Ivan would place his jacket once more acrossed his form with a flourish, before bowing again, deeper, more... formal.

"Aye, sir, hopefully." At the mention of minding himself, he nodded, and at the mention of Fauger, he'd nod again.

"I will, sir."

Ivan's feet made haste with beating pavement, following Dolo's directions from a rather well set memory, arriving at Fauger's place within the hour.

However, no pause was given, as he mounted the stairs with a boyishness, a happiness to once again be about his duties. His hand would knock upon the door, once, twice, thrice, and he'd wait. The man had wanted a stroll, yes?

This house was much the same as the other, since it was in the same neighborhood. A different arrangement of elements- wider yard, a cement path directly from the front steps to the gate beside winding rock steps (with the lack of dirt on the cement, the path seemed new or at least refreshed with a new layer. The rocks led to a small pond with a bridge over it. The grass was freshly cut, the bushes fresly trimmed...

Same book, different cover.

Such was the story with the knocking. A thump, but no curse or crash. The curtain over the glass-face door parted low and a gruff voice spoke.

"Who's calling?"

And so a bird flew over Latent.

What a nice bird.

Eyes took in the slight differences, as ears took in the new character... Voice would respond in a kind tone.

"Ivan Williams, Sir. You left a message on a board, seeking a companion for a stroll?"

He'd clear his throat neatly, hands behind back in a double grip. His eyes were solidly on the front of the door, as it hadn't opened yet.

"If you'd like to validate my... presence, Dolo Groilin sends his best regards. I've just helped him with a rat problem, you see... And I figure, since I'm in the neighborhood...." A delicate movement of the head turned his gaze into the direction of where a peeker might pull the curtains. "I'd love to be of service."

He grunted, then opened the door after unlocking it. Fauger was noticably grayer, more stocky, more hairy, more lined person than the last. However, it seemed that he could still handle his own if he had his legs; his genes slated him for a long life, and his prior activities kept him fit and healthy, which certainly helped him age extremely well. He wasn't exactly human- looked more like a half-orc or something with the low brow and underbite, but he was certainly suseptible to the constant beating of time. His eyes were fierce, a sort of gold shining from the stark white that was the rest of his body. He was thought to be albino something, if not for his eyes being golden instead of red.

"That rat b*****d hasn't shown up in months before news of his fall. All the same, now's fine." The dragon's head sculpted atop his metal cane quickly leaned down his way. His cane was NOT for show, but magic wasn't going to heal his legs. It was outside the scope of his ability.

"You always show up to walk crippled people with a bat?"
PostPosted: Thu Jun 07, 2007 7:13 pm

"Stereotypical rule for adventurers, Sir. Rats aren't usually rats, if they need an adventurer to handle it." He brought a little grin at the end of the joke. "I was figuring I'd have to beat the snot out of them. Apparently not so, so I went and took a gentler approach. Dolo had some feed up in his attic, so the rats weren't a big threat. Just trying to survive."

He took a slight bow, taking a step back for the man to observe him, and the like to be exchanged. Ivan himself had something in common with the man before him. He was solidly built. Probably a stunning blocker in football. A powerhouse in the ring. But sports weren't for him, as the two hilts over a shoulder showed.

"I asked Dolo the same, and I won't spare you none, so... Mind if I asked what happened to ya?"

"My name ain't Dolo, s'mind your own. If it matters, t'was a dragon."

He waited for a second, then leaned forward. "Said before, now's fine. Why ain't you strollin' me yet?"

Ivan moved quietly behind the chair, pushing it down the ramp with control in his feet as well as hands, before guiding the chair quietly towards the forest.

He grinned to himself, at the crotchety old mans attitude, despite his incapacitation. Surely, with such an attitude still borne on a body that had such a great disability, the man was formidable in some manner.

"So, anywhere in particular you'd like to go?

Maximos
Johns view were so odd...
They so clearly came from a completely different school of thought. His right hand whipped outward, snapping the coin out of the air. The small metal disk was pushed up and rolled along his knuckles before being pinched between his thumb, and the side of his index finger.
He held it up to the light, letting the sunlight glimmer off it as he gazed intently at it. As if not only staring at it, but staring through it. Into it.
I always seen our differences, I've seen as two individuals that are impossibly different...I've never imagined the sheer number and scope of our differences as the thing that binds us...
He lifted the coin a bit higher, his eyes never breaking contact with it. Never looking away, as if this small trinket held all the answers.
But...this analogy is perfect...two sides, completely opposite...
His words dragged, as if an epiphany was about to dawn on his dark mind.
...never able to stand truly side by side...two friends...
A drop of black seemed to seem from his finger onto the coin making a rune. A rune which bled making another rune. And then another rune. And another, until in a matter of about two seconds the runes covered the coin.
...and neither of which have a place on this world...
The runes overtook the coin, covering its entire surface in jet black, at which point the coin quite literally disintegrated blowing away in the first gently breeze. Maximos rubbed his fingers together sprinkling off a bit of black powder into the sand. And then looking back at the ocean.
His eyes sliding back to the ocean, a very relaxing thing. The fate of the coin, a sign of the fate they both shared. And example even Tomorrow would be able to understand. Both of them should have been slain by the Reapers, the better killer was chosen to serve. The other was left to obey. But there was no avoiding their fate.

"Perhaps thats why we've always come to a head." John said, looking over the sea along with Maximos. "We cannot exist together. Or perhaps, our existance deems us to collide universally, again and again, forever and ever."

He shrugged. "Or perhaps its not that...perhaps the coin isn't as destroyed as simply as that. Perhaps each struggle was a toss of the coin, each battle brought about by a flick of fate. Perhaps all I did back then was give it one final toss, sent it spinning in the air, to land with one face up."

He turned away from the ocean, from his friend, his face hidden from view. "...But then, you have always defeated me. Time and time again, almost without fail, without contest - which makes me beleive that the coin is rigged. You hold both sides of the coin, and continually i play the game, blindly and without hesitation. A fools errand, if ever there was one." His voice grew a little dark then, his hands in his pockets balling into fists. "Perhaps this should be my final play. Chance has never suited me well, even though i live my life by it."

He let out a short breath, almost as if releasing his frustration, before turning to Maximos, a small smile on his face. "Come. Lets go someplace else. The nostaliga is beginning to get to me."

Maximos let out a clearly exasperated sigh as the black powder flitted from his fingers an stained the sand. As Tomorrow spoke his right foot motioned through the sand mixing tan with black and allowing the black powder to be all but unnoticeable. He shook his head, wavering the draw strings for his hood back and forth, and letting the skull beads at their ends jingle lightly as they moved.

Fate...destiny...universal conflict...

He let out a small laugh, clearly not because something actually funny was said, but more obviously a laugh at the ideals he had mentioned above.

...your type seems obsessed with those imaginary concepts.

He turns his head to face Tomorrow, his face flat. Not as the Reaper that stole Tomorrow's arm but more like a child who had heard the same lecture from his parent 10,000 times and just does not want to take it anymore. And the fact was, he had heard this, and he had heard it so very many times. Another god, present with the truth directly between the eyes.

...the universe has no plan. It is a mess of free wills clashing and colliding with each other, it doesnt care, it never has, it never will. We're grains of dust in the hour glass.

He gave Tomorrow a moment to let it soak, before continuing.

Do you understand? Dust. And the hour glass was not made to hold marbles, trying to be more than they should.

He closed his eyes and shook his head side to side slowly.

...I hear this all the time Tomorrow.

Another sigh...some kinds really never do change. Perhaps it was just a godlings nature to attempt to hold the universe on a grander scale. Maximos however so it from the eyes of a man, a man dead then alive. And a man who understood exactly how cold even Heaven could be. His head slowly turned back to the water.

Lets, this is your journey, where to next?

"Been a while since I've been about some trees. Forest path's near ain't it? Can't remember..." Despite everything, age was catching up to him. Couldn't run away from it fast enough in the stupid chair. "If not, park's fine. As long as there are trees, birds, and hopefully kids playin'. Laugher's calming, you know."

With Ivan ready to drive, Fauger leaned back and lowered his lids that the sun would play with his vision. "If I fall asleep, just leave me be. Never sleep for long, anyway."
PostPosted: Sun Jun 10, 2007 9:27 pm

"Aye, Sir."

Ivan would drive indeed, finding this to be his more relaxing quest of the day. He would lead towards the forest, smiling quietly and nodding again, at the request.

"Aye, Sir. I will."

It was a walk through the forest. He knew he'd be asleep soon enough... it was too bad he'd miss much of the scenery, but for most of the trip, Fauger would be KO'd. Like a person in a car, it was the gentle bumping and rocking, along with his actual fatigue, that had him under. Short of hitting rocks or curbs hard, or getting thrown... or anything else that would jolt him...

It was just a walk. No beasts jumped out of the woods to attack them, either.

Ivan wasn't worried about it. It was a nice day, anyways. He'd push Fauger around the forest path, double back sometimes, to elognate the ride until the man decided he wanted to go home.

What else did Ivan have to do with his day?

How could a man who had died and come back, whose 'calling' was to reap the souls of the living, not beleive in fate? It was a question that vexed John, but he did not voice it - that would have to come later, a deeper conversation kept for a different locale.

John stood for a moment, regarding his friend, looking him up and down. Where to next? the mountains? Or perhaps one of the settlements?

The City. Durem held much for John, even if it was all bad. It would be nice to have this new Maximos' opinion on those events.

"We'll go to Durem. I'll introduce you to a few friends of mine, from a while back. We'll have lunch there, perhaps a drink. Relax a little, yeah?" John asked, turning as he talked before leaping off the ground, up into the air and far far away.
