The little Pae whines and wiggles when Eudora picks him up. He managed to wriggle out of her grasp and crawls over to Elizabeth. He hides behind her, clinging to her leg.

"Wonder what I did to merit that," says Elizabeth, peering down at her self-appointed charge. "It's not as if I'm any less threatening than her."

He looks up at her with big blue eyes and sucks his thumb.

"Lizzie, he's so cute! Can we keep him?" asks Amapola, bouncing on her toes for emphasis.

"Keep him? He isn't a pet, Amapola. And if he doesn't let go of my leg I suppose we'll have to take him home with us." Elizabeth looks at Cabel for support, completely unsure of what to do.
PostPosted: Wed Jun 17, 2009 10:54 am

"Awww..." Eudora pouted, sulking a bit.

Cabel chuckled softly, reaching out to ruffle his daughter's hair. "No, looks like you can't keep him, dear," he joked. Thinking back to his own unusual 'birth', he smiled at Elizabeth. "Well, maybe he saw you first when he err...hatched. Either way, it seems that he's adopted you in any case. As young Pae tend to do around Telrunya, I think he's chosen his own home. Hopefully, you don't mind too much, or I'd offer to take him myself. I doubt he'd be too happy with that offer though."

Still, the child was unlike anything Cabel had ever seen. He was familiar with Angelics, Demonics, Fae, even Naiads...but the hooved child was something altogether new. He still carried the general traits of a Pae though, if of a species the male fae had never seen before. Though, with all the mysteries of Telrunya, why would that be so unheard of?

Eudora shook off her disappointment, preoccupied with the cutie 'hiding' just feet away from her. She giggled, leaning down and waving at the little tot with her fingers. "Hi there, sweetie! Can you wave? Say hi?"

It was indeed very strange that they didn't know anything of this war Faroth was speaking of. It was a war. Wars are definitely not something easily forgotten, but Faroth also implied that the war happened a very long time ago, so long ago that he wasn't putting a good estimate on it. The demonic pursed his lips in thought.

"Say," he offered, "what if it happened so long ago that the knowledge has been lost to the ages? I really wouldn't want to go to Rais unless I have to, but I have to wonder if he would be the only person who would know about it."

That was an interesting thought. "Lad," he was clearly referring to Faroth, "how old is that guy anyway? He seems old and crotchety as is, but do ya have any clue how long he's been around?"

"Pssh, he better not be the only source of information," huffed Magnus. "If there was a war as important as implied, there was no way anyone could have done that good of a cover up." He refused to believe anyone had that ability, even those Guardians Texas claimed had powerful abilities. After all, even he admitted that there were some things they couldn't do.

"It doesn't seem likely that he's the only thing out there, but think about it." Texas sighed lightly. "We've never heard about this war, and our elders don't seem to know anything about it either. I suppose the Headquarters would be our only other chance of finding anything."

The little faun liked the variety of sounds that were coming out of their mouths. The little puffs of air that Magnus and Texas let out made two different types of sounds, and the little boy quietly tried to echo them himself, very intrigued by all of the sounds the Pae'il's mouths could make.

"No," he says, proceeding to bury his face in Elizabeth's leg. He hugs her tighter, and after a moment he looks up to Elizabeth and makes grabby hands at her. "Up!"

Elizabeth sighs softly and picks him up, holding him on her hip as he hides his face in her shoulder. "No, I don't mind," says Elizabeth. "It'll just take some getting used to, having a child around the house." There goes her peace and quiet. Although she hadn't had that in a while, not since Amapola learned to speak.

"Ooh, isn't it exciting?" asks Amapola, grinning. "He's so tiny and sweet!"

How old was Rais? Good question.

Faroth shrugged helplessly, sad he didn't seem to have any more useful information. "I dunno. Older than me is all I know."

"No, really?" Kane snorted.

"Isn't it rude to ask someone how old they are?"

This was going nowhere and fast. "Look," he said, growing tired of this. "I'm up for hitting the HQ. If we don't find anything there at all, we'll talk about what to try next. Not everyone can be completely clueless about an entire war."

Teigra
Serefina shot down the narrow, winding crevasse, twisting and turning while keeping up her speed to avoid any outcroppings and not lose sight of the other Naiad. She'd been hurt at first, bewildered by the other's behavior, but as time went on and the 'chase' continued, she felt herself only getting more angry.

How dare he act like that? Such rude behavior! Ooo, he was gonna' get such a talking to when she caught up with him!

"You!" she shouted, finally nearing as the ravine started to widen. She hadn't noticed much change in her surroundings, as focused as she was on the other Naiad. "Stop this stupid chase and get back here and face me like a man! What was with that earlier? Do you know how rude that is? Turning and running from someone like that, acting like they scared y--"

She'd been so furious in ranting, she'd missed that her quarry had stopped suddenly and she slammed into the back of him, unable to stop in time. "ACK! Hey! What's the big idea?!? And what'd you say just now...whoa, what the heck is that...?" She blinked, staring out at the great openness, like a giant mouth threatening to engulf them both.

A loud noise and a surging rush in the current were enough to bring the male back to his senses. Closing his gaping jaw, he started to turn toward the commotion, a sudden remembrance of the fear from moments earlier. However the boy was slow, too slow. Impact was inevitable, and the naiad was totally caught unprepared.

"OOMPH," Calder grunted as he was propelled out into the lagoon, receiving in the process a face full of water. Luckily he was a naiad or he'd be spitting and sputtering. He pulled his head back up out of the water, hair clinging to his face. He had just been ambushed! Some HUGE GIGANTIC EVIL THING had just barreled him over while shrieking like a banshee. Now... he was going to die; he knew it. But he was so young. So much life left to lead. This is what he got, he reasoned, for disobeying his mother and leaving the safety of the reef.

Turning, he pushed his purple hair from his face and found that this was no monster, but a female. She was approximately the same size as his mom, maybe a little curvier but in a good way. The difference was startling though; her skin was red and yellow like a fiery sunset. Her hair, like his mothers, was black as night and long, though she had it currently pulled back. Being never so near another naiad like this he was confused, surprised, and taken aback... let's just say the epitome of social awkwardness.

After a long wide-eyed, probably creepy to Serefina, sort of pause, Calder tried to squeak an answer and backpedaled toward one of the lounging rocks. Ok so she wasn't a monster... however was about three million times more scary to Calder than any monster would have been. Out of the frying pan and into her fiery wrath...

{{ Ack! I'm so behind sorry!}

Lhiannan turned around back to the forest searching for the mountain that had erupted seemingly overnight. She half didn't believe him but to her shock found that it was indeed true, the peak poking above the treeline with spoke pouring out in thick heavy clouds. "When did that appear?" She wondered out loud to herself.

She frowned, contemplating his words. Was there something bad about Dragnid? He didn't seem to like the forest much. While it wasn't always the safest place, it was her home and there was a certain amount of affection for it.

After hesitating for a moment more she agreed with him. "Alright. While I am reluctant to leave my home this smell is truly horrible and giving me an awful headache. I've not explored much of the island however so you must lead the way."

Alaera chuckled watching the two little ones play, distracted for a moment as she watched Takeko leave to greet her sons. "See" she said speaking to Melek "I told you it would be fun."

Lorne squealed with laughter, twisted this was and that desperately trying to escape from the torment.

"Watch his hooves" Alaera warned. "You wouldn't want to get hit in the face with those.

"Yeah, there wasn't an ocean or any other Lighthouses then. I wonder if we should move it...or if we even could." Apollo thought about that aloud then looked to his mom with a nod. "It has a nice view and it is nice."

Eclipse smiled as he walked along as well. He didn't think moving it would be easy, but it was odd now. Then again maybe the lake could use a lighthouse? Why change just because the isle did?

Coronus nooded back with a smile. "It would be a hard thing to move for I bet that it is really heavy any why do we have to change just because the island moved A lighthouse can be used by people who are not at sea just as well as people at sea. It could help your girl friend find her way to you." She then looked at Eclipse "or help us find our way to you." As they walked the ground sloly became softer and was getting between the paes toes. Coronus stopped for a second and pulled off her slipper type shoes holding them in one hand.

Eudora pouted, disappointed when the child wouldn't play with her. "Daddyyyyy! He doesn't like meeeee," she complained, sulking slightly and poking at the dirt.

Rolling his eyes discretely, Cabel distractedly ruffled his daughter's hair in a soothing fashion. "There, there, give him time, dear. He's probably scared of all the noise and big people around!" He turned his attention back to Elizabeth with a chuckle. "Oh, it does. And it's a learning experience unlike any other. Here's hoping you have better luck keeping things away from him than I did with Eudora." He laughed again, doubting they'd have similar issues. Eudora had been a special case on that front.

---

Luckily for Calder, Serefina was momentarily distracted from her rage by the sight of the lagoon ahead. So much open water beyond...but it tasted...salty? How strange.

It was a puzzle, that much was for sure, but where to start on solving it? That was a puzzle in itself. "What...is it?" she murmured, still staring. Only when the other Naiad started flailing and squeaking in a panic did she remember he was even there. Oh yeah, and she was mad at him.

Turning with a glowering stare, she raised an eyebrow at the male's behavior. "Oh, cut that act out! It's not funny anymore, and it never was." She crossed her arms over her chest, looking away with a pout. Men...always thought they were sooooo hilarious, especially when they were making you feel bad. She was lucky she didn't have more issues, considering the idiots she'd put up with in the past. The rare times she had anyone to put up with.

When the male didn't respond, her temper flared up again. "Hey!" she snapped, facing him again. "Aren't you going to say anything? I know you can talk...you said something a while ago. Even if it didn't sound like any word I've ever heard before. Still, it was a word. How about another word? 'Sorry.' Repeat after me, 'soh-ree'," she said slowly and pointedly, leaning in to make eye contact.

---

Also staring up at the smoking mountain, Devyn shrugged. "No idea...wasn't there last night, as far as I remember." Though was it only last night? He felt too groggy when he'd woken up for it to have only been a single night. And too 'thirsty.'

Her 'home?' He knew some Pae lived in Dragnid, but...she seemed too nice to be one of them! But...if she said she did, then he'd believe her. Why would anyone lie about living in that place after all? He nodded, remembering not to offer her his arm this time. "Sure, 's no problem, I can lead. I know the rest of the area pretty well. We'll put some distance between us and that smoking heap first, then decide where else to go once we can think clearly again."

He set off, glancing back from time to time to make sure she was following. And...because he wanted to. Finally, his curiosity getting the better of him, he had to ask, "So...you really live back there, in Dragnid? What's it like?"

---

Melek giggled as well, minding Alaera's warning about the hooves. Those certainly wouldn't feel too good against his face, that was for sure! Still, he squirmed as well, reaching out from a safe distance to keep tickling the tot, leaving both children suitably distracted and entertained.

"Fine" Nitidu merely stated as she patted Cutter's shoulder before bringing her face in closer so that she could read what the note said. If distracted by something, say, reading, Nitidu could be very calm. And Cutter was there, and he was nice, so she'd be safe, right?

Arvid took a couple of lengthy steps in towards Saffron's mum and waved.

"Hullo there ma'am, it's nice to meet you," he said with a smile, then tilted his head at what she said afterwards.

"Oh, so do you know what's going on?" he asked.

Cutter smiled as he watched her read. She was calmer than she had been, that was good. He looked around and saw Arvid and Saffron talking to a few other pae. He wasn't sure Nitidu would want to go over with so many strangers.

Aspen watched the faun toddler and Melek. He couldn't help but chuckle as the two were rather funny. He then turned to Saffron. "Hi, son. I'm glad to see you are ok."

Even though Texas had to wonder if they had already found the person who wouldn't be entirely clueless, Kane had a point. There had to be something, right? Hopefully, it wasn't Rais, because no one seemed very inclined to go to him for information at this point. "Alright, Headquarters it is." The demonic moved Vangelis around in his arms a little before standing to his feet surprisingly easily; this wasn't the first toddler he had lugged around like this.

Oh not the Headquarters. Erylia lived there. ...Well, he hadn't seen her in ages and he was naturally lucky, so he would naturally avoid her entirely. Criofan offered a somewhat feigned smile. "Alright, let's go to the Headquarters."

"Stop talking," demanded Magnus, before he started ahead to the Headquarters, even though he really hadn't a clue where the hell he was going in all of these trees. He was a man of action, not of indecision! Even if he was going in the totally wrong direction.

Criofan glanced to the direction where he had come from earlier and then turned to Magnus who was marching off in a different direction. So, he strolled over to Magnus, pinched his ear, and then dragged him behind him in the right direction.

"Ow ow ow ow ow."

"Thank you," says Elizabeth. "Does he have a name already...? Or do we give him one? I don't remember how I got my name, or how Amapola got hers....."

The little one distractedly plays with Elizabeth's short hair, only tugging once or twice. He seems content, if not happy outright.

Amapola watches the toddler. "Now...who would know more about him, maybe? Like why he has hooves and stuff? Maybe he's related to what's been going on around the island!"
PostPosted: Sun Jun 21, 2009 5:59 pm

Takeko nodded briefly. "Well, I can tell you about what I know at least." She then launched into a lengthy explanation about the changes on the Isle, such as the formation of the canyon where Chai'en River had once flowed peacefully, then making their way to the HQ where they learned the Isle had fallen into the ocean where they now floated. Then the arrival of the strange acorn...which gave way to a strange hooved Pae child who now played nearby with Melek.

"Sadly, we still have no official knowledge on just what the dear tot really is," she finished, shaking her head. "He seems to be a Pae'il though, as far as I can tell. Perhaps a race we've never seen before, as odd as that is." It had happened before...why not now?

Nodding briefly at his father with a smile, Saffron held back his greetings for later so that he wouldn't interrupt his mother while she spoke. He listened carefully as she related her own tale, shaking his head in disbelief as she finished. He peered over her shoulder for a moment where Melek and the strange toddler played. "A new race? Could it be really? But...where did he come from? The acorn I mean. It had to have come from somewhere and definitely not around here. We'd have seen them before," he reasoned logically.

---

Kane rolled his eyes...crazy Pae with no sense of direction. He shot Faroth a quick glare, commenting darkly. "Hey, you...use your own damn hooves, hear me?" With that, he started shifting to tiger for the journey. It was easier to travel that way...plus, he had an excuse not to talk to anyone for a while. Win-win situation.

Faroth blinked at Kane, not understanding at first, then realization dawning as the demon turned tiger. "Aww...come on. I'm sure you could carry me easy! It'd be nothing for a big, strong kitty like you!"

A warning growl and a flash of fangs as big as Faroth's hands said otherwise.

"You're no fun," Faroth pouted, sticking his tongue out at the tiger...who cared little. Honestly, Faroth had no trouble with walking. He wasn't tired and he could easily keep up with the adults with his energy level. He just thought the idea of riding a tiger through the forest would be totally cool!

Maybe later.

So, scrambling ahead, Faroth took the lead for a bit...then paused, falling back. "Forgot I dunno where we're going," he chuckled.

Behind, there was a soft muffled sound...like a tiger's paw on his muzzle.

---

Cabel nodded, explaining as best he could. "It's tricky and hard to know if the child finds its way to you. However, in this case, I think it's safe to assume he was just 'born', as it were, and probably doesn't have a name yet. So...it's up to you, I suppose, dear."

"Why's he got hooves anyway?" Eudora rambled, looking down at her own feet. "I don't have hooves. You don't either...so why's he got 'em? He looks like a baby deer," she giggled, making little waving motions to the tot once more, even if he didn't seem to like her as much as Elizabeth. "Someone's gotta' know something somewhere? Let's go ask! Um, um, um...I dunno anyone else in the forest who would know, so maybe at the HQ? They got all kinds of stuff there and people are always around somewhere. I've been there a couple times! Maybe someone there will know?"

Cabel shot his daughter an odd look. When had she been to the HQ? On one of her many wanderings was all he could guess...

The leprechaun was quickly growing tired of this. He mumbled something about them all being a bunch of eejits, and while not letting go of Magnus' ear, he dragged the fae in the direction where the Pae'il Headquarters was. He knew it wasn't too far from his original entry to the forest, and so, basically retraced his steps until he could find the edge of the forest again.

Magnus eventually was able to get himself out of Criofan's ear death grip, but not without a lot of pain. The faerie groaned, rubbing his ear and trudging after Criofan. The sooner they could get to the stupid Headquarters, the better. Walking to places without anything interesting to see was boring. He wished he had some kind of ability to make time go by faster... or at least seem more interesting. Why didn't he bring a flask with him?

Texas and Vangelis were really ignoring all of them, though they were following, even if they were somewhat trailing behind. The demonic was making somewhat babyish noises and Vangelis and the little boy would sometimes giggle in his delight--admittedly, it would probably seem a little adorable if anyone in the group really cared.
