Landon stood there, listening in utter confusion. That wasn't all he was feeling though... The other feelings were bad, really bad, because it felt... It felt like he was back 6 years, and this was his chance to fix everything. To talk it out with her, find out the reason, and work on it.
But it wasn't. This was 6 years later and they were both taken. Kaitlyn, he had to think of Kaitlyn!
If those last thoughts hadn't come to mind, he would have argued a lot more, and pressed a lot more, tried a lot harder, but he still did, to an extent.
And the last thing she said made it all the harder to keep from doing so.
"Stephanie... I don't... I don't even understand most of what your saying, it makes no sense to me. You make it sound like you did something really bad and thought it would hurt me... And I highly doubt that, but even if you did, you have to know I would have been there for you, whatever it was, and that it couldn't have hurt me near as much as you leaving me did..."
He shook his head, and took a deep, deep breath, for what he was about to say. He didn't even know how hard it was going to be to say it until he did.
"But... but now you have James.... and I have Kaitlyn. And... and I think we should... just play their stupid game, and get it over with, get back to them, and..." here it was. He felt a lump forming, could he even bring himself to say it?
"And not.... not see each other anymore, at all. It's too.... hard..." he swallowed past the lump, and was leaning back against the gate, looking away from her, he couldn't even look her in the eyes when he said it.
That was the last thing he wanted. But with Stephanie in the picture, even only a little, he would never be able to fully focus on his relationship with Kaitlyn, and that wasn't fair to her. She deserved more then that.****************************************    As soon as forever is through

Move along, move along like I know you do.. James had been waiting for an answer from Kaitlyn for a few seconds as she seemed to be thinking it over, when the TV suddenly turned back on. It wasn't a picture he was seeing though, but sound waves, as only sound played.
Landon and Stephanie again...
And at a critical moment too.
When Kaitlyn could hear everything.
At first he just stared at the screen, listening, while it was Landon speaking. And he had to admit, from what he heard, he was almost curious for an answer too. But see, he wanted a real concrete reason from Stephanie, a reason why she dumped him, that would still matter. He didn't get what he wanted....
He had heard Katy then, and stood up as she ran off, just watching her at first, while feeling like s**t himself. He'd already tried all of that.
"Kate, they have it all locked up...." he said feebly, feeling even worse for her then he did for himself, which was pretty damn bad.
Then, wait, what was she doing?
"No!"
James tried to run and catch her before she actually broke the window, but he was too late, and she cut her arm up pretty bad.
He dashed back to the couch for the towel he had used and ran back, crouched down next to her. He put his arm around her, holding her close, to comfort her, but also took her arm, wrapping it gently in the towel, because they still needed to make sure there wasn't glass in it and he didn't want to push any in more.
James stroked her hair, "We need to clean you up" he whispered, only half listening to Landon after that.
Although, he caught the last part.
For the sake of getting out of the room where they would have to keep hearing everything, he picked Kaitlyn up in his arms and carried her to the bedroom, with an attached bathroom as he suspected. With both doors closed, he couldn't hear anything.
He set her down carefully and stood up, taking the towel and running water through it. Right now, he just knew they had to take care of her arm and the broken glass. ..And even when your hope is gone

Stephanie watched his face. He wasn't leaving. "I can't.. You wouldn't have stuck around Landon and--" He was continuing.
She was not going to ruin his life with a kid in the picture. She loved Hayley more than anything. And that kid really had saved her from a lot. But for Landon to have had to concentrate on a baby and college was just not fair to him.
It hadn't been his fault.
She felt her heart tighten and she was on the brink of tears. She had broken his heart, but what he didn't seem to know was that in that, she had shattered her own.
He was right, she had James and he had Katy. But she didn't want James. Not anymore. She wanted Landon, just as she always had. And seeing him, even rarely was killer.
He was always with Kaitlyn. Always so damned happy with her.
Then he said it.
And she couldn't do that. She couldn't just never see him anymore. Sure, it hurt like hell to see him, but not seeing him ever would just be worse.
"Landon.. Please.. I.." Stephanie's voice broke.
But he was right.
They should just leave each other there and leave their passed in the passed.
But she didn't want to. She wanted to fix everything. And somehow, she knew it was impossible.
Six years was a long time. And in that time, she had changed.
A lot.
Because six years ago, she would not have stepped forward, reached up and grabbed the blonde haired guy and pulled him into a kiss.
She wouldn't have thrown her entire heart into it, somehow hoping that would make everything okay.
In reality, he would most likely push her away and she would feel lower than dirt. Crushed even more.
But how could she just sit by and not try?
She didn't have James. She was losing him more than anything. And frankly, as much as she cared for him she could never love him like she loved Landon.
She could never love anyone like she loved him.

"I would have!" Landon argued briefly, but said no more on it. Why didn't she trust him more then that? And she still wasn't telling him why!
But again, he suppressed the urge to ask more about it, leaving it just at, he would have.
Even when he said it his voice was somewhat shaky however, still not quite gotten over what he had said.
Especially the look on her face, it killed him. But he didn't take it back.
Not even when her voice broke, starting to say something about it, in what sounded like a protest. He didn't want it! But, it just, he didn't see any other way!
Kaitlyn, Kaitlyn, Kaitlyn, Kaitlyn, Kaitlyn, Kaitlyn, Kaitlyn, Kaitlyn, Kaitlyn, he thought, over and over. He had to think about her, or he wouldn't be able to stop himself fr-
He'd been distracting himself too much to see Stephanie coming.
She reached up, pulling him into a passion filled kiss that made his heart leap, eyes close, and everything else to just vanish.
Landon didn't hesitate more then 2 seconds before he was completely taken in by it, returning it, his hand coming up to cup her cheek, and the other going around her waist.
And yet, it wasn't fast and furious, but deep and seemed to say everything he couldn't say, but wanted to, even what he didn't know he wanted to.
And before he knew it, he had moved them around, pressing Stephanie gently back into the door of the gate, his tongue pushing through her lips for more, more, more.
He broke away, suddenly, head snapping back with a sharp intake of breath, and was panting from the intensity of it, heart pounding rapidly, while the rest of him was on fire with desire. And shame.
And he was still holding her as he said through shaky breaths, "Don't... don't do that to me again... I... I can't.... Kaitlyn... I can't do this to her.... even though I-I want..." he shook his head, eyes closed tightly again before opening them, and stepped back, away from her. He turned around and put his hands on a nearby table, looking down, trying to clear his head.
It was useless, and the feelings wouldn't go away! And the memories that coursed through his head... both of Stephanie, and Kaitlyn.
Like last night... The amazing sex with Kaitlyn, and then when he had thought he was with Stephanie after, or back to the old days when he was, or the last time he'd spent the night at Katy's.... and now, just now... his body ached for Stephanie, and his mind reminded him of Kaitlyn, and the things she did to his body too, but also, of how much he loved Stephanie.
It was just too much.**************************************** As soon as forever is through

Stephanie wrapped her arms around his neck tighter as his hand touched her cheek. She flushed instantly, her cheeks heating up and turning a dark red.
She was spun to the right and pressed against the gate, his other hand at her waist. His tongue was pushing against her lips. Stephanie was slowly opening her mouth to let him in but he pulled back.
She was left breathless as he looked down at her, holding onto her. "I ... I can't lose you Landon. I've... you've been gone too long." He left her, standing there with weak knees.
She nearly fell to the cement but she managed to stand, shivering. Her entire body went cold as his warmth left her.
He was against the table now and she rushed to his side again.
"Listen to me." She ran her hand down his arm, from his shoulder to his hand, where she covered it.
"When I pushed you away, you took a huge part of me with you. I'm not the same girl I used to be. Without you, I'm not Stephanie anymore."
Stephanie looked at the side of his face, his eyes casted down on the table.
"I know that you're with Katy. And she's my friend. And James... I don't even know about him anymore." She shook her head. "I..."
She swallowed. "Nothing is right without you." She squeezed his hand a bit. A tear was sliding down her cheek before she realized it.

Kaitlyn was still in a state of shock, not much thinking going on in her head. But she felt something on her arm, as soft as it was, and something stroke her hair. James? No. He shouldn't be so damn nice to her. All the things she bottled up inside her for all this time were starting to surface. And she didn't want to do anything with him. She had Landon, though it seemed that was pointless now. What a man whore. If she ever saw him again, she would most likely punch him.
But now she was in the bathroom, she heard the running water. Her eyes looked over to see James getting the towel wet, why? Casting her eyes away from him, to the slowly noticeable throbbing into her arm, she was surprised. It looked bad, but she didn't feel much of it. But she could see glass embedded into her arm, maybe that wasn't the brightest ideas she ever had.
But for bubbly Kaitlyn to act this way she was upset. In her heart she didn't want to live with the regret of not trying to get to Landon the same way she felt with James. Wondering what might have happened if she found him, instead of waiting as long as she did then went looking for him. She couldn't take it. Everyone she has ever dated didn't compare to the two of them. She loved Landon, with all her heart, that she had. The rest of belonged to James, and it always will. But the only person to have ever dumped her was James. But it seemed Landon was heading down that way. She wouldn't be able to take it, the only men she loved end up dumping her in the end. So what was the point?
Now she couldn't look at neither her arm, nor James. If only she was able to reach the door handle, she could have gotten out. It was killing her knowing this was happening. Didn't Landon love her. Well, truly, since he claims to, but is having a funny way of showing it if he says that he loves another girl. Why the hell did he asked her out if he wants Steph so damn bad. It didn't make any sense. Kaitlyn remained quite and thoughtful. Her face emotionless.

Move along, move along like I know you do.. James had barely heard Landon, but he had all the sae, as he moved Kaitlyn out of there. Well there was a thought! But James was afraid it was too late for that. As much as Stephanie was saying she wasn't good for Landon or whatever, it sounded like all she wanted was to be with him anyway.
So much for them. He doubted she was even thinking about him at this point. At least Landon still seemed to have Kaitlyn in mind a little.... Which wasn't enough still.
All of this, it was so wrong.
But now he had Katy to take care of at the moment. He went back over to her and sat down next to her, setting the wet towel on his lap. He took her arm, carefully, and held a part of it that looked safe, while he looked the rest of the bloody mess over.
Ok, so Mr doctor man would probably be better suited for this then him, but James would try.
He started to pick the pieces of glass out as carefully as he could, but... she would need medical help... there as a lot of blood, and surly there were little pieces of glass in her arm he wouldn't be able to reach?
Bastards.
He'd kill them next time he saw them... unless they were getting her medical attention. Then he'd kill them after.
But for now, he was trying to do his best to fix her up himself, not saying a word, while he focused on this task. He didn't want to screw up and hurt her. That other b*****d had hurt her enough already. He didn't deserve Kaitlyn. ..And even when your hope is gone

Kaitlyn closed her eyes as she felt slight pressure in her arm. It was only James holding her arm, and then she felt him take out pieces, which made everything better. Opening her eyes she looked at him, her other hand reaching over and holding one of his, forcing him to stop for a moment. "Thank you..." That's all that she could say. Her eyes scanned his for a while. Just looking into them, but her arm still needs a little more attention. Otherwise she would sit there for a while.
But she figured she might as well help in this process. She stood up and went over to the sink, and ran her arm underneath the water. She learned this trick from her father. Cause she had a run in with glass once before in her past. While the water was running the blood down the drain, it was easier for her to see what exactly happened to her arm in her brief glimpse of insanity. It looked worse with all the blood then it was. Only one long cut from her wrist to her elbow, that wasn't deep at all, and a few inch long scars everywhere else. Now she took her fingers, and applied pressure, to see if it caused her pain.
Her hand moved up and down her arm, and there didn't seem to be any. James had gotten all the large pieces out, and there weren't small ones left. Otherwise she would have felt them. Turning off the water, she sat back down in front of James, taking up the towel and wrapping it around her arm. "Let's go find better wrappings. Gauze and an ace bandage will work." One would think dating a doctor would rub off on a person, but no. This is knowledge she had before Landon.
Kaitlyn stood and opened the door silently, only to hear that Stephine was nothing without Landon. How ******** fantastic. She was actually going to slap her best friend. She should know how much Landon meant to her! What a b***h.
First thing first, turn of the t.v. Crossing the room in only a few strides, and turning down the audio of the t.v., she wanted to find James, and just hug him. Didn't know why, but she always felt that way. Even with Landon, it wasn't the same. Landon tried to comfort her, but it was... attempting more then knowing anything. James knew her inside and out. Landon did too, but rarely did he act on such knowings.

Landon wanted to be alone, to think things over without these distractions. So much happened, so quickly. It was overwhelming. And what she had said.... it was... it was what he had wanted hear from her for so long. But...
She just had to come over to him, didn't she?
Landon gasped, back arching in in surprise and countless other things, when her hand ran down from his shoulder to his hand, where she left it.
He knew he should pull away, but he didn't move.
He listened, his head turned in the opposite direction of her, but he couldn't not listen. And it just... what was she saying?
It STILL didn't make any sense!
He turned his head, looking up at her now, from mostly the same position, still all too aware of her hand on his.
"Then why did you leave me?" a simple question, on the surface. But.... he had to know!
And she was so confusing too! First she was talking about how she was bad fo him, and couldn't risk him again, and now... now she wanted...?
Landon wouldn't even let himself finish the thought.**************************************** As soon as forever is through

Stephanie looked down at their hands. She sighed softly and bit her bottom lip.
Why did she leave him?
"I told you Landon. I would have ruined your life." She didn't exactly have to explain. "I was pregnant with a kid." No with a monkey! Not the time for jokes.
"You were going off to med school, it wouldn't have been fair to you." She felt a lump in her throat growing.
"It wasn't your fault.." She trailed off, squeezing his hand a bit again.

Move along, move along like I know you do.. James was momentarily frozen as she held his hand, looking up into his eyes as he looked down from his slightly crouched, half sitting, position.
"Well, I don't like to see you hurt..."
Which is why he had detached himself so much when he dumped her years ago. It was an incredibly selfish thing to do, all of it. He knew it then too, but he had tried to push it all away.... He never should have left her... What was it that made him do it, really? Fear of commitment? Maybe. He had told himself back then that it was for her own good.
He stood up as she did and watched, yeah... they did need to get the blood off. And it still didn't look too good, but much better. Still bleeding though.
"Right..." he said a little distractedly, following her out.
He followed her out into the living room area and stopped dead in his tracks at Stephanie's voice.
Really?
Really?
Yeah. Screw him. She was nothing without pretty boy ******** that. She could have Landon. She obviously didn't want him anymore. Damn, James should have figured that out when she called him Landon.
But then there was Kaitlyn.... and Landon... It made James feel so alone, because he knew Katy really did love the guy. But, she had said it herself, that she still loved him too...?
James shook his head and kept walking after she had turned the sound down. Just because Stephanie didn't want him anymore, didn't mean he got to have Kaitlyn. He didn't deserve her anyway, after what he had done to her.

"But wh-!" What?
He swallowed. And not for a second did Landon considered that she had cheated on him, despite the way that could have been taken, especially after her next words.
No.
His expression was stuck in shock, mouth slightly open from when he hadn't finished his sentence before she told him the truth.
It took a moment, but then he straightened, puling away, turning to face her fully. He closed his mouth, flexed his jaw, trying to find words to say.
Finally, he said, very slowly, making sure to get every word out clearly, and not let his voice shake, which he hope he succeeded at.
"Are you.... telling me..." his tongue ran over what felt like chapped lips as he took a breath, "That I... missed, the first 5, years. Of my... my little girls life?"
No. He- he had to have this wrong. She couldn't have- maybe she had had someone else while he was at college. That would make more sense, wouldn't it?
She wouldn't really do this to him. Not let him... let him have... Hayley couldn't be his. Then he... he didn't miss...
Landon was in shock, at the revelation, but more then anything, that she had kept this from him. If she was his.**************************************** As soon as forever is through

Stephanie felt her knees go weak. Her lips trembled as he spoke after what felt like hours. Her heart sped up and she released his hand.
But her eyes were still locked on it, was he shaking? She couldn't look up at him.
And minutes passed before she could answer.
What was best? Lie to him? Tell him that she cheated on him? Hayley wasn't his and the dad skipped out on her?
Or tell him the truth? That she kept his child from him for years? She swallowed harder.
Before she could really make a decision her mouth was finally moving.
"It wasn't your fault Landon." Stephanie felt another tear slide down her cheek.
"Hayley wouldn't blame you.. I don't blame you.." Her knees gave out a little bit before she turned and pressed her weight against the table.
"You have to see this from my eyes.. you were going to school to be a freaking doctor. I was not going to force you to stand by me because I messed up."
Thats when she couldn't hold it in anymore, tears streamed down her face.
"My god.. I am so sorry," She muttered, in between a sob.
