, the velvet-tongued b*****d stopped in his tracks. Haikyo was about to land a blow, but he stopped, recognizing immediately that the man was not even attempting to defend himself. "What's the big ide--" The man gasped suddenly and clutched his chest, choking on his own blood. He hit the floor, dead, within moments, and as Haikyo looked over the edge of the wall, he could see a man, flanked by multiple others, waiting a few hundred meters away from the village walls, who turned their backs and walked away, seeming to vanish after a few moments. Haikyo did not doubt for a second that they had just executed their own man.

Haikyo's head was swimming by this point--dizzy from the loss of blood and the weight of calling on his blood. Having utilized the ancient art of shattering the blade with one's teeth...his body was exhausted. It was something the elders of his clan were able to do--something they could do very efficiently. It was said, in a single battle, there was a man in their clan who broke the blades of a hundred men with his teeth alone. Though, those were just legends, and a Yomi with as little training as Haikyo...it was something he should never have even tried. It was unsafe to play with the treacherous entity that lived within the Yomi blood. After he had gotten himself together, feeling less woozy, he managed to stand back up and begin making his way through the village. The third scroll was still on the man's body, and he pocketed it with the first he had taken. Though, this time, there was a little extra to carry. The velvet-tongued b*****d was dead...by his own people...and here his body was. It was dark, and few people were out and about, but those who did walk past gave a wide birth, considering he was beaten to s**t and had a dead man slung over his shoulder. When he finally made it back to where Juugou's bugs had been originally, he found Juugou there, slumped against the wall. Haikyo, upon seeing the younger ninja in that state, noticed the cuts on his ear and the shuriken in his arm. Haikyo immediately dropped the body of the man he had been carrying, and ran to the young boy's side. "Are you okay!?" He asked, checking him over, though he could barely lift his own arms. He saw the swelling in the boy's arm from the poison working its way through his system, and he bit his lip, worried for the boy. "Those fools I was sent after let it slip that you had gotten your scroll. Congratulations. I knew you'd be able to do it, though it looks like you're a little worse for wear. They barely even landed a hit on me." Haikyo stated, though his voice was laced equally with confidence and sarcasm. His face was swollen, there were two puncture holes in his shoulders from the blades having pinned him to the wall. His ribs were cracked on his left side, making it difficult to walk, and his breathing was ragged. His body was also taxed, burning from the inside, just from that few moments of feeling Amanozako's strength. In short...he looked like s**t.

"I managed to get the scrolls off of the two shinobi. One of them escaped...turned into a damn shadow and slithered off. This one, I caught just before he went over the wall..." He stated, motioning to the body on the ground behind him. "The poor b*****d was killed by his own people...I think. I almost beat him down, and when I was about to subdue him, he...just died. I saw a few people outside the village...but they disappeared...either way, that stuff can wait. We've got to get you somewhere safe. Does Grunnard-sensei know anything about healing? Or where can we find the closest medic?" Haikyo asked, obviously worried about the boy. "I can carry you wherever we need, if you have not the strength to walk, just let me know where we need to go." He stated, just wanting to get the boy to safety.

Yu confirmed the genin's question, "Let's move." He lead the trio up into the trees, and they moved into their position. On the road to Konoha, there was heavy woods on both sides, and their squad would take the north side. Yu pressed the earpiece and kept watch, eyes wide but unfocused. It was clear that he was listening intently to the static and talk on the other side.

Hajime had kept up the best he could, but he was not fast, and was fairly new to this tree branch hopping thing. It wasn't a skill that they taught at the Fire Temple Academy, but his earlier success in wall-walking helped him in spades here. Trees were far more giving than walls, but Hajime was quick to conform to their needs, using less chakra to adhere to the barck than he did for the walls. Hajime allowed his sedge cap to rest on his upper back, not wanting it to get in the way of his movement, nor his remote earpiece. As they waited, the monk slowed his breathing, and silently counted prayers on his prayer beads. This was a tense moment, but he had to stay calm.

Minutes passed like hours up in the trees. Static hissed over the radio, and was occasionally broken by a report. Numbers, movement, trajectory, confirmations. Apparently, someone in the group was Hyuuga- they could identify people in with the shipment with chakra comparable to a genin or chuunin. Yu shook his head, "This doesn't look great. Sounds a bit above your pay grade, honestly."

"We're going in," crackled the radio. Distantly, the quartet heard yells and erupting flames- someone used a Fireball jutsu. Following that, there was a whistling noise, an explosion, and red light. Dragon Napalm no Jutsu. These noises were carried over the air, and a little faster by the hissing earpieces. Suddenly, there was a yell, "Ninja with Water Ninjutsu! Backup team! Calling backup team!"

Yu made a motion with his hands, and quickly sprinted off towards the commotion. Hajime swayed on the branch then jumped forward clumsily, taking a few steps before he could carry that classic Leaf Ninja gait when they were travelling through their forests. In mere seconds, the woods opened up to a wide dusty road with a wagon in the center. It seemed like the wagon was supposed to be covered, but that'd been burned away. Instead, there was a ninja with pinstripe pants, dark hair, and a sharpened jian standing in the middle of the cart. There were goods burning at his feet- beneath them were piles of precious contraband metal in steely ingots. Around the ninja and cart was a circle of water, and four tentacles of water whipped wildly around the cart, protecting the cargo from intruders until help might arrive.

Juugou had kept his insects circling around the thief's garments for another five minutes until he was certain that he was gone before recalling his insects. The genin rose slowly, careful to avoid agitating the pair of shuriken embedded in his arm, and made his way over to the discarded clothes. He reached down and picked up the scroll, pulling up the belt by the string that attached the two. After loosening the knot and separating the scroll from the thief's clothes Juugou looked studied the sealed document and wondered what was so important that such dangerous men would infiltrate the village just to steal them. I could've been killed! Grunnard-sensei owes me some kind of explanation as to what's going on... As Juugou took a step heading back toward the street where Grunnard had run into them he became aware of the growing numbness in his right arm. He looked down at his hand and noted that it looked puffy. It was when he glanced up at his forearm when his heart rate began to quicken. It was beginning to swell considerably. The pain was no longer there, just an odd numbness that spread from the wounds... No... It can't be... Poison?! The realization made his heart sink and he staggered, falling to his knees. Juugou used his good arm to crawl to a shop with darkened windows and sit against the wall. His insects would do what they could to slow the progress of the poison to the rest of his body, but now that he had become aware of the fact, the anxiety was raising his heart rate and allowing the toxins to circulate. Just relax, the young Aburame reassured himself, Haikyo will be back with the other scrolls soon enough, and he'll be able to get some help. He then worked to calm his mind and breathe slower to bring down his heart rate.

It was about another hour before Haikyo happened upon Juugou sitting against the outer wall of the store. At this point in time the Aburame's vision was spotty and slightly blurred. He smiled at his team mate's doting and replied hoarsely, "Yeah, i'm fine. Turns out that i got poisoned as a result of my efforts, but my insects have been holding back the spread of whatever toxin the thief laced these shuriken with." He gestured with his head at the shuriken, now embedded deeper into his forearm due to the swelling. Juugou turned to look at Haikyo. Despite his vision being distorted he could make out that the Yomi's face looked lumpier than it should. Juugou chuckled, though doing so made him wince. "You look like you've seen better days yourself, buddy. I'm guessing you were able to get the scrolls from the other two?" asked the young Aburame, expecting to see the remaining scrolsl due to how pleased Haikyo sounded as he spoke.

Haikyo affirmed this, recounting his bout with the thieves. The first one he engaged had pulled an escape identical to the thief Juugou had trapped. The second one was about to make his escape when the Yomi caught him atop the wall and forced him to fight. Unfortunately for the thief it appeared as if his colleagues killed him. Juugou looked over at where Haikyo dropped the body and shook his head. The older genin then began to ask him if Grunnard was knowledgeable in the healing arts, and if there were any medics around the area. Just as he was about to answer, the scroll in his hand began to glow in bright glyphs and began to float on its own, tugging at his grip until it released itself from the Aburame's hold. At the same time, the scrolls in Haikyo's robes began to glow and and float over to the one Juugou had. When the three had come together, the glyphs on the scrolls began to separate from them and arrange themselves on the floor a few feet away in what Juugou recognized as a summoning formula. As soon as the last glyph touched down, there was an explosion of smoke as something was summoned. When the smoke cleared, three individuals were standing in a group.

Description: The trio of thieves have been foiled and the scrolls recovered. Debrief with Grunnard and Eustace

The first wore a dark brown uniform with knee-high soldier's boots and a trench coat over it. Juugou's eyes lit up and he smiled immediately recognizing who it was. "Grunnard-sensei!" he exclaimed, not being able to do much more in his current condition. Grunnard began to jog over to the younger genin.
"Oh, Juugou... I'm so sorry-" he began, but the second man cut him off.
"That can wait, Grunnard. These two need medical attention right away!" said the second man, who wore a white hooded robe with red trim and plain sandals. He had a large book tucked under his, which he hastily opened as he walked toward the two genin. "Look at you two! You're beyond a mess. It's a wonder you're still conscious!" The white-robed man set the book on the floor while descending on one knee, weaved a few hand seals and clapped his hands together.
"What are you doing?" asked Juugou as tendrils of light began to rise out of the open pages in the book. The older man smiled reassuringly.
"Removing the poison from your body, and the shuriken from your arm, young Juugou. You may feel a slight amount of discomfort, but nothing too extreme." The tendrils extended until they reached the younger genin's forearm and inserted themselves into his skin. There was no resistance at all, though there was a strange pressure as the tendrils visibly traveled up his blood vessels. "Now for you, young Haikyo, i will be applying first aid personally. You look like you were tortured by some demon in a pit of fire!" He ignited his hands in a golden chakra and rested them on the Yomi's shoulders, causing his body to glow in the same golden hue.

The third man was already looking over the corpse silently, checking over the clothing and the hidden items it had on it. This one was dressed more plainly compared to Grunnard and the medic, wearing a tattered coat over a plain forest green shirt, denim pants and brown boots. He turned his head to speak to Grunnard. "There's no mistake about it, Elder. This guy worked for Shadow Veil." Grunnard had been studying the shinobi shozoku left behind by the thief Juugou had stopped. He walked back toward the group, the clothes held in one hand.
"Good job, Apprentice Kaspian. Take one of the scrolls and report back to the Head Librarian. I will return after the business here is finished." The third man nodded.
"Yes, Elder. Right away!" he took one of the scrolls from where it was floating with the others, weaved a few hand seals and disappeared in a poof of smoke.

During this whole time, Juugou had been watching the tendrils darken as the poison passed out of his body through them. He could feel himself becoming more lucid an his vision returning to normal. Glancing over at Haikyo now caused his eyes to widen with concern. The Yomi's clothes were ripped and burned in many places, his legs were burnt and his shoulders were a mess, but the old man's healing jutsu seemed to be repairing the damage fairly well.
"Thank you for saving us, sir." he said, bowing his head. The old man chuckled.
"There's no need for that, young one. You two put yourselves and your lives at risk to recover those scrolls. Your actions also bought time for Old Grunnard here to call for our help. And forgive my rudeness. I am named Eustace." said the white-robed man, inclining his head and returning to his healing.
"I knew it was a rather tall order to give you two since you just graduated from the academy today, but i'm not as young as i used to be, and couldn't keep up with them. For that i truly apologize." he said, bowing his head low. Juugou had never seen Grunnard like this, and it made him really uncomfortable but he let his teacher express how he felt nonetheless. After a few seconds the old librarian lifted his head and looked from one genin to the other. "By any chance did either of you learn anything from the thieves?"

When Haikyo had first seen Juugou, his heart had stopped. The boy's eyes were glassed over, as if he were looking in front of himself, but seeing nothing at all. Had he been blinded? Had his ninja career been ended so soon? His questions were answered shortly after, when he told Haikyo that he had been poisoned--the shuriken in his arm had been laced with something. He had been intelligent enough, however, to use his insects to drain some of the poison. Perhaps some of his bugs would learn from the poison they ingested as well, as they had with his soul energy. He chuckled under his breath as Juugou mentioned that he had seen better days. The boy was making light, even as he was slowly dying from the poison in his veins. "Jeeze, if you can tell that I look bad with what little sight you've got right now, it must be a hell of a sight." Haikyo said, laughing it off. He had been fighting with the pain the entire time, but he was struggling to make sure that his comrade was safe, and okay, before he worried about his own wounds. Juugou's state was much more dire than his own, and as he recounted how he had gotten a hold of the scrolls, he also tried to rush his friend into telling him where the hell he could get him to some sort of medic. It was at this point that the scroll that Juugou had on his person began to glow, floating up into the air. Haikyo's eyes widened as he looked at it, and then he felt a strange pulling from within his robes. The two scrolls he had taken, tucking them away in the folds of his peasant clothing, suddenly began to glow from inside of his clothing. He opened the robe slightly, by the neck of the garment, and the scrolls came floating up and out, connecting to the scroll that Juugou had grabbed as well.

Moments after the three scrolls met, the glyphs on them immediately began to separate, spreading out across the floor in a large summoning circle on the ground. As soon as the glyphs had arranged themselves, the air exploded with smoke--very traditional of a summoning jutsu--and as it cleared down a little bit, three men appeared from the cloud. Juugou immediately recognized one of the men, though it took Haikyo a moment to discern that it was the same man that they had seen on the street. It had been dim lighting, so he hadn't gotten the best look at the man, but Juugou knew it was Grunnard right away. The man rushed over to Juugou's side and apologized, very sincerely, though he was cut off by a second man--a man with silver hair and priest-like robes. He carried a large book, and he seemed to be the medic of this team. As the man opened the massive tome, he began to preform hand seals, followed by tendrils of light escaping the pages, like something out of a Lovecraftian tale. At this point, the man removed the shuriken from Juugou's arm, as well as having the tendrils of light travel up the boy's arm, presumably for some sort of healing purpose. After he had set up the healing for Juugou, the man walked over to Haikyo, and his eyes widened as he looked at the man, speaking his name. How did this man know of him and his name? Grunnard...it had to have been Grunnard who had told him. Juugou had used his name when Grunnard had been present. As he stated that he would be giving his personal first aid, as well as the comment about being tortured, Haikyo managed a sniff of amusement. "Thank you, very much, for your kindness. I do not know what I would have done, for Juugou, had you not arrived." He stated, clapping his hands together, first to open palm, and bowing to the man before he began his healing.

The older man, in the robes, placed his hands on Haikyo's shoulders--glowing with his healing chakras, and then the glow spread throughout the entire body, leaving Haikyo basking in the golden light from the man's chakra. His entire body was flooded by the warmth of the man's heart, and Haikyo found himself smiling as he felt the soul of the man before him. Caring, even for a stranger. The puncture wound in his shoulders began to mend, allowing Haikyo's arms a bit more movement, and then he felt the skin beginning to freshen on his legs as well, the burn marks receding. All the while, the others spoke of some sort of Shadow Veil, and they called Grunnard 'Elder', instead of his name, or some sort of plain honorific. This suggested that Juugou's teacher was far more than he appeared. As he commanded the man who had been looking over the body of the fallen shinobi to return to the Library, wherever that was, the man agreed, moving back to where the scrolls were, and performing some seals, vanishing along with the scroll instantly. So...they were some sort of path back to their home base? Perhaps that was why Grunnard wanted them back so badly...the enemy would have a private doorway back to their own headquarters. That was an unfavorable situation at the very least. As Juugou's healing seemed to come to an end, his own healing was just getting to the point that it was starting to get somewhere. Juugou still witnessed a large extent of the damage done, though, and the boy looked heavily concerned. "They may have busted me up, but it wasn't important. You were poisoned. I could wait." He said, shooting Juugou a wink and another light chuckle.

When the man had finished the healing that he was doing, Haikyo's shoulder wounds were closed. They were still a little raw, but they were closed, and the inner workings had all been reattached and repaired. His legs, where the burns had been, were just a little red, though the color would fade as the cells repaired themselves. His face had returned to its normal shape--the swelling disappearing completely. Juugou thanked the man who was healing him, who eventually revealed that his name was Eustace. He explained that there was no need for the thanks, but Haikyo shook his head as he looked at the older gentleman. "You still kept us alive in a situation where we may have died. We owe you a debt of a gratitude." He stated with a deep nod. As Grunnard asked them if they had learned anything from the thieves, Haikyo scratched his chin. He hadn't exactly been thinking about learning all too much...which might have been a bad call, but he knew where his strengths lay. "Unfortunately...I failed to observe much more than you guys already know. The second combatant, who managed to escape, escaped in the form of a Shadow. The man who I brought back here, when he died, there were no outside variables. He died without anything touching him at all. So they either use some sort of suicide device, or it was someone with the ability to kill from inside...perhaps Fuuma? Though it could be many other things as well. They are part of an organization...to whom I was warned that they now know who I am...this Shadow Veil your comrade spoke of. This may seem out of line, but might I ask what this is all about? I was just pinned to a wall with knives through my shoulders, and, without being too presumptuous, I am a little curious as to why." He stated as he quirked a brow, looking at Grunnard in particular, as he was taking turns between looking at Haikyo and Juugou. He would listen for whatever information Grunnard could, or would offer to him. He wanted to know more about this, and then, he knew, when their conversations had ended, it would likely be time for Juugou and himself to rest for the night. It had, after all, been a hell of a day. Honestly, however, he couldn't bring himself to say he wasn't looking forward to what the next one might have in store.

Sai watched Yu and Hajime run off into the fray of the battle. Hanging back he placed a hand on Kaito's shoulder as looked to take off to assist the team. "Wait." A heavy sigh passed through his lips as he took in the sight of the battle that was playing out on the open field before him.

Their side was easily outnumbered. With three to four mercenaries for each leaf shinobi the odds were in their favor and if what their scouting team had noted was correct then for the most part the leaf forces were also under powered. A direct confrontation wouldn't do them well nor would an extended trade would do them any favors. "Tch.." Spitting to his side, he dropped from the branch he hung from and landed with a light thud on the ground below, his weight buckling him to a kneel. Grunting he pressed against his intercom, "Hajime! Pull back! Do not engage them, I repeat do not engage them!" He growled into the device.

The leaf's forces had attacked from the western side, coming from the side to block them off from the village itself. His current position was the southern side and that blocked off the cargo wagon from going that direction due to the thick forest, likewise the northern side was blocked off. That left the eastern side, the rode they had came from and where their backs currently faced. If the attack had been successful, the wagon would've had to retreat along that road and it would've made a chase an easy effort. However with the enemy's strength it was now the leaf's forces that were cornered and while the primary team was holding their own they would eventually be beaten back. His team was not strong enough to make a difference and the support team would likewise only be able to help so much.

The best option was to retreat. It would force the cargo to also retreat as they would not be able to breach the village anymore but that would defeat the purpose of the attack and the leaf would loose any chance of tracking the alloy anymore. "Kid, I need you to rush the man standing with the cargo. Wait for the right moment and make sure he gets off that wagon, I'll provide a single chance. You fail, I die, so get it done?" Sai's voice was stern as he met Kaito's eyes. With a finger back to the mic, "Hajime, leave Yu to assist them. Get to that wagon and get ready to assist Kaito."

With a rough shove to Kaito's back, Sai dashed along the treeline to circle around to the far side of the road. Laying himself prone, he held his position watching the attention of the man in the cart. The tentacles that wiped out were fast and they left trailing marks on the ground where they lashed. However they only attacked where the man was looking, they didn't seem to react to every motion around the cart. But if he was wrong, what he intended to do was suicide. Gritting his teeth, he crawled into the road before pausing to search for the drives seat of the wagon. There sat another man who was furtively trying to calm the two horses that were to pull the wagon. He paid no heed to the battle as their forces were steadily pushing back the leaf shinobi, a few of the mercenaries were slowly retreating back to the wagon.

Clicking his tongue, he rose to a crouch and began to sprint towards the wagon, keeping his body as low as possible to avoid being detected. "Now. Now, NOW!" He growled as soft as he could manage into the mic before fully running headlong towards the wagon. A few yards before making it a mercenary noticed his approach and yelled out to the man controlling the tentacles. A coldness washed over Sai as his eyes met the man's. Rage and surprise intermingled in the man's green eyes as he turned and directed a tentacle at Sai. With a cry, Sai threw himself to the air and pulled his limbs into his chest. Pain laced against his forearms and shoulders as the tentacle crashed into him and sent him spiraling. For what was an eternity the sky and the forest spun around him until he thudded heavily and darkness took hold of him.

He could feel the warmness of the sun against his skin, but his forehead felt cold and slick. Almost as if someone was pouring something onto him in his sleep. He almost wanted to growl at the fool who would dare disturb his rest but there was an unfamiliar weight on his chest. The need to scream was filling him, but he couldn't... he couldn't breathe, he was suffocating but how? He was sun bathing... but he could no longer feel the sun, a cool shadow had come to block it out.

Forcing his eyes open, Sai saw through blood stained eyes the man who had been calming the horses now leaned over the edge of the wagon to peer down at him. His eyes were wide and his mouth opening and closing as if he was trying to speak but words couldn't come out. Below his mouth a kunai dug deep into his throat, Sai's own hand holding it tight. "You're blocking my shade." Sai growled as he twisted it deeper before yanking it out and dragged the dying man out of the wagon. Pulling himself into the seat, he dropped himself as close to the horses as possible. 'Please don't let this be the way I die. Not like this... Mustering his last bit of strength he let loose a terrible scream that echoed across the field and slashed the flank of the nearest horse with the kunai. With a disturbingly shrill cry, both horses took off towards the village walls at a scary cadence. If the man was still on the wagon, he would regain control and kill Sai. If he wasn't, the horses would pitch to the wall and likely turn before hitting it but at the speed they were going the wagon would break off and crash... and Sai would likely die from the impact.

With a Sai, he rolled into the seat and watched the sky and tree tops roll past, a grin spreading across his lips. <********> He closed his eyes and hoped hell wasn't as bad as it sounded.

This mission was beginning to look like a losing battle, which didn't help Kaito with his nervousness. Hearing explosions and the fiery battlefield infront of him, Kaito would grit his teeth as both Yu and Hajime had made their move. Being inexperienced with this type of mission, Kaito honestly hadn't the slightest idea of how he was going to help. His first combat mission and everything was starting to go wrong. The boy was tense, he closed his eyes and took in a deep breath. Just opening opening his eyes, Sai had placed his hand on his shoulder to halt his movement while telling him to wait. "What?" Kaito looked quizzically at Sai trying to figure out what his angle was. Yu and the monk were quickly separating themselves from the Kaito and Sai, they weren't wasting any time dashing into the chaos.

These few seconds felt like ages, Kaito sat quiet as Sai began yelling into the headset for the monk advising him to turn back. Soon after, he'd explain his plan to the drunk. For the first time since he'd met the a*****e, this was the first time Kaito felt like Sai was actually acknowledging him as a human. Weirdly enough Kaito threw out a grin following the instructions, nodding towards the man. "This guys probably gonna kick my a**, but I'll make sure I get it done." By the sounds of it Sai would be distracting the man while Kaito and Hajime would be finishing him off.

Although this wasn't quite what was planned, as long as they'd return with the contraband the mission would technically be a success. The boy hopped down from the tree, dropping to one knee behind a large bush while Sai would get in position. While reaching into his pocket to prepare some kunai he'd scan the area making sure no obstacles would cut him off from meeting Sai at the cart. Surely Hajime was doing the same, as Kaito had lost track of where he'd move to while getting briefed. His heart was still pounding pretty heavily, the nervousness felt thick in his chest now. "Now! Now, NOW!" These words rang in his ear, his heart felt like it had sipped a beat for a second as he stood up watching as Sai charged the wagon. There was no more time to waste, this was his chance and he'd have to make this opportunity count or well.... Sai would probably get killed.

Gripping the three kunai in his right palm he'd also charge the cart. The dark haired man with the jian's attention was fully set on Sai now whom was basically making himself into a human target for the means of a distraction. Before his eyes Sai had thrown himself into the air like a target dummy, sacrificing his body for the sake of the distraction. One of the tentacles would crash into his body and send him spiraling back to the earth. This was the time to act though, Sai's plan although shitty and unconventional worked perfectly. Wasting no time, Kaito would follow up peppering the man with kunai. All three of the throwing knives connected one stuck in the mans rib cage while the other two dug into his leg, both just below the hip. A loud moan escaped the mans mouth as blood rapidly gushed from the puncture wounds, staining his pin stripped pants. His jian would drop the ground as he would catch himself from falling over by gripping the side of the cart. Kaito would waste no time before rearming himself with two more kunai once again. Both kunai whipped through the air aimed at the wounded mans head. With his leg being wounded dodging wasn't a real option at this point, thus he'd wrap his arms in front of his face to take the damage instead.

At this moment, the boy thought he'd surely had him. Kaito dashed the man, his eyes were locked on his target, he needed to jump in there and finish this guy off to save his a*****e teammate. The boy leaped into the air leading, his intentions were to drop his opponent with a heel drop from above. His nervousness turned into rage as a fire grew in his chest. Which was quickly put out, as he'd share the same fate as Sai had just moments before. The bloodied man had managed to react quickly enough to strike Kaito down with one of his tentacles. The genin quickly came crashing down landing on top of the precious metals. "********> Kaito attempted to roll over and pick himself up but was unable to do so. His vision was blurry, and upon breathing sharp pains ran up his sides while his right leg seemed to be busted up pretty bad as well. "I knew this plan was s**t..."

Hajime slowed his leaping when he realized that Sai held up. He looked over his shoulder, and heard the sigh in his ear. Something was different now- this wasn't a bratty child on the line- this seemed older. Sai's odd age was showing again. Hajime looked to Yu, who was charging in with or without them. This felt like mutiny, and, while he had no strong positive feelings for Yu... rather, he had a few negative ones... he did feel bad as he came to a halt. "What would I do, then, Sai?" The monk listened sharply, nodded, and replied, "Hm. Understood."

As Sai's plan unfolded, Hajime hesitated at the treeline. He sensed some bad fortune coming their way. That hesitation, it seemed, was just enough time for an action scene to explode into view. Glittering tentacles of water splashed through the air, as well as blades of steed and blood. Hajime ran parallel to the wagon and jumped forward. As if by magic, the cart started off, dashing towards the village, and the monk landed in the driver's seat with catlike grace. Kaito and Sai were in a real bad spot. Yu was too, although he wasn't on the wagon dashing headlong towards a brick wall. He raised an arm with his right arm and made a seal with his left. Despite the chaos around him, Hajime was calm. He inhaled through his nose, and exhaled through his mouth. The monk chanted, "Senzoku no Sai: Gods' Hand Grace"

The monk radiated with holy golden light, and he extended his arms. Delicate hands and robed arms extended outward from them and encompassed them with the light also. Hajime glanced back at the encroaching wall, then forward at the water-wielding ninja who seemed in shock. Hajime had no time to discern whether the shock was due to the danger of the quickly approaching wall nor the sudden appearance of a glowing hermit.

Hajime saw a sudden motion, and a whip of water knocked him aside with such force that, normally, he would have broken a few ribs. The golden light absorbed most of the blow, and the monk was able to keep on his feet as the enemy ninja rushed by him, grabbing for the reins.

Now, Hajime had never killed before this moment. However, given the opportunity, and the necessity, he saw this to be his chance. The young monk took a backstep, then wrapped his shining arms beneath the shinobi's shoulders, lifted him slightly, then bent forward, aiming the struggling enemy's head at the wall like a battering ram.

Stoicly, Hajime announced, "Prepare for impact. Have faith that we'll survive this one."

Calamity followed.

* * *

Hajime pulled himself from the wreckage, feeling weak, bruised, and battered. He was covered in things he didn't want to imagine. There was a lot of blood. Mostly human, but horse blood too. It glittered on his tunic, and tarnished his golden aura.

Once he was free from the wreckage, he looked to his two companions and pulled each of them out, were they pinned by wood and metal. His shimmering gilded hue faded away and he asked with sullen expression, "Sai? Kaito? Are you hurt? Do you require first aid?"

The sound of a child's laughter rung through the air. So light and pretty, a girl's voice calling out. The sweet smell of rain water filled the air. The warmth of the sun beat against his wet skin, it felt calming. Someone was talking to him, it felt distant yet so close. It was a woman's voice. Familiar and warm, a tightness coming to his chest as he nodded to her words. He turned to face her but found that he couldn't move easily. 'I KNOW!'

Sai bolted upright among the wreckage of the wagon, chips of wood and gore shifting around him as he did. Hand griping his chest, he gasped for air. A shiver rocked his body as he the clear image of a man's face, hollow and haunted with pain, crossed his vision before disappearing like a phantom. There was a coldness.. a ********> He grunted out as he spat blood and allowed himself to fall back into the wreckage. He was alive but he could that several of his ribs were cracked, his left arm dislocated and both legs were completely broken at the shins. He closed his eyes but the vision came back immediately and he reopened them instead. "I need a healer. My body is broken." Sai rumbled. For now he would keep still and wait until proper treatment could be brought to him. A glance to his side showed him what was left of the other man's body, a grin crossed his features momentarily at the sight. In the distance he could hear the battle continuing but it was growing distant. There would be no need for either side to continue the battle and both side would likely try to disengage with no true need or want to pursue. Soon the support team would arrive to carry off the supplies and to retrieve his team.

The golden glow began to fade from Haikyo, signaling that the healing was done. Juugou noted that the Yomi's wounds were mostly healed with a few raw spots at his shoulders and his legs. He sighed, glad that his team mate would not be sustaining any permanent damage from the earlier altercation with the Shadow Veil thieves. Juugou also marveled at Eustace's medical prowess, as it seemed to come as second nature to the old man. As the white-robed man rose slowly from his previous position behind Haikyo, the older genin affirmed that they owed Eustace a great debt due to him saving their lives. The man said nothing while he returned to the book that had spawned the chakra tendrils. After sitting cross-legged in front of it he turned to Haikyo and smiled.

"Think of it as a gift, young Haikyo. There are several years of youth left to you. Enjoy them while you can because once you get to be my age life loses a lot of it's color." After this the Yomi began to recount his fight with the two thieves. One had escaped in the same way as the one Juugou fought, by turning his body into a shadow. The second one had almost managed to escape, but Haikyo managed to stop him and kept him occupied until some outside force killed the man. Haikyo speculated that it could've been a Fuuma clan ninja that did it, but it was anyone's guess. The most important point was that the people in Shadow Veil knew who he was, which would be a big problem considering the nature of his heritage. Juugou took his chance to speak after Haikyo demanded answers.

"The thief i was fighting seemed to be able to create weapons from shadows. I captured him in a cage made from my insects but he managed to escape by becoming a shadow before i managed to take all of his chakra." he said, hanging his head in shame and frustration, "Before he escaped he mentioned something about a so-called "Great Purge" and the fall of the Archives being close at hand." Grunnard's face seemed to drain of all color hearing this news and combed his hand through his hair, lot in thought.

"Thank you both." he said after a few moments. The librarian took a deep breath and sighed after exchanging a quick look with Eustace. "Very well. It is only fair i told you. Eustace and i are members of the Archive, a great repository built after the Fourth Great Shinobi War. Its purpose is preserving the history of the ninja world: techniques, artifacts, clan secrets. There was fear that if another war broke out all of these things would be lost so the great nations sent their best scholars out to begin storing this information in secret in a secret location." Grunnard sighed, scratching at his head before he continued. "Of course, there were a few among the founders that did not like the idea over time, saying that the knowledge would be forgotten over time so it should just stay forgotten. After a brief battle they split apart, the defectors forming the beginnings of Shadow Veil. Their ultimate purpose is to throw the world into ignorance, which is why the trio infiltrated the village. They usually try to kill any and all witnesses that they encounter which is why you were both perilously close to dying tonight..."

"Close, but not quite there. That's what we should be focusing on." added Eustace who was still studying the writing that had formed on the page closely. He retracted the tendrils back into the book, shut it, and flared up his golden chakra on his hands once more. He placed one on Juugou's forearm and the other on his ear. This time the glow didn't spread all over his the body as it had with Haikyo, remaining localized to where Eustace's hands were. When he removed them he frowned. Instead of healing properly, the cuts on his forearms had become scars and his ear remained split though healed. "Whatever these shuriken were laced with stops the regeneration of organic matter the longer it's left alone. We will take these back and analyze them for future antidotes." Eustace rose from his position, gathering up the book and placing the shuriken in the cover.

"Don't worry about it, Elder Eustace." said Juugou, getting to his feet as well. "I feel several time better than i felt before we went chasing after those Shadow Veil thugs. I really appreciate you doing this for us." he said with a smile. "And if it isn't too much to ask, may you show me that healing jutsu you used on us? It's my goal to be a field medic some day, and that technique seems to be really handy." Eustace looked at Juugou and smiled as well. "The 'Golden Hand of Zen' takes a very long time to master. Maybe one day, if we see each other again. Good luck with your aspirations, you two! Elder Grunnard, I will now be taking my leave." With that said he walked over to the remaining two scrolls, took one and vanished in a second poof of smoke that cleared in the late night breeze. Grunnard pulled out two small bags of coins and handed one each to Juugou and Haikyo.

"This is for helping us recapture the scrolls. The intel you provided about those responsible will help us create counter-measures against something like this in the future. I must return to my colleagues now and shouldn't be back for a few days." He turned as if to go, then added, "Your friend is new to the village isn't he Juugou? Find a nice place for him to stay. He shouldn't be sleeping on the street in his condition." With that said he nodded to them both, grabbed the remaining scroll and disappeared in a third puff of smoke, leaving the genin behind.

Juugou turned and walked over to Haikyo and pulled him up to a standing position. He noticed how badly burnt the older genin's clothes were, and that his healed wounds would attract a lot of attention come morning time.
"Well that was a hell of a first day as a ninja, huh?" the young Aburame asked his partner. "My head's still spinning from all of this Shadow Veil business, but Grunnard-sensei is right. We should get you somewhere to spend the night, and possibly more since you're probably gonna be here for some time. I know just the place!" Juugou led Haikyo through the least crowded streets, giving the drunks traveling home a wide berth until they arrived at one of the many housing complexes built to accommodate ninjas who didn't have large families of their own. The rooms here were usually small to mid-sized, but the area was close to the shopping district so it raised the appeal for some.

From beaten, now battered. The genin laid silently alongside the explosion of the precious metal, everyone's blood, and exploded horse parts. What a ride that was, within seconds his body was beaten and soon after crushed between the cart and the village walls. Kaito took more than a few moments to awaken, it was a struggle for him to keep his eyes open. His eyes weren't opening very easily, and while they were open his vision was blurry a best. One thing that certainly was working well were his nerve fibers. Fortunately for him, until this very day he'd never broken any bones. Unfortunately for him he'd definitely broken his right leg, several ribs, and probably his collar bone on the same side. Surely just like the other his body was covered in blood, body parts, who knew whatever else. Kaito didn't even care the slightest, he'd just wanted to get fixed up.

The monk was talking about first aid one or something of the sort, it was hard to understand with the ringing in his ears. Sai followed up about his body being broken in his normal, angry grumbly voice. Strangely Kaito chuckled, his comment just seemed funny to him at that very moment. Not that anything was particularly funny about the situation they were in but Kaito had a weird way of finding laughter in moments of seriousness. "Yeah.. I'm gonna need one of those too." The drunk began hacking and coughing up some blood, turning his head to spit it out. "Sai, that plan was s**t... Honestly can't believe we made it out of there alive." -- The sound of Sai's voice could be heard rumbling, "You're still alive? Hn.." -- Sighing once more, before chuckling a bit more. "At least we probably looked cool doing it, eh?" The genin weirdly was in a strangely good mood even though he had just gotten the hell beat out of him. "Hajime I don't know what you just pulled a second ago, but damn that jutsu came in clutch mate. You probably saved all of our asses back there!" Shutting his eyes once again, he'd listen to the battlefield nearby soon come to an end. They'd successfully although not conventionally brought the contraband back home. Doing so they'd effectively ended the battle as well. Kaito would take careful and calm breathes to avoid any more sharp pains. Surely someone would soon come to aid the trio.

Haikyo looked back at Eustace, when he said to think of the healing as a gift, and he nodded to the main, a sharp, strong gesture. Haikyo respected him greatly--for the man had earned and deserved it. He was an elder, and a strong man--a good man. "Life, Eustace-sensei, is an ever-revolving rejuvenation. The life flowers in brilliance, and wilts...losing its color as you say. But...the flower, upon its last petal's fall...plant's its seed anew, only to find brilliance once more. In time...Eustace-sensei. For you as well." Haikyo stated with a smile, toward him, nodding again, though this time much softer. Apparently, the thief that Juugou had been faced with was able to manifest weapons from darkness...thank god that he had not been killed by them. Haikyo had confidence in his new friend, this was for sure, but anyone could falter and be caught off guard. He was proud to see that Juugou had been faced with a strong enemy and won. This pride, however, was short lived, as his attention was immediately torn away from it, when Grunnard agreed to tell them what the hell had been going on.

Haikyo's eyes widened as he looked at Grunnard, hearing about their purpose...he had an idea...he had an idea, but he didn't know if it would be the world's stupidest idea, or if it would be the world's smartest. It all depended on who found out...who knew about it. But if they did not find out, it could give Grunnard a failsafe. It was an insane situation--a secret society formed to protect the ancient arts and the history of their world. Another who wanted to destroy it all--to leave history behind, and create a world of only the present. Both had valuable points, to be honest...it was hard to damn either of them. But, Haikyo was not a fan of leaving history behind...everyone had history--everyone WAS history. "Grunnard-sensei, I have an idea...something that the Yomi clan could be incredibly useful for...though I am unsure if you would agree to it. The next time we meet...I would like to talk to you about it, if we could. A way to keep these histories and archives out of the Shadow Veil's hands." He stated with a nod, knowing he had to gain strength before he could prove the Grunnard that he was capable of executing the plan he had formulated.

When everything had wrapped up, Grunnard had said that Haikyo should not be sleeping on the streets in his condition. Haikyo blinked in shock, and confusion, and almost laughed, when he realized what Grunnard must have thought. He did look rather homeless. His family had sent him here to live with his Aunt and Uncle. That's where he had come from this morning, but when he thought about it, more and more, he wanted to become independent. He wanted to blaze his own path, so instead of fighting it, he went along with it. When Haikyo got lifted to his feet by Juugou, he smiled at the younger boy, nodding to him. "Yes, it was. I definitely didn't think I would graduate, and be stabbed, burned, punched, and almost die all in one day. I certainly hope this ninja world doesn't raise it's stakes every day." He said with a chuckle as Juugou excitedly told him about 'just the right place' for him. As he led Haikyo there, they walked in relative silence, though it was not uncomfortable. They just enjoyed each other's presence. It was quite nice. He had never had a friend like Juugou before. Being from the Head family of the Yomi clan, before they had run away, even though he was not trained in their ways, he was also often kept away in their home. When they arrived he scratched the back of his head, as he looked at Juugou. "To tell you the truth, Juugou, I do have a home. I came her to my Aunt and Uncle's home, but to be honest...I think it's time for me to live on my own. To forge my own way. Thank you for everything, today. You've taught me more in a day than anyone has in the rest of my life. You're a good man." Juugou said with a grin. "Give me a day or so to rest, okay. I have some things I need to really figure out. But, when we come back together, I am going to have this Yomi stuff figured out. I'm not going to let my heritage suffocate my growth any longer." He said with a grin, reaching out and bumping fists with Juugou. "See you soon, Juugou-kun." He said with a grin, throwing a salute as he turned on his heel and walked back up to the apartment complex, walking upstairs to the office and getting himself signed into the building. It didn't take him too long before he was resting in his very own room.

He washed the day off with a shower, making sure to clean himself. As he stood beneath the hot water, his sweat and dried blood on his body was washed away, though the wounds were still raw on his shoulders, and where his legs had been burned. That had been one scary god damn day...he was not strong enough, and that was apparent. He had a lot of growing to do, and he was going to do it, dammit. When he was finished showering, he go himself ready for bed--it was late. He needed some rest. When he hit the pillow, he was unconscious within minutes. The beds were so comfortable here...he was used to much less luxurious sleeping arrangements. His dreams took him through his past and the past of his lives before his own--wild adventures, and tales of generous, calm lives. When he awoke, the sun was hanging low in the sky, and he realized he had long over-slept, even if the day had only just begun. He was used to being up early and getting started with his day. His body had been tired as all hell, but he knew it was time to get up and get ready. Before long he was out on the balcony, walking down the stairs to the ground level. He needed to figure everything out...himself...his abilities...he needed to become a real ninja. People wanted him dead...he couldn't let Juugou stay close right now, not until he was strong enough--until THEY were strong enough for this fight that was coming. He had heard tales of a forest nearby...ominously named, but a great way to test oneself...perhaps this was where he was meant to go.

Hajime shook his head and leaned over Sai, straightening his sedge cap on his head. Sai was in a bad way. He was covered in his own blood. His breathing was ragged. His arm... wasn't where it should be, to say the least. Both of his feet weren't either. It would seem that the gods had little pity for Sai. Hajime leaned over him and ran a thin hand over his companion. Green, spectral flames sprouted from his fingers and began to seal his wounds. He shifted his hands south to Sai's legs and shins. He watched, unphased, as they slowly put themselves back into place, guided by Sai's native chakra system and Hajime's healing jutsu.

The monk addressed the other genin, "I'll address you in a moment, Kaito, once Sai is at least well enough to walk." He winced as Kaito coughed- the gods weren't quite so kind with him either, it seemed. At least they both survived, not like the enemy who Hajime had used as padding.

Kaito was impressed with the techniques of the Fire Temple. The monk was quiet for a moment, then replied with a sigh, "It was nothing." Hajime pulled away his hands, feeling a bit drained, and surveyed his work. Sai's shins were back in working order. They were still bruised and scuffed, but they should be able to bear weight, he assessed. Hajime stepped back, then approached Kaito to do the same for his right leg, which didn't appear to be in great shape. After a few moments, Hajime backed away and wiped his brow which was beading with sweat, "There. Now we should at least be able to take you back to the shinobi medics without much issue."
