Rory stepped out after a moment in a dark green and gray swimsuit that looked more like long shorts. Really? Why did Mr. Katan even have a swimsuit like this? Well, whatever. He smiled at Lydia, holding his jeans and the borrowed white shirt up to his chest, his boots held in his other hand hanging by his side. "Can you show me t' me room before w' gae t' th' pool? It's across th' hall from Lee's room."

"Thanks," Rory chuckled, walking into the room, leaving the door open. "I guess I'm more used t' talkin' wi' girls haen three sisters." He set the clothes on the bed and put the boots down on the floor then looked at the girl. "You're rather nice, too. Most outsiders wouldnae e'en bother t' talk wi' me unless they had t'." He walked back to the door, looking down at her. "An' you can just call me Rory. Makes me feel a bit silly when someone adds 'mister' in front o' me name."

"I ain't all tha' intimidatin'," Rory chuckled, following the girl. "I figure most keep they're distance because I be didikai." He shrugged a bit.

The boy just laughed. "I donnae see why it matters if I'm marryin' Lee or not. If you wanna talk, I'll listen. W' really donnae hae social classes at th' carnival. I mean, we do, but not like this here and they donnae keep us from conversatin' wi' one another." He shook his head a bit, dark shaggy hair moving about. "I think Mrs. Katan is more upset wi' lack o' control than she is wi' me." He looked at Lydia, white eyes showing through dark bangs. "You like th' accent, eh? Most outsiders find it a little hard t' understand us. They think maybe w' ain't smart or tha' we just donnae talk reet. This common tongue ain't me first language. I grew up speakin' didikai an' learned th' other when I started school. W' still mostly speak didikai in me parents' home an' around Farstep. I'd speak it in me own home if Lee understood it, but I ain't taught her yet."

"I think she can do anythin' she puts her mind t' when properly motivated," Rory answered, not at all insulted on Lee's behalf. He knew her faults, after all. "I donnae think outsiders know w' hae our own language 'cause w' tend not t' speak it outside the clan an' carnival. I guess it's really th' same wi' any ethnic group. I donnae speak demon or fae . . . well, I know a very little fae, but only because o' me ancestor an' there bein' a few o' them in th's clan. Still, you get me point, eh?"

"Farstep," Rory answered. "It's really not tha' far from here by th' trolley since it ain't movin' anymore. Donnae know when you plan on gaen, but if it's afore me an' Lee are back there, you can always ask fae Faolan t' show you about. Just tell him your a friend o' mine and Lee's an' hell be happy to gi' you a tour." Yes, he was that clueless about the girl's intentions on asking about the carnival, but definitely was pleased that an outsider actually was interested in his culture.

Rory smiled and walked over to Lee, the servant girl forgotten about for the moment at the sight of his lover. He sat down next to her, letting his feet dangle in the water as well. "Your da let me borrow the swimsuit. Hope it looks alreet. W'll hae t' get Jeremy t' show me where t' buy a few o' me own." He remembered Lydia's offer. "One o' your girls here offered t' help wi' th' swimmin' lessons so I ain't taken up all your time wi' your parents."
