Pigeons have been trained by the U.S. Coast Guard to spot people lost at sea.
How helpful can they be? So they know that there was a lost person at sea, but knowing where is the majority of the battle.
I also heard that the French continued to use carrier pigeons to carry battle plans in WWII. hehe. Oh the French.

Theodore Roosevelt was the only president who was blind in one eye.
He's also one of my fave presidents. He one time wandered with the Sierra Club founder (or a similar agency) on a hiking trip and disappeared for a couple of days. So the president was MIA for a while. Poor Secret Service must've been peeing themselves...
