She remembered nothing, knew of nothing... Her head hurts...as if from thousands of probing needles. Hana did not even resist when her limp body was dragged along. The only thought in her mind...she thought only of that...she must protect that scroll in the pockets of her dress with her life... But why...was it so important? And how strange...she had fallen into a river - though how she had, she did not know - but the scroll was not damaged. All her other scrolls had been turned into useless mush, except for that one...

To the guards, it had probably been strange...downright curious. How did this child fall into this condition? She didn't lose any of her possessions either, still had her katana and weapons...so that would rule out an attack by bandits... However, judging by her new clothes...she must've come into some outside contact. ...report...she has to make...a report... What report? ...of...the scroll...

While Arashi was still looking for Kira, he spotted a curious site. A man pulling a girl through the streets with some others following. "What the? Haven't I seen that girl before?" he asked himself queitly and began to follow them out of simple curiousity. Arashi couldn't help at that moment but skip along after them, not really even bothering to blend in with everything that was around him.

Lavi hopped down to the street. His boots clopping on the stone a few older villagers looked up at him startled that he had come from the sky. But he just wanted to get as far away from Shif as he could, the embarrassment was almost too much to bare. Eagerly he slipped through the crowd, he wasn't sure exactly where he was going, maybe just to train or find the kage. He hadn't checked in since last night. But his eyebrow arched up as he saw Raine and some guards hauling a girl, some people had even gathered to watch. Sighing at the thought of the mischievous things that Raine would no doubt have gotten himself into while he was gone. Pressing through the viewers Lavi stepped up behind Raine and grabbed his shoulder. "What's going on!" He flung his hand through his hair in anxiety. While the guards stopped to look at them.

The little boy turned with a start, when he felt a hand on his shoulder. Looking up at Lavi he gave a harmless look "I was just trying to help! This lady just passed out and these guys were taking her back to my house so my mom could look after her." he pointed to the guards. Who smiled awkwardly, not really sure of the situation.

Lavi smacked Raine on the head, not hard enough to hurt but enough to get the point across, "What do you know about this?! You're mom is gonna kill you if I don't first. Bah come on." he picked Raine up playfully and threw him across his shoulder. Walking towards the guards with the struggling child,"Take her to the clinic, and don't trust this kid with directions! He's like eight!" Some of the villagers laughed and smiled, while Lavi sighed and walked up a stairway behind a few buildings, Raine still struggling and fighting like it was the end of the world. He dropped the boy to his feet and held his shoulders. "You need to learn how to think before you act. I've only known you for a day and a half and yet...."

Raine stopped to listen when Lavi's voice became somewhat serious.

"Someone should teach you a thing or two about acting properly and respect." He didn't really intend on lecturing the kid, just telling him what was obvious. Nothing big, even a joke to Lavi, but when he said 'respect' and Raine's head dropped to the ground he knew he had gone too far.

The small boy felt crushed. His eyes burned and he tried not to cry, but how could Lavi say such a thing? At once, he felt anger and hurt. His muscles tightened in his defensive state and hardened under Lavi's fingers.

The phenomenon was weird and Lavi let go of the boy's arms from a sort of disgust at the feeling. Once his hands were free the boy set off at a sprint. Higher into the streets toward the middle of the village, he turned into an alley with only the sound of his shoes clicking in the distance. <********." Lavi whispered setting off behind him.

Shif strolled into the village. He noticed it was quite anticlimactic that noone welcomed him or that noone was waiting to see him finally WALK through a doorway."meh...i atleast thought SOMEONE would care about that..." he said as he took a few steps into town...it seems he had JUST missed something from the looks of things.

"All to easy," the raven haired teen said smugly as he walked right past the gates. That would not have happened when he was last here. But perhaps it was because then there had been a war and suspicion amongst the other ninja of the village. At that moment, Shiran passed by Shif with hardly a glance at him, not realizing that the shinobi had almost come upon him earlier. "This village is filled with half asses. Disgraceful," he muttered aloud as he passed. This time, he would make sure to have his meeting with the kage. Wether he had to use force or not.

Lavi ran up behind the boy, slowly. Not really feeling the need to go full out. The streets were still gloomy but as the sun rose higher in the sky, the mist that filled the air dissipated somewhat and everything felt fresh. "Raine, Stop, Please!" He yelled a few feet in front of him,"Come on you know I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. I was just joking." The boy stopped and Lavi smiled, slowing to a walk and standing behind him. "Come on Raine, I would never want to make you cry. You're my little buddy." he sounded light hearted but Raine was still turned and he couldn't see a reaction.

Raine felt so crushed by that one word RESPECT How could Lavi possibly be his friend if he had said such a mean thing. Of all the things that the older boy could have said, he had to say that. Respect meant so much to him. It was everything, his anger flared when Lavi called him his little buddy. Raine flung around with his fist clenched. He thrust with his entire body at Lavi's stomach. "AH!!" His fist connected, and Lavi buckled forward in surprise. He was caught out of breath with a look of utter astonishment on his face. Raine also stepped back and stared in surprise.

"Holy crap!" Lavi said, lifting his head back up and looking at Raine."What was that? I was just apologizing." His reply was humorous, which surprised Raine. His anger replaced by awe at what he had just done a smile worked it's way across his face.

"I got you good!" He smiled and loosened up, his fist still clenched in victory.

"Damn, kid. You really pack a punch." He said truthfully, it was fast he barely saw it coming. Lavi Undid his jacket and pulled up his yellow T. A small red spot where the tiny hand had connected moved over his abs as he breathed. Setting back his shirt he was happy that Raine wasn't crying anymore. He looked into the clearing sky. He knew saying sorry would only bring up Raine's feelings, whatever they were. His stomach broke his thought though, and Lavi's attention turned to his tummy. "Dude, I'm really hungry."

Raine looked down at his own tummy, that grumbled a bit. "Yeah, me too. Can we go get some ramen?" His blue eyes perked up through his hair.

Oh, you mean can I get some ramen for you." He joked a bit and turned around back toward the village. "Hmm, I would if I could but I don't have any ryo." Raine looked down, it would take forever to get back home and all they had were chips which Lavi had probably already eaten the night before. Lavi saw this and perked up. "Jeeze don't worry, haven't you ever had to make a honest living? I'll teach you a really good trick, It's called begging." He laughed and gestured for Raine to follow him as he set back toward the village.

As the boys walked through the street together toward the center of the village where many people were bustling. Lavi explained to Raine what he was supposed to do. "You're are perfect for this job, because you're small and young. PLus you look like you've been left on the street for years." He pulled at Raine's hoody that was completely coated in much, his head was bandaged and he had scrapes and cuts all over his face. "But..." Lavi pulled him forward to look at him. "Your hair might loose you some points" Raine grimaced, he loved his hair due. "It's cool and all, but you look like some punk. People just think badly of punks." He sighed, "I guess it's just going to have to work. Now I want you to go out there and kneel down, hold your hands up. And look as if everyone you've ever known to exist has died." He pantomimed the technique and gave a puppy face.

Raine scrunched his face up, "That sounds stupid, why would I do that!"

"Trust me. Now go!" Lavi pushed him out into the busy market area and walked back into the alley to sit on a garbage can. Watching from a distance.

Raine stumbled out after Lavi pushed him. This seemed stupid, but he just rolled his eyes and sat down on the street. People walking by looked at him oddly. He was very dirty. He'd definitely have to take a long shower tonight, maybe he's even was his face off in a fountain somewhere. Not wuite sure what to do, Raine pulled up his eyebrows like Lavi had told him and stuck his hands in front of him. As if he were holding a heavy ball. His arms already hurt from his fight and it was hard to hold them up. While he sat, he thought about hitting Lavi. It astonished him, that he had actually done it. Maybe the older boy had allowed him to hit. But he acted so surprised...

Suddenly an old women came up to him, and he looked up at her unsure of what she was doing. She frowned and said, "Oh you poor, sweet child." Than she pulled a small purse and handed him coins. He didn't say a word. And she frowned, "May, god be with you." Than walked away. Raine sat bewildered by the cold coins in his hand. She had given him three coins. He smiled once he saw the money. And looked back into the alley to see Lavi, but he wasn't in sight. He smiled anyway and put them in his pocket.

This was quiet a good trick. Raine thought as he stuck his hands out again. Pulling his face into the sadest expression he could manage and looked down out the ground. His hair fell over his eyes and he watched the feet of people walking by. Some slowed to look at him, and others sped up to avoid him. He wondered why people did that, and left his head c**k to the side as his thoughts wondered away. Once he had seen someone begging on the street, it was a very old man who had long, crazy hair. And he picking at the garbage cans. Raine had seen him while taking a short cut way back through the village to get to Mashida's house. The man yelled and swore, he had ran home crying. A coin hit the ground in front of him. And Raine started a bit. An older boy had thrown it at him, and it spun on the ground before settling. He waddled out on his knees and grabbed it, turning to say thank you this time. But the boy had walkde away.

Raine's knees ached on the dirt and when he pulled them up to give them a break they were red and small pebbles stuck to his skin. He brushed them off and leaned up against the wall of a house. The cool brick felt good on the back of his head. He tried to make himself look like he was about to cry. holding out his hands above his head. After awhile they got tired and he had to prop them on his knees, which were cut up from landing on the pavement in his fight this morning. That was so cool, I totally won! He thought, letting his eyes drift up to the sky. He thought of all the fights he had been in, or at least the ones that he could remember. It seemed as if he had won almost all of them, and it occurred to him that he might actually be a good ninja. He was strong, and fast enough to hit Lavi. He waited and waited as people walked by, one by one they just avoided him. No one gave him anything for a long time. And he checked back toward the alley to see if Lavi was watching his failure. Why would no one give him anything? It hurt his feelings and he sat up again. Getting back on his knees. Even if it hurt, it might work better.

Raine looked desperately now, if had been nearly ten minutes since he had gotten his last coin. And the people that passed did the same as always. They looked away, or avoided him. Some kids pulled at their parents hands and pointed to him, they just hurried along. What was wrong with everyone? He certainly looked like he needed help. Maybe they just didn't have any money on them. Raine thought. Holding out his hands, and this time he added in a small voice. "Please help me. Please...."

Back in the alley Lavi, got bored, he stood and walked to the brick building in front of him. He took a breath and set his foot on the wall which stuck fast with his concentrated chakra. The he pushed quickly and stuck his other foot on the building, walking vertically to the roof. Once there he leaned forward and grabbed the edge of the roof with his hands and pulled his upper body over while letting the chakra in his feet dissipate. On the roof he looked over the city. It was a very flat place, with large round hills on the outskirts. While in front huge grassy fields spread out across the land. And than across the village was an open area he knew the rice fields lay. Lavi walked to the front of the building and looked down at Raine on the street. He watched in silence for a few minutes as no one came. He remembered all the days he and his sisters had set out and begged through the entire day. He knew too well, the feeling as each person walked by. Lavi even questioned subjecting Raine to that. But than again it was the quickest way to get money sometimes. It required the least amount of work. And Raine was the only one that could pull it off now that Lavi was too old.

Raine looked into the eyes of people passing by. They turned away. It felt so horrible to be treated like this. Raine looked back for Lavi, to ask if he could stop. Again he wasn't there, and Raine frowned. But suddenly he felt a hand on his shoulder and he turned around. A small girl even younger than himself, smiled and handed him two Ryo. He smiled back and said, "Thank you very much." She nodded and ran off through the crowd. The little girl made him feel better about all the looks he was getting and how bad he had felt before.

Lavi smiled as he got a bit more money. Confident in Raine's ability to handle himself. He stepped away from the roof. And jumped up to the next room. It was about time that he got to seeing this Kage.

(Exit to Kage's office)

Raine pocketed the coins, and counted them without looking. He had six now. That was pretty good. In his mind he went over Rima's menu and decided on Tokyo-Style Ramen. That was the most expensive, and the most delicious. Or maybe they should just use the money to buy some groceries and make a lunch. His mom would be so pr-

A pebble hit his cheek and Raine winced with shock. He looked up and saw an older boy running away. He sat trying to figure out why someone would do that to him. Why would anyone want to hurt him? He didn't cry, he was too tired. But the thought of his own villagers treating him like garbage was disturbing.

Raine rubbed his cheek and looked down into the still soggy dirt. His little face pouting and hopeless, the boy looked up over head to try and see if Lavi was watching, how embarrassing. Raine wanted to redeem his honor by getting more money. He helpd out his hand, and begged "Please, please help me. I'm so hungry" this was true, he hadn't eaten anything but some chips the night before.
A man stopped buy and frowned down at him, he threw a ryo at his lap and Raine snatched it from the air smiling. "Thank you, thank you sir." The man simply sighed and walked away. What an odd way to see the people in his village. He had never been treated this way before.

Raine sat silently holding out his hands and giving the puppy dog look that Lavi had showed him. No one came. No one cared. He sighed in a bit of boredom. This was some seriously stupid way of getting money. The boy thought of it as pitiful and dishonorable. But when he thought back to the day before and how he had worked all day long and not gotten a single cent. Here he was sitting on 7 ryo and he had only been out on the street for about 30 minutes. It just seemed mixed up.
