@ Zelyhon

When the guild was originally started it probably was something geared more closely to the book. There is one by the way 3nodding Twi had updated the front page with mention of some of the original characters and what not. Since then, obviously we have branched off elsewhere.

There used to be a place to start at. That place being the Dojo, but with its destruction obviously that isn't an option anymore. Still there are a couple of entry points into play where you can ease into things. The forest, or Enid perhaps. The Universal thread which has seen no action thus far.

As you said, you'd PMed myself and D several times, working out how you could slip into the plot. Well we want to help members get into the fray, that's why we help. Back plot to read up on, well that's why the plot update was made, so they could read up more quickly and have at least some clue as to what has been going on.

Yes there are a couple of too overly overpowered characters granted, but they too have to fall within reason. Ya, they can't even be an 11 on the battle scale, though they'd have you believe differently. When they go to far, then they should be told so they'll back off a bit. If they don't then they become a problem. I also agree on your example of being blasted away at a thought, that is far too over powered especially here.

Now as for the profiles, they aren't so bad as they are really. Those members who have quit lets say should have their profiles removed maybe. That would clean things up a bit. I would ramble more but I'm ill and getting sleepy. sweatdrop Not to mention my head is getting a bit fuzzy, so I should stop there.

I remember an elf or two roaming about at one point. As for wizards, we have magic too. If they want Harry Potter then yes they're in the wrong place.

Well, again... we did have at least a couple elves running around earlier on. Wizards, not so much. For them, there are LOTR guilds. 3nodding

Even within the Dojo, it's very chaotic for a starting area. You've got people coming and going and little information about how these places interact with each other. I feel that it could be a lot more spelled out, perhaps with a thread on how/where to start in the BC along with allowing new members to ask questions there.

Yes, the front page has some information about the beginnings of the guild, but that on its own doesn't seem to me to be very helpful. The front page needs to have information more relevant to the current game, in my opinion.

Yes, and it's not a bad thing that members are willing to help integrate people into the plot. However, it ought to be possible to find the plots more easily. The updates thread is a good concept, but I find that there could be some more to it. Possibly a thing at the top about current status of the world in general. On the other hand, part of my confusion when reading it did/does stem from not knowing exactly who the characters are and their relations to each other. Reading it in retrospect, it makes more sense, but only because I've seen most of the people around. This then segues nicely into the bios part. In essence, we're advocating the same thing; that those who are inactive remove their bios, correct? Well, I was suggesting a way to do that. By making a new thread, not only do we centralize the active bios in the beginning, we remove those which aren't there. If the thread is left, people who later return can simply take their bio and post it in the new thread with no trouble.

...Actually, the 11 was a referrence to Spinal Tap, but the battle scale works too. Maybe this guild just has a much higher threshold of "allowable" power than I'm used to, but much of what a lot of people do seems like it'd fall into the overpowered range. I know when I made my character, I didn't think there were people who'd be playing that level of power in the game. It throws off balance in my opinion.

I try and chip in with recruiting, but too many do not like the plot. They prefer more... Fantasy-like Roleplays.

Elves, and wizards. Bah.

Seriously? Man, maybe I should be more thankful for the people I do get in BC xp heart

Zelyhon, you bring up several good points, I think. I'll try to address each thing you said here.

I agree, there is a multitude of different plotlines and individual stories in the guild, and finding which one you'd fit in is difficult. Unfortunately, I can't ask the current members to coordinate and intertwine their plotlines and disregard their rights to have individual and self made stories. Having establishing a point where new recruits can be briefed on all the plotlines and perhaps have a place to join in.

On your second point about guidance for initial character creation, that's also something to consider. The announcement for the rules has several other posts, which include links, glitches, and Nana's thread web. I could also add a post for suggestions about starting off. I'll work on a way that people might be more able to integrate themselves into the back story.

Yes, true, there are power issues with several characters, most of them being the more evil geared characters. That should be taken care of by putting the battle system into place. I really should make that mandatory. Maybe then people would actually start sending in battle profiles ~_~

As for asking other guilds to recruit, I have to say I think it's a bad idea. As a guild captain and having talked to other captains, I know that it's VERY annoying and sometimes rude and/or offensive to be asked to advertise an unaffiliated guild in one's own guild. Sure if members of this guild are captains of other guild then it would be easier. That would be better than just looking for guilds to recruit in. Other than that, there needs to be some effort outside of the guilds probably.

I'll also try to work on somethin which more fully explains what the central, more permanent plot is. Nana's sticky is nice for recent updates, but it's not broad enough in scope, so I'll probably set up something in the first post which has the total overview.

The profiles are not really necessary, but it might be nice to do something with them... I'll need more thought on that.

Anyway, thanks for posting your ideas and concerns 3nodding Some of those ideas could be quite helpful.

That does seem to address most of the concerns and issues I had when joining in. Just my few notes on that:

I don't think they should be forced to weave together, but maybe if it was agreed upon to some extent about possibly integrating points from one into another. This'd be especially helpful for those in multiple storylines. For example, the path I've roughly plotted out for Derrek (my character) would eventually take him to a position where he'd be an antagonist, creating general mayhem for, well, pretty much anyone he runs into. To weave in and out of existing plots like that would be hard without knowing so much about them. They ought not to be forced to converge, I fully agree. But without something basic tying them together, it seems like the guild is somewhat fractured in what everyone is doing, which makes it all the harder for those in multiple plots to try and get things to work.

A "getting started" thread would be very helpful, I feel. Dramatis Personae, basic overviews of the plots (with deeper looks elsewhere), and tips on the world of BC and characters within for making a new character.

Evil characters ought to have more power than those who are good. I have no problem with them being somewhat more powerful. However, I just think that a lot of what is now goes a bit too far, forcing others then to go that far as well to deal with it. I've been brainstorming in my head how to tone down my antagonist idea because I felt it was too powerful, but some of the stuff I've seen here matches it if not exceeds it. I wouldn't mind instituting the battle system. I haven't taken a look at it in a while, but once I do again, I can try to offer my advice on it as well.

I wasn't saying so much go to guilds that are RPs. I meant more of go to guilds where RPers converge. General discussion RP guilds, if you will. One I'm in (and haven't checked in a while sweatdrop ) is called SDRP, School for Dedicated Role-Players. It's not a guild specifically for one game like BC is. It's a general hangout place for RPers, where many of them do start games and do advertise the games they're in. Actually, if you check the stickey in Barton Town (started by SDRP. Or at least, the original incarnation was. This might be a different one Penden made. I seem to recall Fenrir SongMoon making the first one, but that's neither here nor there), they have listed RP guilds which might be of this sort. Those are the ones I was thinking we might look into.

That's most of what I have specific comments on.

As far as I can tell this guild doesn't have a central plot, at all. The nearest thing to a central plot was the fighting over the swords a long while back. In any case, there's also the Hathus thing which wasn't central but was at least open to all.

*Yawn.*

Some fraction of everything might be related to the geographic layout of the BC. It's huge. Leaves one questioning where to go and what to do. As opposed to the old BC thread which was essentially one building, the Dojo.
