Kalypso smiled at her. "Thanks Eclipse." he said. He then noticed the man in the pasture and he immediately stiffened. Hatred returned to his eyes and he pinned his ears back flat against his head. Out of sheer instinct, he automatically stepped in front of Eclispe for her protection. He didn't care if the gelding liked the human, his impulse was to attack and kill, but much to his surprise, he found himself fighting the urge to kill the man. 'What's wrong with me? Not even two days ago, I wouldn't have even hesitated to kill him..know I'm resisting myself?' He shook his head out of annoyance at himself, then returned to his previos aggressive stance. Even with his internal conflict, he did not shift his position and remained rigid toward the man .

"So what do we do first?" Colonel shrugged and watched Radar and Destiny scratch each other as the mare flicked her tail to scare away flys from both her and Wildfire.
"Yes, he seems to be smart enough and not nearly as pushy as the others." She snorted as she watched the man and gelding.
Johnson laughed as the bay used him for a scratching post. "Alright, alright. What do you say to showing the wild ones how we work?" The gelding pranced in place and tossed his head. Johnson picked up a saddle pad and placed it on the geldings back, followed by the simple saddle. He fastened the saddle and then offered the bit to the horse. The bay eagerly took the bit and the man fastened the leather straps. Swinging himself into the saddle he clucked to the gelding and set out in a wide circle at a walk.

Eclipse pinned her ears as she saw the man coming into the pasture. She wondered how the bay could enjoy the contact because they could be so cruel. She backed up a couple of steps and kept her ears pinned, but didn't move. Her muscles were taut, ready for flight. She was very grateful for Kalypso being a barrier between her and the man. What do they want now?

"Hmm how 'bout you decide."Gwen said trying to decide what she wanted to do first.
"When they were foals the others just wanted to race. Flare never seemed to be interested in that. I always noticed him watching me."Path said ears flicking back and forth as he watched the man on the gelding.

"Nope, not this time. It's your brithday so you decide." Colonel smiled and placed a hand on her shoulder.
She honned one ear on the pair and watched them but stood relaxed, as they kept away from the other horses. "I remeber that." Path was young for a single ruleing stallion, as most his age were either in bachlor groups or had paired up with other stallions in order to hold mares. Konoha laughed thinking of the racing foals and the trouble they would get into.
Johnson asked the bay to trot and then canter. The gelding responded happily with his ears perked forward. They looped around the pasture before the man asked anything difficult of the horse. Reining him to the left the bay spun around and cantered the other direction. They repeated this action several times.

Eclipse kept an eye on the man and the gelding the entire time he was riding around the pasture. She kept her ears pricked in his direction as well. How could he like that? He has to do whatever the man asks. She reluctantly decided that the maneuver he was performing now would at least be useful in avoiding predators; she couldn't, however, see what the point of doing it several times was.
She decided to see if she could talk to the gelding; it was worth a shot, at least. She loudly neighed, "Why do you do as he asks all the time?" Her attention was still fearfully attuned to the man on the horse.

"How 'bout a snack and then that race?"Gwen said with a grin.
"My dam thinks its about time I pick a lead mare."Path said softly sighing. He wached the gelding, not looking at Konoha.

"Alright a snack it is." Colonel went to Radar's packs and dug through them. He pulled out a bundle of furit, containing apples and peaches. He picked an apple and held the sack out to Gwen.
Konoha perked her ears and looked at him. It was a strange topic to bring up and something she was not expecting. "You should wait till your ready." She said the only thing she could think of.
The gelding flicked his ear in Eclipse's direction. Johnson took notice when the bay slowed during a turn to look at the mare. It was just what he wanted so he slowed the horse and looped the reins loosely around the saddle horn, letting the horse do as he pleased. The bay trotted lightly over to the mare, stopping several feet away. "Why? Because he is my friend. He listens as much as he asks. I do not do as he says all the time. The man sat calmly on the geldings back, not looking at the other horses and maintaing a non threating posture.

"Well......"Path mumbled. He realized how much he wanted to ask her to be the lead mare, he just did not know how to ask. He looked at the ground pawing at it.
Gwen grabbed an apple. She took out her pocket knife and sliced a piece of the apple and held it out to her mare. Wildfire eagerly took it.

Kalypso's temper boiled over as the gelding stopped a distance away from Eclipse. Even several feet away was too close for him. He wheeled around to face the gelding, again stepping in front of Eclipse, barring the gelding from her. He reared up to full height, towering over the gelding even at a distance, and screamed. It was an ear-splitting sound that sounded like a demon's cry. He landed hard on his forelegs, his muscles bunched up visably beneath his black coat now gleaming with sweat. He bared his teeth at the man and the gelding and spoke, his voice was harsh and threatening, it didn't even sound like him talking. "Boy, you better keep moving and get your human outta here..." he said as his eyes shown with hatred.

Colonel munched on his apple, instead of sliceing off a piece of his apple he took another from the bag and cut it into slices. He scattered the peices in front of the horses, leaving them to eat what they wanted.
Sensing his uneasy Konoha nuzzled him gently. While her ears flicked to Kalypso she kept her attention on Path. Useing her muzzle she lifted his, "What is it?"
The bay flattened his ears and Johnson grabbed the saddle horn. The gelding didn't flinch in any other way but stood his ground. Without speaking he backed a few steps and then turned. Walking quietly away the gelding trembled under Johnson as the man looked over his shoulder and shook his head. Turning back to the gelding he let the horse stop himself then slid out of the saddle. "Now now don't let him get to you. He's just protecting the mare." Walking around to face the gelding he wrapped his hands gently around the gelding's muzzle and hugged him.

When the gelding had come closer, Eclipse's heart rate had gone up. She was ready to run at an instants notice. She glared at the gelding, not replying to what he was saying. She muttered, "Friend, right."
Suddenly she realized how worked up Kalypso was. She walked up to him slowly and whispered, "Kalypso? I think he backed off..." She watched him with a worried expression, not sure what he would do next.

"Well......I uh.........um."Path stuttered blushing. He knew he sounded like an idiot.
Gwen ate her apple leaning slightly against Wildfire. She gazed at the river. She was more comfortable in places like this than she would ever be at the Fort.

"Path?" She looked at him, concerened. Konoha had never seen him act this way before and was worried that something might be wrong.
Colonel munched and laughed when Radar nipped Destiny for stealing a peice of apple he thought was his. "I've rarely stayed outside of towns or forts but some day I'd love to."

"Its more peaceful and there is less to worry about."Gwen said laughing as Wildfire grabbed as much apple as she could while the other two were distracted.
"Well I was wondering if you would be my lead mare?"Path blurted quickly. He looked away sure she would say no.
