Unable to fight the heavy exertion, Akeru gave in to the temptation to close his eyes for a moment. He was so tired...and Yuumei had been coaching him harshly since the afternoon. But strangely, time flew, as if on wings. And he hadn't noticed time painfully tricking by...no, it was no longer painful. It was simply...there... Yuumei, with her rants and temper...like fire itself...was able to keep his mind away from dwelling on the painful past, even if this was only for the moment. While he was semi-asleep, the moonlight bathed around his figure, making his pale skin seem to glow. A strangely childish wish to be a star...perhaps was not so impossible after all...

After a moment or so, Akeru's eyes slowly opened. The moonlight made the depths of his eyes more visible, the layer directly surrounding the pupil appearing hazel wrapped in darker shades of gray and dark-blue. His hands fumbled a bit, but his fingers found the tiger seal. In a puff of smoke, Akeru disappeared, replaced by a single pebble which simply laid there. A moment passed before he resumed his form, yet still lying on the ground, expression blank.

He had successfully completed the first part of Yuumei's Henge lesson. Akeru should feel slightly pleased at least...but he...didn't feel anything. Now, for the second part to complete...but he should concentrate on recovering his chakra first. Akeru closed his eyes, willing to speed up the chakra molding process. It was true his body could recover chakra naturally...but that would take longer and thus waste highly necessary, valuable time... A chance to learn from a Sannin...he shouldn't waste it by sitting here idly, right?

Cp: 5/5

Almost done...just a little further... It sometimes irritated Akeru how long it took to mold chakra. Certainly it was a balanced process and all... A colorful explanation Elruda's mother, Lady Yokou used, filled his mind. Troublesome? Well...just think of chakra molding as two separate entities coming together to create one. Like the yin-yang symbol... Your mental energy draws the physical energy from your body, right? And the physical energy attracts the spirit. The two are thus inseparable - separate yet always one. If you can understand that, you won't find the process so tedious.

Earlier when Yuumei had showed him the scroll, the next part of the Henge lesson was a challenge to hold the transformation for two minutes. Akeru gulped slightly, that would mean he has one chance each time he is fully healed. Hn. A real challenge to his luck then. The slightest loss of concentration would mean he would instantly be forced to drop the Jutsu, the moment he is out of chakra. And if he's not careful, it's an auto trip to lala land...Yuumei probably being a bit too far away to notice. She'll probably assume he had fallen asleep while regaining chakra or something.

It never made Akeru very happy to know things solely depended on luck. The last he was concerned with, he wasn't kami-sama's favourite or anything like that. Akeru heaved a sigh as his attempt at Henge failed again. Twice he had failed now. He probably didn't have enough chakra now to hold the Jutsu for two minutes, even should his third attempt be a success. Dropping the lesson momentarily, Akeru concentrated on getting enough chakra back so he could resume the Henge assignment.

Fortunately, on his second try, Akeru managed to execute the Henge and maintain it properly for the required two minutes. Even after he dispersed the transformation, he had a bit of chakra left, which was good...meaning that he could actually exhibit control over his technique. Akeru tiredly rubbed his eyes, stifling a yawn. What time was it? It was getting really late... Probably way past the time he was supposed to go home. Saiya would be displeased...but Akeru wanted to get the Academy Jutsus down as quickly possible as Yuumei did.

As Akeru sat trying to regain his chakra, his mind briefly wondered if the Sannin-medic had ever taught anyone else before. But...from the fact that she was a traveling hermit, that would mean no right? The whole concept was still quite alien to him. Back in Konoha, he heard of that unofficial rank...given to the most revered shinobi of the village, second after the rank of Hokage. Leaders of prominent clans and other members of the Council of Elders were of course hailed as Sannins. But...they didn't really live a hermit life-style or travel around...

Then again, when it came down to Konoha...his home village probably had a much more different outlook on the Sannin position than elsewhere. It was...strange... How the title of Sannins came about in Konoha, anyways. From his history lessons, Akeru briefly remembered the tale behind that most famous trio, consisting of Tsunade, the revered Godaime Hokage, the renegade Sannin Orochimaru, founder of Otogakure no Sato, and the Gama-Sannin Jiraiya. Konoha had lost one battle to Ame's leader over six centuries back during their war...and their leader recognized Konoha's strength by giving those three the title of 'Sannin'. But...didn't that mean they were weak, inferior then? To be given a title by an enemy village... Maybe sometime he could ask Yuumei.

Akeru promptly turned his attention back to the lesson, with his chakra fully restored, concentrating on Henge with renewed vigor. He was close to finishing, so why should he give up? Besides...there were three more Jutsus to get through, there was no time for idling thought. If he tried hard enough, if he keeps running...could he someday reach there too? His traitor of a father, too, was once hailed as a Sannin - how strong really was Museifu...? Power second to the Hokage...no...some of the Sannins of the last generation could even surpass the Hokage. But if he himself was to become truly strongone day, then he'll have to use the Sannin title as a ruler...as a midpoint...to measure how he grows.

For a second time, Akeru managed to successfully complete his Henge transformation. In a puff of smoke, he had taken the appearance of a nearby tree and maintained the Jutsu for two minutes. Halfway there to his goal now... But this meager success still wasn't enough... It was taking him too long to just finish one basic Jutsu. At this slow rate of climbing...would he ever get to see the deeper side of the ninjutsu arts? To his surprise, Yuumei motioned for the boy to come over and she showed him a couple pieces of paper.

"But...what are these for...?" His eyes truly were wide with curiousity, what the Sannin had looked like normal pieces of paper. A smile answered him as she shoved one in his hand. It charred and began to blacken, startled Akeru dropped the paper and had to hurriedly snatch it as a breeze threatened to blow it away. "What in the world is this...?"
"That's chakra paper, made from a special tree which is highly sensitive to chakra. It reveals what chakra type you are. Jounins have two though obviously, as an Academy Student, your secondary chakra remains dormant for some time. I thought you would like something for encouragement." A pause, before she grumbled. "How boring... Fire chakra, huh? Figures with which clan you came from..."

"Chakra paper...?" With wide eyes, Akeru began observing the burnt piece of paper in his hand. It looked...so normal...not so different from what he was used to write on. Though that was sure surprising - how the card suddenly blackened and began to crumble up. "If I pass the Academy before your expectations, will you teach me how to defend myself?" The question came out slowly, almost unsurely, but a flare of determination certainly was there. Yuumei only nodded before waving a hand dismissively and told him to stay in sight. It was late after all, and after an invasion, she didn't like to trust the surrounding neighborhood so. The last thing she needed was for the kid to be kidnapped during her watch .

Maybe Yuumei's little demonstration did help... Akeru mused to himself, as he was able to successfully finish his Henge trail. Now, only one more trail remains, before he finished the required Academy quota. Akeru was...a bit surprised by how easily Yuumei agreed to his request to learn 'how to protect himself'. Akeru...did not have a desire to use ninjutsu for butchering, after all...and the honesty did show in his request. He had asked, because he needed to learn how to defend himself...should that man ever show his face again... And the last thing he wanted...was to burden others with that task...something which had cost him his dear brother...

Kokuyoku would not have liked to see Akeru so sullen, almost depressed. Yet sometimes Akeru couldn't help it, he had his happy, care-free moments but also moments where he thought things more deeply than he would've liked. Losing his family had made him more aware of the little things in life. Suddenly, everyone he met became precious...even Amaru with the thousands of arguments they shared. But his behavior no doubt left others questioning: why does he treat them as if in any moment...they may disappear...? Sometimes with a sad expression, other times unnecessary annoying 'clingy'...

Cp: 5/5

But this person was trying to keep him distanced. Akeru could feel it, with how little Yuumei would talk to him, outside of lesson after lesson. The message the Sannin-medic was giving was quite clear: grow up, stop being so reliant on others. And it would probably always remain that way. She would teach him how to defend himself...perhaps even more advanced Jutsus...but nothing more than that. In some ways, it made him feel a bit sad. His first unofficial sensei...but this was only for the time being.

When he had restored enough chakra, Akeru formed the Tiger handseal and in a puff of smoke, took the image of Yuumei. This time around, he wanted to do something different from a tree or rock - Yuumei, since she was the only person around. It was more difficult than henging into a pebble or branch, certainly...but he was proud that he had gotten her down accurately, to the last detail on her clothes. Now, the trick was to hold the technique for two minutes, without letting any of the details fade or blur out of view.

One minute passed slowly...before...ten seconds...twenty...thirty...and then finally another. At last, Akeru dropped the Henge, having finished his required quota. He casted a glance at Yuumei, wondering what will be the next lesson that she would teach. Kakuremino? He had a fair start on it...though it was how to spot through one using the Kakuremino invisibility cloaks... Nawanake? Or the Kawarimi? Truthfully, Akeru would rather choose the Kawarimi - get the three most important Jutsus down first before worrying about the others.

Tired, Akeru dropped back to the ground, trying to recover his chakra as quickly possible. Yuumei was watching him with a bored look in her eyes - as if displeased with how poorly he was holding. Feeling irritation welling up, Akeru shook his head violently to dispel the unpleasant feeling. Yes...he was partly responsible for how meager his chakra reserves were...for neglecting the proper training...but then again, his Academy superiors back in Konoha also were responsible...for neglecting half the class just because the class in his year was large...

Cp: 5/5

Almost... He truly didn't have as easy a hold his Hyuuga classmates did when it comes down to chakra - releasing, controlling, and molding. A small smile crossed his lips as he remembered Elruda piping up cheerfully once, when he had accidentally grumbled aloud something obscene. She told him it was part of their clan's abilities...so don't feel too bad about it... But then, she also chided him for not doing his homework... 'What you don't work for, you don't earn' were her exact words.

"Took you so long..." Yuumei grumbled slightly, her voice sounding slightly grumpy. "Well, why don't we take a break from Jutsus? Come here..." She motioned for the Uchiha boy to sit closer. "Do you have one of these?" Yuumei asked, pulling out her own flute. "Yes." Akeru replied, pulling out a rosemary wooden flute from his bag. "This was my mother's...now it's mine..." One of the few things he actually inherited since the authorities confiscated his father's possessions. Alright then! I will teach you how to play... First the notes. Oh, and don’t make it squeak! Do...re...mi...fa...so...la...ti... Try it.

"Um...ok..." Akeru wasn't so certain about this, though. He had never learned how to play a flute after all...wasn't this a bit on the sudden side? And how does it have anything to do with his training? Shakily, he tried to imitate how Yuumei held her flute and attempted to play the first note - 'do'. A sharp screech fill the forest instead of the pleasant notes the Sannin had previously played, so bad in fact that the screech forced Yuumei to cover her own ears. "G-gomen..." Akeru tried 'do' again, breathing lighter this time into the instrument instead of so harshly as before.

This time, a crystalline note filled the forest, softly at first and then extended gradually as Akeru pushed the note. Following do came re...then mi...fa...so...la...ti...and then Akeru finally played the first note again. Yuumei herself seemed a bit surprised that he had gotten it down so quickly but several times, had to readjust how he held the instrument. She motioned for the child to try again - this time without her help and replay just the basic notes before attempting anything more complex.
