She'd expected Toby to separate from her at some point, but it surprised her when they got to the hall. She gave him a smile. Hopefully this'd go we'll!
Maia went down the hall and to Andrew's door. She knocked.

Andrew looked up from his desk and stood to see Maia through the crack in the door.
"Come on in," he urged her, "Please, take a seat." He gestured to the chairs before his desk.

Maia took a seat. She gave Andrew a smile. Was this good news? Bad news? "You wanted to see me?" she prompted.

"Yes, I just wanted to talk to you about your application," Andrew said. He was smiling. That was a good sign, right? "If you're still interested, we've decided you'd be a great fit for the position. We'd just have a few more things to go over, is that alright?"

Really? Really, really? Maia's eyes lit up. "I'm still interested," she assured him, flashing him another smile. This was great news! "Alright," She agreed. "Paperwork?"

"Ah...yes. You're catching on quickly here," Andrew said with a little chuckle. "Contracts, disclaimers, things like that. I'll go over anything you have any questions about, but here you go." He pushed a small stack of papers toward Maia. "I think you'll find we're pretty straightforward here. Small print puts people in danger."

Maia looked through the paperwork, took a pen and looked to Andrew. She read over everything and filled it out. This reminded her of The day she'd met the boys. So much paperwork.

Andrew helped Maia find where to sign and took the papers when she slid them back to him. He double-checked everything and then offered her another smile.
"Alright, so training will start on Monday for you so we can get everyone notified. Mostly you'll be working with Agents Yraudhen and Aikley, although we run our virtual testing from a lab, but I promise everyone there's very professional. Do you have any questions?"

Training started on Monday. That was sooner than she'd expected. She recognized Toby's last name, but who was the other guy? "No questions," she smiled at Andrew. "Thank you so much."
She had to go find Toby and tell him!

Andrew stood and shook Maia's hand.
"We're glad to have you on the team." At least they would work toward that. There was a probationary period any potential hire could fail out of. Maia had just signed off on it.
Down at the end of the hall stood Toby, hunched over a hunched Dari. They saw Maia exit and Toby thrust both arms in the air. Dari straightened and grinned. Their expressions and hugs said what they'd like to have shouted in the hall: good job, congratulations, I love you!

Maia hugged each of the guys. "You heard already?" she asked. "Andrew says I'm going to be working with you, Toby." She gave him another hug. "How long were you waiting?"

Toby nodded. That was precisely why he'd brought Dari up. That man could hear everything.
"Not long," Dari said.
"Yeah? I'm sure I'll get the official memo soon," Toby said, smiling. Of course working wit him meant working with Dari as well. "Who's your Research agent?"

Realization dawned. "You cheated," she said. He'd had Dari listen in. "Lori?" she guessed. "I didn't recognize the name." But she didn't know any of the other research agents.
She looped her arm around Toby's. "C'mon you. Lunch time. I brought us some left over spaghetti."

"A little," Toby admitted with a little laugh. "So who was it? Yraudhen? Eller? Mikavi?" He followed Maia easily and Dari walked happily beside them. He knew. That didn't mean he was going to tell. Toby hadn't asked him.

"The first," Maia said, unsure of how to pronounce the name. "Are you going to work with me too, Dari? Since you're Toby's partner?" She led them to the break room and opened the fridge. She offered Toby a tupperware bowl of spaghetti, and then took another one out for herself.
