Hayate's expression changed after hearing Mao's name. He was naturally a very loving and passive person, but when it came to Mao, he couldn't control himself. He automatically became angry. "I don't mean to be rude, but I'd very much appreciate it if you didn't mention THAT man's name around me. He and I don't exactly see eye to eye. Anyway..." His expression quickly changed again as he calmed himself. "That's not exactly what IO had in mind. I really don't want to sound like a freak or some sort of a pervert, but you kind of look more like a Hatchi to me. A cute little puppy."

Nathan stared, then hid a smirk. So Mao had pissed off this guy too? He did have a knack for it!
He cleared his throat as he thought over the new nickname. "A puppy, huh? Well, I suppose you can call me Hatchi, though don't expect me to respond right away: that is definitely not a nickname I've had before.." he grinned, then sobered.
"Apologies. I did not know - haven't known him long either, so how would I? - but this shall be the last mention of him. Deal?" He raised his glass for Hayate to clink.

"No need to be so formal about it, but that sounds great. I don't want to sound like the mysterious guy so I might as well tell you. I don't know how open you are, but anyway... I like guys. And I kind of had a thing for that guy when I first met him. He seemed so cool and I was really into that type. Then I found out he's an annoying jerk who doesn't care about the emotions of anyone but himself."

Nathan found himself nodding in understanding. "I know exactly where you're coming from, because I've just decided I don't understand him and that he irritates me far too much for my health."
He leant close, as though sharing a secret. "Yes, that is my way of telling you that I am into guys as well..." The Angel winked as he went back to his original position.

Hayate smiled once more. He seemed like an excited child now. "That's awesome! I get so tire of having other guys act weird around me because of it. I mean, I don't think it's that weird, but others, except women, seem to think so. I don't really get it. When I was little I used to get teased and I would cry for hours. I'm glad my parents were actually accepting. Well, it would make sense since my dad's a civil rights activist and my mom's a pure flower child. Hahaha!." Hayate took a sip of his drink, set it down, then drank the rest in one swift motion. He then ordered another. "I'm so happy Hatchi. I can tell you and I are going to get along really well."

Nathan finished his drink, smiling at the expression on the musician's face. Then he gave into the urge he'd had when hearing of Hayate's childhood: he rose to his feet and gave the other man a hug.
"People can be such jerks, and I'm sorry you were teased..." he murmured, completely innocent and sincere as he held Hayate in a tight grip that was meant to soothe him.

Hayate wrapped his arms around Nathan and pulled him back. He meant to merely play around with Nathan, but he ended up making them both fall to the ground.

Nathan squeaked, then laughed as he began to try and disentangle them. "S-sorry! If we move that way, then let go then I can help you up!"
His face had lit up when he laughed, and now the warmth had almost fully returned to him - the friendliness and openness that had been slightly hidden when he first met Hayate.

Hayate let go of Nathan and laughed. "I'm sorry for that. I honestly didn't mean to make you fall, but either way I'm glad I was here to break your fall."

Nathan blushed slightly, then stood to offer his hand to pull Hayate up. "I don't mind - I enjoyed your breaking my fall..." He frowned. "As long as I didn't hurt you in the process!"
His cheek gave a small throb, and he used the hand that wasn't extended to rub at the patch Mao had placed there.

Hayate laughed as he got up with Nathan's help. "Not at all. I'm just fine." He then noticed Nathan's actions. "Hey, are you alright? I didn't hurt you more than you were before did I?"

Nathan blinked, then realised what Hayate had said. "No - it just decided that now was the perfect time to start itching!" He shrugged as he forgot that he still held the other man's hand. "I dropped a beer glass at work yesterday and a shard bounced at me..."

Hayate took a quick look at the bandage. "Maybe you should take that one off and get a new one. It looks like that one's barely staying on. Hayate reached out his hand and placed his fingertips to Nathan's cheek.

The Angel gave an involuntary shiver, smiled shyly and released Hayate's hand without stepping back. "I doubt it'll be bleeding anymore... though I suppose I could wipe around it and ask for another plaster..." he murmured.

"You kinda sound like you don't even want to take it off. Is it magical or something?" Hayate smiled innocently. He finished his second drink and sighed. "Do you want to go sit upstairs? They have a pretty cool lounge area up there where we could keep talking. It's not as noisy or crowded up there usually either."
