Caleidah DarkElf27 Caleidah Alexi Terianis Caleidah
Very true. I've found on many occasions that Heavy Bolters and a Lascannon have just the right amount of punch to kick down a pesky squad of Marines that are spread out just a little too much to get with an Ordinance shot. This is exactly the frame of mind I'm in when I use them. While the instant-death is often nice, it is not common that it's an option. More often, the lascannon is an assured kill (if it hits) while the heavy bolters are there to chew through the flak when the enemy starts getting nervous about all the big guns you've got pointed his way.
The Instant-Death is less of an option when the only person that has characters you could Instant Death just assigns the Lascannon shot off to another model.
I was just thinking about something...If an Assault Cannon was to Rend on an officer, would he just be immediately dead right there? *makes the note to take a Force Field on my HSO in the future*Unless I'm very much mistaken, rending doesn't result in auto-kill, just auto-wound.
Officer: T3. Assault Cannon: Str6 I believe that I see a problem.Ack, true enough, I had forgotten how much they nerfed Assualt Cannons.

Understandable. That and their bloody Death Company getting rending...Wark...
Does anybody in here like to use Sentinels in their army? Once I get around to my Catachan I've got two or three in their sprues that were given to me for free.

Sentinels are amazing pieces of work, I used to field 9 of the, 3 squadrons, in my mech guard army (I run mechanized guard and sometimes drop troops) put las cannons on them and maybe a heavy flamer for effect, and they can do some serious damage for the points they are worth.

Alright. I was thinking about taking three in my army, maybe a few more if I can hunt 'em down on the cheap. They'll be armed with Lascannons and Autocannons like you said, Mat. That way they can kill a little bit of everything.

I just got a heads up that the new Russ variant has been confirmed in the 5th edition rulebook. It will feature four autocannons in the turret and sponson-mounted multi-meltas eek

It will feature four autocannons in the turret and sponson-mounted multi-meltas eek This I want to see. If it's true, I'm getting one. Edit: Thinking about it, I would probably prefer a Hydra, really. I'm not that interested in the multi-meltas. But I'm a HUGE fan of the autocannons, so I'd still like to see this. Also, as per sentinels, I use them as well. I have a single autocannon armed one, with armored crew compartment (I face a lot of eldar, and this serves well to skirmish with their light vehicles) and two with multilasers. I face orks and tyranids a fair amount, so these solve that issue. My other six all have heavy flamers, for obvious reasons. Churn and burn, tyranid scum, churn and burn. Also works well on orks, and my favorite, cityfight.

Hm...sounds good, especially because I'm going to be getting the book for Cities of Death tonight.

The main difference between the Hydra and the new Russ variant is that the Hydra is an AA vehicle with a minimum range of 12", something that the new Russ variant will not suffer from.

Where did you see this rumor originally? Edit: I ask because it makes things odd, to me. Seems to me that they would just revive the Exterminator, instead of making another huge, powerful tank.

A friend gave me a heads up that a small technical drawing of the new tank can be found in the 5th edition book in the Imperial Guard chapter. It has four guns sticking from the turret along with multi-melta sponsons.

You forgot to mention that some of those designs are just try-outs and not actual product designs.
