Jack didn't know where he was or why he was running, other than the fact that someone was dragging him along. That same someone had kissed him. As his eyesight sharpened he saw the culprit.

"Doctor...?" he rasped out hoarsely. "How did you find me?"

Aven listlessly watched as they left. The gun in her hand was the only thing keeping her father and the executive from going after them. They were out of sight when she realized what Tom was reaching for. Two shots rang out and Aven fell, the gun slipping out of her grip.

"Dammit Tom! You better not have hit anything vital!" she heard her father yell out.

There was a pain in her leg and side and then darkness.

Gavant and knelt next to his bloodied daughter and scowled. They would have to fix this new glitch.

"Sir, should I go after them?" Tom asked glancing at the corridors the Doctor and Jack had taken.

"No... they've done enough damage. Let them go, there's no point in keeping them as specimens if out scientist is damaged. Call Alyssa and Abram. We need them to taper off Aven's new personality."

"Just ran into me? In a vault? Three stories underground? And locked with all those security codes?" Jack asked breathlessly as he took several wobbly steps, "Not that I'm complaining but that's one odd place to take a stroll wouldn't you say? And I'm trying to use my own legs but they're not cooperating!"

"Whoa, hold on, I still got the NeuralNet around my neck!" he said tugging at the collar and finding the secret release. The metal band clattered to the ground and Jack stared at it as if it were a snake. "I hate that thing. How did you manage to deactivate it?"

"It's not so much a button but a sensor. Just press the x there for three seconds and it releases, provided the Net is deactivated," Jack looked around warily, "I don't like this, they're letting us go. Why?"

Suddenly he turned to the Doctor.

"You saw the lab didn't you? You saw everything they have, right?" he asked, "They're getting it all from some girl. Doctor we have to find her, the things they're doing to her..."

Jack took his time dressing but even then couldn't find a good enough answer for the Doctor's question.

"Aven is not legally considered a human, or an alien," he finally said, "when she was... well... designed is really the only word for it, it was under the implied consent of the British Government. It was an experiment that they considered a failure but Torchwood cataloged her as a weapon. Gravant was allowed to keep her provided she was kept in check. Torchwood provided the NeuralNet in cases of extreme emergencies at least that was my understanding... but then..."

Jack shook his head, "We should have kept closer tabs on her. They've been abusing the NeuralNet and stripping her of free will whenever she disagrees with their plans. I tried to stop them but I obviously failed."

Jack knew the Doctor was angry and he didn't blame him.

"Gavant would not have allowed it. Doctor, there was nothing we could have done, not realistically. Gavant legally owns Aven like he owns this building besides, we all had our own worries back then," Jack sighed and gave the Doctor a sad look, "I did try to help her. I offered her a place in Torchwood, if only to get her out of this building... she refused."
