Thanks guys for the help, and as for originality that's why I added fantasy into it. I was thinking that magic could be a big part of the world also like the giant furnaces needed to power the machinery being fueled by captured fire demons and other things along that line. Like adding in great sages that know of both the magical and the mechanical arts and the cross between them known as alchemy (from what I know alchemy is supposed to be a fusion of science and magic). I don't know what do you think of it? And Scarlet Abbey will definately be an area in the guild I just love that name. Thanks to you to stray_dog for pointing out that my title was way to obvious I see that it is pretty damn cheesy.

Whoa, fueled by captured fire demons?
You just made me think of Howl's Moving Castle and Calcifer. That's awesome. That's the most awesome place to get inspiration.
I was in a steampunk rp once that combined science with magic as well, but it was also a murder mystery sort of thing, so that was pretty cool. Like Sherlock Holmes or something. Nifty.

Alchemy is not really science magic. Alchemy is more along the lines of using science to manipulate things. Experimentation. Yes, they did try occult things, but for the most part Alchemists were the original scientists. They tried to turn lead into gold. Tried to find a bunch of stuff. Just old scientists. Fullmetal alchemist made it into something more magical. And well, there is a lot of alchemist symbols and stuff and you can definitely make it into something magical, i think the more you look into it the more you realize alchemists were just people trying to figure stuff out.
How about you have an automaton revolt. haha steam powered beings who suddenly decide that all because they are copper and bronze doesn't mean they don't have souls. Be like Blade runner only steampunk style haha
Or alchemists who were trying to make the elixer of life created horrible mutated monsters and now there is a war with them.
I mean, do what you want. If you present it well enough people will join. smile

Dude Howl's moving castle was an amazing movie! And the first bit of anime I ever watched was Princess Mononoke. At first I was like pfft cartoon movie with a weir name what the hell this be? Then I started watching it and the giant talking wolves popped up and I was like I am watching this everybody stfu! And spirited away was the second peice of anime I ever watched and I loved that movie equally as much. Let's just say that studio ghibli holds a special place in my heart because of this. Oh and thanks Omega for clarifying the whole alchemy thing I haven't done much research on it and I actually watched very little full metal alchemist. I think that Darius (or another character of yours that you choose) will get a homage of some sort. Maybe the man who built the first automaton or someone who built a great tower said to hold untold riches and dangers or maybe just a tale of a man who went from mercenary to god.

and all of them sound good. Some are very Celtic sounding, which would be an interesting thing to incorporate.
Shamans and spirits and druids and the like..... it could work....
