For what it's worth, the light field mechanics work a lot better with the wiimote shooting. They could be kind of a pain on the gamecube.

Shooting the light fields was hard? That probably sucked.

The darkness didn't kill me often, but when that's all you have and it's a boss fight, come on.

Meta_Fish I didn't like two nearly as much as the other ones. It would have been a good game on its own, but since there are two other games like it that are better, it doesn't hold up as well for me. The final boss was also a b***h. I just have this nagging feeling that if I played it again I would like it a lot more and would have a better memory of it.

It's too bad 3 was the first game for them to start really experimenting and doing their own thing with the series. Imagine what they could have thought up past that.

I did like the dark world mechanic. It added a neat gameplay mechanic and you had to plan out what you were going to do next even more. I was thinking about it and it kind of goes like this.
Super Metroid: Gigantic 2D map, backtracking to get powerups to go places you couldn't before, tons of secrets.
Metroid Prime: Same thing, but in 3D with a ******** 3D map, which makes it even more ridiculous.
Metroid Prime 2: Same as Prime one but with another world parallel to yours and differences in the other one.
What if they had made Prime 3 even more ridiculous? And then they had just kept going? Nintendo's new strategy from the past five years or so realized stuff like this, and that if they kept going on like this the only people that would be able to play future games would be people that had played the last ones and realized it was just building upon what was already established.

Meta_Fish Probably. But three is just SO GOODDDD I like the atmosphere in 1 better, but it is a lot easier to make a good atmosphere when you don't have to make you don't have any other characters. 3 had a whole shitload of cool stuff that made it better. Still I kinda miss the 4 beam system with enemies that were weaker to each beam, it seems really small and forgettable, but I like little extra things like that. Also the super missles flamethrower ice spreader and ghostbusters beam.

The backtracking wasn't so bad in Prime. It was a lot worse in Super Metroid. Fusion and the prime series added events during the backtracking and changed stuff up and made it cool.

The atmosphere is better, sure, and the powerups are different, but the first two hours of Prime 3 were the best of any Metroid game for me. Everything just feels better.

Yeah, Prime 1 def. has the best atmosphere. Prime 3 competes though. I -love- Sky Town. The music, the building designs, even the enemies are just so surreal and beautiful.

I got to a lot of places in Prime that I couldn't do stuff in so I had to go back, but sometimes I just missed something little. Super Metroid had it bad, yeah.

Oh ******** steamlords for the win. Also now that I think about it wasn't there one metroid filled area somewhere in skytown? I remember this one tunnel system in one of the prime games that had metroids and it was just ******** amazing.

Super metroid was just terrible with it. I just played it again and I could feel it the whole time while playing. Well been here a few times before. I think I liked 2 because you got screw attack and could smash through s**t in 3D!
