-----This woman's name sent shivers down his spine, and that confused him. What was the sensations running through his body, why was his mouth dry, his palms sweaty, his knees weak and arms heavy? On the surface he looked calm and ready to drop bombs, but he kept on forgetting what he wanted to say. Instead of responding to her at first, he blinked and considered her answer. In truth he held no village as higher than another, though Kirigakure no Sato did hold a special place in his heart for allowing his continued existence after so many years. Yet if word returned that he was in truth still a Kirigakure Shinobi, moving around becomes nearly impossible. Still he had to make a choice, and he decided to speak now, and on which side of the fence he was going to come down. "Greetings, Ms. Gagane. In truth, I am apart from any village for the moment. Yet my ties were originally to Kirigakure. My goals no longer can best be served by remaining with one village, and so I have explored outwards for more power, abilities, but more importantly, knowledge, so that I might spread Truth to everyone on this Plane." Looking then to Three, Jack cocked his head to the side, considering.
-----Finally, Jack spoke up. "By trade, I am both a musician and a genjutsu specialist. All of my powers are focused on bringing Truth to the world, and that requires manipulation until one is ready to see this Truth. One way is by fear. One of my techniques brings back the souls of the dead, in essence, to those who hear the song or catch the scent of mist. The strength of the technique is greater if more chakra is spent in preparation for it. One technique I use simply to teleport tens, to hundreds of miles in any direction. The only requirement is that I must know where I am going." Considering what else he could do, he continued. "One allows me to walk into the minds of others and see everything they know, as long as they are asleep. If any harm comes to them while I am doing so, I receive a likened wound. Another allows me to alter the fabric of creation for a period of time for miles around. Unlike other techniques of the Genjutsu persuasion, it does not end when the opponent recognizes it as unreal."

Leaning back into his chair, Jack slowly rolled his cane upon his legs to his knees, stopping, and then returning again. This was his method of allowing them to think him unnerved.

✿Those did not sound wonderful in any way, shape or form. Fia sipped the rest of her tea, hiding her discomfort with such extreme jutsu behind the cup "For such techniques, you'd need a large area to practice in. Otherwise...you'd have quite a few unintended casualties." she put in quietly, setting her now empty tea cup back into its saucer. She truly had nothing else to add to their technical conversation but she could at least give them a place other than the tea shoppe to discuss it.✿

-----The terms for his learning did not truly shock him, for he assumed something of that nature would come up. Why not give out information that would, in the long run, benefit them far more than it would himself? By definition, discussion was meant to take some time, and negotiation could not be completed simply by accepting the first terms given, as was clearly going to be case here. Three days to learn techniques he already had in mind, only to hand those same techniques over to Sunagakure no Sato to do as they pleased with? No, there was no benefit for him in this, other than the gifting of a single technique, which would not make up for the techniques he was to create. Considering the answer externally, Jack already knew his response, but was taking the time to consider what the girl's words meant, as well as the reactions before them. At the mentioning of his techniques her demeanor had changed, her body's movements becoming just a tad bit more controlled, rigid. His abilities either frightened her or, at the least, made her uncomfortable. This wasn't exactly a surprise, given the nature of his techniques, and the nature of Genjutsu as a whole. Few indeed did anything other than inflict terror and fear upon the victim, which at the time seemed fine, yet now there was more for him to do, more that his genjutsu simply did not address, and that meant making new ones. That did require a certain change of mindset, which might be addressed easier with someone to discuss it with. Perhaps a stranger with an emotional heart to contest and balance his rather unemotional one?
-----Looking to Three, Jack slowly shook his head. "No, I cannot accept that bargain, for a few reasons. One is that a combination of the techniques I intend to create are meant for monetary gain, which would be pointless if Sunagakure shinobi knew it. Another reason is that the only benefit I receive is your one technique, where you get everything that I create in the next three days without any true hard work on your part. It is an unbalanced, uneven trade, and I must turn it down. However, I would suggest another offer: the service I wish to create with this technique, I would offer it to any Sunagakure shinobi at one half of the appropriate price. In addition, I will bestow you three services for free, which you may pass onto others as proxy should you not desire a free service yourself. The other purpose of this technique is to learn another technique that will, in time, allow me to fulfill my own, personal quest, and that I cannot pass onto another." Here he turned his gaze to the woman, his multi-faceted eyes gleaming like jewels. "My purpose is finding Truth, to bring it to others and to see others become what they truly are, or are meant to be. For that reason I utilize powerful technique combinations, or solitary ones, to force others to face what holds them back, and through overcoming such a crucible, become the stronger for it."
-----Looking between the two, Jack considered his next step, something that he knew might well be declined. Yet it was not his time to speak, but to observe reactions, and to hear the answer to his statements and offers. This girl had taken a fascination with him, and he intended to find out why. Looking at her, unknowingly a little on the open side, Jack's mouth twitched upwards as if embarrassed, and his eyes sparkled. "If I might ask, on a side note, what do you think of my purpose?"

-----Jack looked at the girl, and turned in his chair to look at her, sitting in the seat sideways. tapping his cane on the ground as he considered how to best answer, Jack considered his approach. "Fiametta, was it? Beautiful name for beauty to match. To explain, I should speak of the past. I am a tester, a scientist of more ephemeral matters than the physical, and it is my goal to send individuals through exams of a sort. I test with my genjutsu, putting others through their own fears, their own demons, and my goal is to force them to overcome these hurdles. If they do so, they are the stronger for it, for there is never any doubt when your own Truth is known to you. However..." Here he looked to the side, and an incredible amount of pain filled his eyes, something that anyone with any sense would see. The tightening in his eyes, the small turn of his mouth's corners, but as he looked back to her he seemed to acknowledge and accept it, not diminishing it but becoming stronger for it. "There are always those who are not ready to face their Truth, and suffer for it. It was for this reason I am looking for techniques here, to help study how to ensure that those who are tested are ready, and if not, my jutsu will allow them to leave it, unharmed."
-----Gesturing to her clothes, he cocked his head to the side. "I know not much of Sunagakure no Sato's symbology, so I do not know if something about you would bespeak of some rank here. I suspect, however, from your movements and uncertainty, that you may well be a Genin. If so, I do not wish to insult you when I say this, but perhaps you may not know yourself if your Truth has been revealed. I faced mine own, and it was a crucible that nearly killed me, yet with others it has not been the case." Inhaling slowly, Jack fell silent to watch her reactions to his words. Something told him that whatever it was would hold weight with him that few others could pull. Shadow and Sypher were two such individuals, but that came from knowing them some time. Why was this woman so different, and why not the fellow in the jacket, who might well be the closest he'd met to someone who might understand him truly? Jack's mind could not tell him, nor understand the physiological reactions his body was experiencing when looking at her. This bothered him, confused him, and in some corner of his being Jack could acknowledge that there was even a bit of fear. How could a person inflict such reactions upon him when none before had? Worse yet, he did not understand them, and feared what would come of it. Yet these emotions were not powerful enough to reach past his mind and to his body, and thus no hint of his internal conflict would reach anyone outside.

Listening to him explain himself....she felt uncomfortable. What gave him the right to test people? To put them into that kind of torture? She set her cup down a little firmly "I am a genin, yes, but what gives you the right to decide that I must face something I may not be ready for?" she questioned, her expression firming with her words "You say your goal is to force people to confront these 'truths'. Why are you forcing people to face something they have the right to face themselves, on their own?" she argued, her hands going flat on the table gently.✿

Three had been for some time, thinking and pondering deeply. It was only when Fia demanded an explanation from Jack when Three ran out of tea. Setting it down on the saucer, the lanky, lab coated man cleared his throat. "Fia has a point, Jack, but the reason why I gave my conditions as such were for balance. Just as some may or may not be ready to encounter their Truths, requiring balance first, so do you. We have never met previously, and yet someone as devoted and passionate as yourself is asking for unlimited access to one of the world's greatest jutsu. I require balance of the future and the past, and in asking for such, no requests for monetary establishments have been enacted." The scientist threw his right hand in an all encompassing gesture, his palm face up as it traced through the air. "Suna does not come to me to make its money: The Wind Country receives their needs. I am here for the scientific routes, and the delicate balancing acts thereof. If my terms seem unreasonable, it is because that in itself must be maintained. I could have asked a multitude of other tasks, all of which you may find unreasonable as well."

-----The vehemance of Fiammetta's reaction caught him by surprise. Yes, over the years people had scolded him for his tests, for his desire to reveal truths to others. Yet not once had someone reacted with the distaste she clearly held for the subject. Perhaps it was that those in Kirigakure no Sato understood that his tests were meant for their own good, and trusted that he would not test those who were not ready. How could he explain to someone who knew him not that his perceptive abilities were what made him able to test others, for he could tell when their selves were being lied to, deceived even, by their mind's desires? How could he explain that without sounding like an arrogant creature? Before he could respond, Jack's eyes swiveled to Three, who gave his response. Balance? Yes, Jack knew of balance. Knew of it, and needed it. His purpose was balance, was neutrality, for that was his Truth. It was also the Truth of the world that he sought to uphold above all else. Yet there was a flaw in the man's requests, for they were not a request for balance. And this was what he would explain. "Balance, I can understand. Yet there is no balance in the requirement of all the benefits that come from that learning. A fair trade would be one, or perhaps two, techniques that would come from my experiments. Demanding them all requires more than is a fair trade for such a powerful technique."
-----Cocking his head to the side, towards Fiammetta, Jack hoped she would take this to mean his next words were meant for both of them. "My purpose is Truth, both in myself, in others, and in the world. I desire for all to know themselves, and falsehoods remove that possibility. Yes, all mankind must face their Truths, and at times they will feel that they are not ready. Yet who is ready to face their True meaning? I have faced that Truth, and thus I cannot lie here, for that would undo my purpose. I wish to learn this technique to help all, to set up tests that will, when utilized, be upon the one who activates it to control. Choice means everything in a world controlled and twisted to fit the faiths and beliefs of those who live within it. I would reflect this within my tests, so that any who enter may choose to leave, or continue on and identify their Truth. The techniques I make from learning this technique you offer will be built for that purpose. For that reason, I cannot give them to you, only the techniques I have made before. However, I am not above performing tasks for you to prove my sincerity, and while, yes, I may not approve, I will not truly know, nor will you, until you tell them to me."
-----Turning his eyes once more to the beauty at his side, Jack raised an eyebrow. "If you still believe that I am wrong, that my methods are unsound, I would welcome a time for us to talk alone, so that you may educate me with your version of Truth. What say you?"

You call them their truth, I call them their demons." Fia replied, her voice tight with a controlled emotion. It wasn't clear whether it was frustration or distaste but she clearly disapproved of this technique but at the mention continuing the conversation, she tilted her chin up "...very well. Meet me at the eternal rain forest when you have finished your business here." nodding a polite good bye to Three and Jack, Fia stood, sweeping her skirt out so it fell correctly. Leaving some change for her tea on her original table, she left the tea shoppe with the intention of finding a good place to start a fire.

Not wanting to prohibit Fia's invitation to Jack, Three hurried along the conversation. "Then by our contract," the scrawny scientist reached across, poking Jack in the forehead, "you will assist me in world balance." Sitting back down, Jack's mind would empty, spin, and then fill from the bottom up again with all of his own knowledge and experience. The feeling of what was needed to gain the fuuin would be right at the tip of his tongue, as if he needed to go look up all of his recordings on Fuuinjutsu, energy containments of the strange, and abstract notions of drawing power from almost nothing. Surely, somewhere on his personal island, a juju or idol contained the key to between feelings given to him from his past, and those urgings dwelling in the future. It was there that he would find his information. When Jack had settled down, the first task was given. "Believe it or not, but I have not heard from the Sound Country's Daimyo since the United Hidden Villages staged a coup. There must be an informant, prisoner of war, or someone that knows of his location or what has befallen of him."

-----When Fiammetta responded in the positive, Jack almost gasped, but it paled in comparison to the flash of memory and information that burned through his mind. He felt himself rebuilt, and for a moment he considered rushing into those memories, learn his past at last, yet he retreated a moment later when the Truth came to him: his memory would return in time. In his own time, not that of others, otherwise the damage done to him would be intense. And when the memory formed into his mind of where he needed to go, Jack almost wept, for he knew what it would mean: a return to home, a return to Shadow, and he did not know what that would mean for them both. They hadn't left on the best of terms at the time, and there was nothing that would indicate that might likely change anytime soon. When Three spoke then, Jack cocked his head to the side, his curiosity peaked. "Interesting. You wish to bring balance, as I do. If the Otogakure no Sato's Daimyo is in fact imprisoned, or at the very least a pawn, then perhaps if we free him we can restore Otogakure to a more favorable side."

Standing, Three hailed for everyone's checks, paid them in full, and tried to keep his baubles from clinking too loudly on his way out. With a wave of a hand as he passed the windowed table where all three shinobi sat at, Three was off on his merry way.

This made things a bit more interesting, at least, and more hopeful in regads to the future. Nodding to Three, Jack sat for another minute thinking before standing and moving to leave, his cane tapping lightly on the floor as he did so.
