Remus saw what looked like a gigantic bison, it's mane puffed out, and streaked with exotic white. It was at least 4 times larger than the wolves. It was at least a mile away from Remus and the others so it wouldn't be a bother.
As they got closer to the cabins, they started hearing what sounds like scurrying, and rustles in bushes.

Swords were drawn and spells were ready to be cast as they trudged on through ice and snow. Emma decided that the dress she was wearing was rather impractical, and her outfit changed as she walked.
Emma had altered her gown; it was now a pair of long, black breeches and a matching, long-sleeved, high-necked bodice, the silver embroidery remaining on both.
Knee-high boots now covered her feet, made from some sort of soft leather.

Remus and his guards had their defrosting systems melting any ice that tried to form on their metallic shells. Remus heard the the rustiling through his audio receptors and he switched his sight to infrared to seek out any heat signatures. His left hand formed a drill.

Scribbler had wrapped Lyonel's cloak about herself, keeping the ink-shield active, but ready to convert into something painful in an instant.
Her brush pulsed, and she followed, attempting to store up soul energy once more.

[[I might have to go soon so pace up those posts >.<; ]]
"We've been expecting you tainted ones," Said an accented voice. A Darkling with pitch black skin, and blue pupils walked in a a squadron of Soulless ones. He a necklace that was purple. This one was controlling his mind, but it was not made to kill or consume souls.
"My comrades here will take care of you!" He laughed, and ran off while the squadrons drew their bows imbued with arcane power.

[editing...and ditto on the having to go bit. ^^;] Oh, sweet irony. Tainted ones? The paene allowed her shield to explode outwards, aiming the spikes at the squadron. It was a decent distraction until the very ink froze solid in the uncooperative weather.
She took two arrows to the ribs before she could pull up another shield, wincing in pain.

They both saw the bows, and Emma felt the emotion through their mental link. Rage, pain, and an grief older than she was.
Neither of them moved, and Emma hid her eyes as the bows-and their wielders were consumed.
The sorcerer beside her had grown very, very still as he opened a split in the earth beneath the squadron, swallowing them whole and closing the tear over their still-shrieking forms.
There was no mercy in his eyes.

"Engaging the enemy."
The automatons fired upon the foes and Remus readied an energy shield. However, he didn't deploy it in time and the arcane power imbued in them blasted the Imperator and the automatons back, seriously damaging all three of them. Remus saw and felt nothing but static for a second.

The squadron were consumed, but as if on cue a few more took their place. Almost immediately knocking in arrows in their bows.

Emma nearly died of cardiac arrest right then and there, and was more than shocked when the sorcerer tackled her to the ground. Something whizzed over both their heads, and even though it missed them, the arcane power still hit both nobles hard.
And, since the sorcerer was lying on top of Emma, he took most of the blast, but didn't show pain.
It hurt, but he was not about to let anybody else know that.

[it's official. Dice hates us. ;_;] Another attempt was made to swipe the archers out of the way, this time with a blinding spell...but the paene was too unfocused, the arcane-tipped arrows burning away at her reserves.
The feeble wisp of light was barely enough to light the air, much less blind them...and another arrow pierced her shield, landing in her arm.

((I was going to suggest that.)) The Imperator and his guards scrambled to their feet...
Remus was pissed at this point. No way was he going to let these primitive monkeys take him down like that.
"Let's give them a taste of our Imperial firepower!" he boomed and one of his guards threw a plasma grenade at the squad. There was a flash of white light and the archers were thrown in every direction.

[[Woo lucky you! I added it to rules some time ago. 100= instant win against foe, and 20 health points to all party members.]]
The waves of squadrons stopped. There was now a clearing, and the cabin clusters lay before them. It awaited them as if to embrace the group.
The wind howled loudly, and that was all the sound in the world.

Emma managed to get herself and her husband to their feet, and they both dusted the snow off each other, pointedly not saying a word.
Sore ribs and bruised pride, but no other major injuries.
