"The shackles don't come off until he's on Outlander soil," Rose replied hotly. "Now if that's it, we should leave."

In the awkward silence that followed, she escorted Sai out of the room; as fearsome as Rose could look with the scowl across the fine features and rough scars that defined her appearance, the cheeky wink Sai managed as she led him out combined with the confident swagger as he walked served to reinforce the growing realization of the Coven soldiers that Sai could probably have killed Rose before she could react - even handcuffed.

Their flight took off on schedule; it was fairly uneventful, and there was little to do but play cards while the autopilot ran. As they passed through various time zones, the captain ordered her skeleton crew to go to sleep so they'd be refreshed when they landed. They made valiant efforts, but as they'd only been awake at most about four hours, they met little success. As "evening" came while their ship cruised over the Australian outback, the captain announced they were to spend a night sleeping in the Coven Embassy before returning Dremmeur Sai to his people.

The embassy was a fortified citadel, a sentinel standing tall over the barren wasteland; their dock was a circular platform extended from the side; a metal dome withdrew as they came in for landing and resealed behind them.

Captain Erikson gathered them in the briefing room - save for Sai - and ordered them to get some sleep, informing them of where they were to sleep and adding the locations of the dining commons and a set of terminals with a connection to the central Coven network; she explained the path to Dremmeur Sai's cell, and that tomorrow at 10 A.M. they were to escort him out of it, take him to a Coven nonmilitary hovercraft, and that the military personnel he'd requested - Ty, Cassandra, Cameron, and Isaac - would accompany Camille, Sai, and CL_Triton into the city of Perth, to the southwest.

She dismissed them, and they went to their various rooms. Of course, there were several hours left before they needed to sleep.

Isaac sat in his room, writing a letter to his parents. Just the standard Oh, life is fine. Working on a crew, making new friends. How's it back home? By the way, can you kill me now? letter that his parents expected every month.

His mind wasn't on it. After a while, he sighed and stood, headed out into the hall, and went to Ty's door. He knocked and called, "Hey, you up for a little training or something? We can get Cassandra if you want."

As Isaac was giving up on his letter, Carlyle was finishing cleaning his Garm Cypher Rifle. As he gave the Cypher a spin and felt the mana being guided by it, he smiled. "Just keep being the wonderful little death-dealer you are," he whispered to his weapon as he walked it to his bed and tucked it under his pillow. Changing from his standard Coven uniform into dark blue jeans and a loose black shirt, he tucked a Garm Flechette Pistol into his jeans - safety on, of course - and went to visit Dremmeur Sai, pausing uncertainly as he saw Isaac in the corridor.

Cameron Carlyle didn't know what to make of Isaac: he was brave at times, a coward at others; he was difficult to force into action, but a deadly force when he was forced. He was quick to strike when moved, but not quickly moved to strike, one might say.

"Of course," Carlyle muttered beneath his breath as he stood in the doorway of his room, tucking his key card into his pocket, "His lack of free thought is remarkably constant."

Ty had proceeded immediately to the dining hall and was thus totally unaware of Isaac's amiable summons at the moment they were presented. Due to some literally incredible timing, though, just moments before Carlyle left his room, the conversation in which Ty had engaged a lovely, blond Clockgirl was interrupted by an urgent summons from her superior officer.

With a sigh that was not wholeheartedly disappointed, Ty glanced briefly around the room and back at his plate, realizing that for once, he was actually full and wanted some sleep. Off to his room, then, he went, only to find Isaac and Carlyle engaged in a friendly staring contest. Only Carlyle seemed aware of the contest.

"O hai!" he greeted them. Carlyle's muttering was disregarded as inconsequential. "How're you two?"

Isaac turned, confused, then saw Ty. His confusion began to melt into understanding, then he saw Carlyle, and his half-melted face became a very odd construction of clockwork, confusion, and ohhhhhshit.

Isaac was unsure what to do, so he instead stood awkwardly, mouth slightly open as he tried desperately to think of something to say.

As the Coven crewmembers stood in various states of gawking-at-each-other, the shadow mage stepped out from another room.

"Ah, just the folks I was looking for," he happily declared. "Maybe you won't be as boring as the tech support boys. You feel like going down to the computer center and seeing if we can get into the official Coven files on our COs?"

Ty blinked as the mage stepped through the wall, not quite used to the nightshade scent of shadow magic. At least it was better than the Clockie stuff, but that was just something to which he needed to acclimate.

"Sure! Couldn't hurt. Probably." He patted his chest with a grin of greeting and looked at the mage. "Name's Ty. Yours?"

"You can call me Martin. Don't worry, it's only a little illegal," he added with a cheerful wink. "How about you kids? Gonna join the fun? Maybe we can see what the White Witch has against Sai? I mean, damn, you seen those looks she gives him? Could freeze a lake with a stare like that."

Isaac, who had been at that meeting, already knew, but he probably shouldn't let Martin know that just yet.

"Sure, sounds good," he said, his voice tinged with relief at not having to talk to Carlyle at that moment. "I'm Isaac."

"How illegal?" the equally-relieved albino asked, a little put-off by that part. "Are we talking slap-on-the-wrist illegal? Court-martial illegal? Angels-knocking-on-our-doors-at-midnight illegal?" He shared Isaac's sentiments regarding revealing their information to the 'outsider.'

"I do this every time I end up on a new ship. I'm sure it'll be fine," the shadow mage reassured them. "So... you in?"

Ty bounced on his feet a little and looked at the other two. "C'mon, it'll be fun! Besides, what else're we gonna do? Play cards? Again?"

He had not enjoyed the card games. Sure, he had liked checkers with the old man, but checkers didn't have a lot of rules and it told tales of epic battles, especially when the old man, taking Ty's childish nature in stride, had narrated. "Jester Chip makes a leap of faith, soaring clear across the Grand Dame and cutting her with gleeful savagery..." and then the next move... "only to be betrayed by his own thoughtlessness and run through by the Cracked Peasant! Woe is he!" Ty almost giggled at the memory. Stories were fun.

"Exactly! Ty has it right. Besides, imagine the stories their files must hold if we can get into their service records! You don't get to be a Captain just by having a pretty smile," the newcomer added. "And let's be honest, playing Thirteen and Egyptian War for four hours is nobody's idea of fun. Nobody's."

"I...already agreed..." Isaac mumbled, staring at his feet. He would be quiet now.

He happened to like card games, anyhow.

Cassandra had, at this point, exhausted her potential options, up to and including quite literally beating her head against the wall in boredom.

Being non-mentally disturbed, she had spent a very brief period of time doing this.

It was luck to her, then, that she spotted what seemed to be rapidly becoming her only friends in her new line of employment - Ty, Carlyle, Isaac, and... somebody. She had no idea who. He struck her as a little unsavory, the sort of guy who seemed nice enough until it was time to get out and he ran the fastest.

On the other hand, Cassandra had been given to bouts of paranoia before.

Whatever they were up to was unimportant, as long as it was something. She held off making vocal her entry until close enough to catch something about playing card games for hours being no fun.

"So did we find something creative to do? Someone brought a soccer ball or a gaming console or anything?" she demanded upon her approach. "It's about time."
