so, then, they jus post requests and you give em your idea and they pay for it? well, then i'd like to try that...cuz i'm really needing some gaia $ for my dream avi!!!!

What I would suggest is to post examples, and place a price for each one.
Next you will want a waiting list. That way you can limit the ammount you will do at a time.
People in the RC forum like to see artists that have request forms, here is an example of one:

It helps you get an idea of what they would like more.
Have a set of rules, and clearly state what you are willing, and unwilling to draw.
