You know, I wonder what that red scarf would look like on someone with the belted stuff. question

Reminds me of how I could tell which avatars 9 had just from the grammar xp Was so easy

Well I think it would be rather awkward at this point in the game to switch back to a non-GGN guild thread. One problem with that is the dojo is destroyed.... it wouldn't be good to recruit people in one thread and then have them switch over to another. We have so few members we couldn't really split between the two.

I'm certainly not opposed to having other recruitment threads in all the other areas that it's allowed, but there's not much we can do there.

The biggest problem with the ad in the captains guild is that I believe only captain's can see it and respond to it. What would be better is having an ad in the middle of where everyone usually goes. We wouldn't necessarily get the most literate RPers, but we'd probably get some active ones.

like a red scarf at the neck of a belted top... duh xp I don't think it'll look that great with the belted attire.

*Twitch.*

I'm just thinking of things off the top of my head. Surprised everyone isn't running around claiming to be vincent now.

Or maybe the n00bs are.

Again I point out "registered guilds". Open for public viewing.

Registered Guilds. Bah.

Indeed, good point on the whole Dojo thing. I'm surprised I overlooked that. In any case though, I think an actual RP base would be much better than a player base. I mean, we can get hundreds of players, but that won't make them post. If we can get characters engrained into the guild and enjoying it, then they'll post here, there, everywhere.

Sadly, Yotsy needs to go to bed. She's already getting a headache.
I'm not sure when I will be online next. My brother's father died this morning and things have not been well. I hope to be back around really soon and in higher spirits.

On the earlier topic of recruitment, I'll chip in my two cents. I'm one of the newer regular players of the guild, so I might have a different perspective on the whole thing.

For one thing, an RP guild like this is pretty hard to run. I speak from experience on this. It's hard to draw people in and keep them interested. It's even harder, though, to try and get people in once the game has already begun. At that point, the plot's advanced (in the case of a game with one overriding plot) or members have kinda segmented off into their own little things (in games without a main plot, kinda like this one). Either of those are intimidating to get in the middle of. With so many twisting storylines in the BC, it's massively hard to find somewhere to start out. Everyone's doing their own thing and there's more backstory to assimilate and try to work ones self into. If things were pretty clearly spelled out as far as what has happened and where a nice place might be to begin, then it might be easier. I personally had to IM Nana and Draeken at length to try and find a place to fit in before beginning. There need to be clear openings for people to join, else they'll either forget it or just putter around on their own until they lose interest.

Part of these problems are automatic to games without a central story. That in some ways provides more freedom to character creation. That's one thing this game has in spades; the ability to create nearly any character. However, without some guidance regarding the current situation, it's hard to know what to make and how to play them. Those who always play the same thing don't worry about it, but to those of us who make a new(ish) character for games, it's not as easy. There's no limitation on what is possible. This is both positive and negative. It allows for a good variety, but also lets people run a bit wild. Anyone want to count the number of werewolves/haf-somethings in the current profiles? There ought to be some guidance as to the world so that characters may more carefully fit. I'm not saying to disallow free-form creation, but a few notes and limits (like on starting power, which is another issue) wouldn't hurt.

A personal thought of mine regards antagonists. I don't think it's a bad thing that players are allowed to create antagonists. However, with some of them (and some protagonists), there're some serious issues with being overpowered. I don't think having powerful characters is necessarily a bad thing, but past a point, it becomes hard to join a game with them. There's only so much one can do without god-moding. This isn't to criticize people directly. I'm nowhere near established enough here to think of that, but maybe turning it down from 11 might be a possibility. Think of creative ways to use less power or simply restrict it a bit. When you've got someone who can blast you into another dimension with a thought, there's not as much incentive to join, in my opinion.

There's my thoughts on why many people don't join. Now, as to recruiting, I'd hunt down other RPing guilds and either mention it directly to them (if public) or talk to the captain and ask if they would mention it in the guild. You're more likely to find players if you check places which role-players frequent. BC's not something based on a specific series/book/whatever, so you can't hunt down fans of the base. Try searching the GGN for general role-playing guilds and talk to them about it.

I'd also suggest that we have a more thorough listing of the plot and some of the characters within it. It's pretty vague as it is now. Important plot lines and relations ought to get more than a single line that vaguely sums it up. Also, weeding down the profiles list wouldn't hurt either. Possibly it could be unstickied and a new one made. People still actively involved can simply repaste their bios from the old one into the new one with little to no problem. This would reduce the number of characters people need to read through to find those who are still involved. It'd also help people by making the more prominant members bios mostly up front.

Those're just some suggestions to consider. In the end, it's not my call as to what needs to be fixed or how we do that. I'm just putting my two cents out there for people to consider.

I try and chip in with recruiting, but too many do not like the plot. They prefer more... Fantasy-like Roleplays.

Elves, and wizards. Bah.
