Senka shook her head, "Saki?"
Senka hadn't been aware that here there were only two cats like her in this world as long as she wasn't in it. Whisper and Saki, both originally from Gaia, but brought here to be raised and cared for.
Lin nodded at this, "I came here to train. The thing is, I was born from a human vase, and Seconds have never sprouted wings before so I find myself kind of back a square one. I need help to train, and to adjust to having wings now."
"And you need to be taught," Cindy murmured.
She had been just as surprised as everyone else, well almost. There were days she had to wonder about her little sister. Though Cindy, now that her attention was on Lin noticed a few things about Lin's wings that made her frown a bit. It was small things most wouldn't notice.
"Like how to groom them, I see a loose one."
"Really? I can't find them so I keep shedding every once in a while."

Whisper nodded at Senka. "Saki lives on the ranch, Haven, the place that Lin's father started up," she said softly. "When the elves rescue the children from the dwarfs and humans, Saki helps the children remember how to be children. She is half butterfly, I believe. Perhaps you should ask Lin to take you there so that you can meet her as well."
Rhea looked intently at Lin. "Grooming is not the reason that you came here for training," she murmured. "You came for more than that."
It was the first time Kaito had met Rhea (it had been a very long time since he had been here, though Shiro came often enough) and he had to admit, she was rather impressive.

"Training," Lin reiterated, "Everything else I can learn on the fly, but the wings had been very unexpected, and I don't want push back the sailing trip even further by training at home where even more years will passed. We had told Roydon only a couple days previous to me sprouting wings that we would be ready to go."
Which meant really she had months, not years to get ready for something like this. Lin was so focused on this particular problem and her need to travel that she didn't notice that Cindy was just rolling her eyes.
"There's another problem though, no one back home fights physically with wings this big. Yue's wings only takes up his backside, and Mom doesn't fight. So... I also just don't know where to start with something like this."

"Ah," Rhea nodded. "Well, I can help you, if you would like me to. Nako has been teaching me, even with wings, so perhaps I can help you with those aspects of balance that you have trouble with."
She pushed her chair back and moved behind Lin, and motioned towards her wings. "May I?" she asked.

Lin blinked not sure what Rhea was going to do but she nodded anyways. She trusted Rhea, as Rhea always wanted to help.
"Of course," Lin replied, "Uhm... what do you want me to do?"

Rhea smiled. "I'd just like to take a look at your wings," she said softly, "so that I can consider what kind of training you'll need to do, if that's all right."
She was very serious now, so different from the excitable child she'd been the last time anyone from Gaia had seen her.
"If you could just spread your wings," she requested.

Lin spread her wings outward all the while trying not whack anyone as they were unfurling away from her body. It was quite a wingspan from one tip to the other.
She tried not to get tipsy as it threw off her weight.

Rhea carefully put one hand on one of Lin's wings, running her fingers over her feathers, and then she used both hands to stretch out the wing, measuring its span. For a moment, she just looked thoughtful, and then a set of wings sprouted from her back, the feathers the same type and weight as Lin's, her wings the same size in proportion to her body.
"I think this won't be too bad," she smiled, letting go of Lin's wing and letting her own vanish once more. "As wings go, they seem quite natural."

"And yet I feel like a fish out of water a good portion of the time since it's happened," Lin admitted.
The first few nights had been hard and even then there were times Lin wondered what in the heck she was sleeping on until she realized she was sleeping on her wings. She began sleeping on her stomach, sleeping on them ruined the feathers more.
"It's good to know though," she smiled wryly.

Rhea laughed softly and moved to return to her chair. "I'm sorry, I should make myself more clear," she smiled apologetically. "I meant, as far as wings go, they feel right. Not too big, not too small, and might actually be of use."
Valar knew, she had tried different kinds.

"I see....."
Lin looked thoughtful, she didn't think they were small enough, but that was just her really. So she wasn't quite sure how to go about moving about with this.
"So in terms of movement it should be fine."

Rhea nodded. "Once you get used to them, you'll be fine," she smiled. "Don't worry so much about it. We can get started on it tomorrow, since of course it's far too late tonight."
"And as soon as you're finished eating," Adonai spoke up, "you'd best get to wherever you're staying for the night. You don't want to be caught outside too late, not right now."
Kaito narrowed his eyes slightly. "You said something similar-ish earlier. What's going on? You said you would tell us over dinner."

Lin had been so distracted by the idea of training that she had forgotten about that little mystery. She looked back at Adonai, he was quite serious about this, everyone seemed to be.
"Did something happen?"

Adonai explained to the two the situation that Ahren had suspected and the idea he'd had to send out a second group, and how that left the area rather unprotected.
"Aerin's staying with Alyse, but other than that we've got rotating shifts for keeping watch," he concluded. "Unfortunately, that means that at night, it's not safe even for us to go outside. It's not like it's a shoot first, ask questions later mentality, but you don't want to be mistaken for someone you're not."

That was a very good point considering how unprotected the area was. It would be enough to make anyone jumpy to be honest.
"I see...." Lin murmured thoughtfully, "I can't imagine it being that empty."
She wondered if the mer twins were helping with the shifts, in an odd sort of way they were the safest because no one would think of looking in the river waters.
