Every MMO should have a weekly event where everyone of every level and class from the server gets together to defend the city from an army of monsters.
Every MMO
Here are my three MMO commandments... AKA, the "ABCs of Why I don't play MMOs" list.
A) It should deliver you to interesting destinations, and you should have to work to get to them, not to get out of them.
B) Spoils should be given is such amounts that you will be able to outfit your character in whatever armor is standard, simply by completing the same challenges required to progress in the game.
C) Allow great amounts of customizability. As an extension of your person, it's kinda important that it represent YOU.
When I become an ideas guy for Nintendo, I'm gonna take them massive.

Bloomtail Meta_Fish Super Cheesio Meta_Fish Super Cheesio Meta_Fish I finished all the Scott Pilgrim books, now I need to see the movie! I just finished book 2. I love what I've read so far. Probably gonna just buy all the rest of the books in one go and read them in a day. They're very well done. I enjoyed them a lot. I really like how O'Malley puts video game references all over the place subtly enough that the story never goes out of its way to incorporate them, yet recognizable enough for you to go "oh woah!" ...You mean like in Super Mario Bros. 2? Hm? What? The SMB2 reference? I might have missed/forgotten it. xd In the first book, someone was talking to him about how Ramona goes through subspace or something like that and he's like "...You mean like in Super Mario Bros. 2?" xd Then in the second one: "Ow! You grazed me!" "How appropriate, you fight like a cow." Man, I really need to read the rest of the series. It's really good so far. Also, did you know Wallace was gay?

Bloomtail Also, too much grinding. :/ That's what I was implying by, working to get in, not working to get out. In FFXI you will be stuck in the same damn area for 10 levels or more, fighting generally the same monsters, and failing parties. The whole game's broken, actually... That's just the most immediately apparent thing. I never tried any private servers, since Square was cracking down on them, but I bet it wouldn't have been too hard for those users to repair the game. The content was fine, the game, however, was painful.

Like Ultima Online. That was the perfect MMO ever created. There was literally no grinding because your skills and stats naturally got better as you roamed the world, galavanting at your leisure. No game has ever captured that sense of open adventure since UO.
