The ultimate predator for many which I've seen used in almost all armies, especially at tournaments and conventions is a Predator Annihilator (twinlinked lascannon) and heavy bolter side sponsons, then you can move up to 6" AND fire all weapons since the ehavy bolters are defensive weapon systems. :B

Lots of marines and scouts ready for CC. At least one jump pack equipped unit, or bikes. Other than that maybe transports. Ultimately the best way to deal with tau is to just get face to face as fast as possible.
If the tau player is smart and uses transports to make a mobile force than Id say brink something that can crack tanks so your men can get to the units in them, but otherwise you should be good.

CC terminators are realy good ,however, they will die super fast i you don't deep strike them or send them riding in a land raider as everything with a gun will start shooting at them.

With the Destructor, the Autocannon plus HB shots turn it into a pretty good infantry mincing vehicle, while still menacing light vehicles, and the Annihilator allows it to fire all weapons if it moves, even if the HB may not normally affect the target.

Bretheren is a no-no against Tau. Trust me, a combat heavy unit will get shot to pieces before it's even off the starting line, I've seen too many games at my club where this happens.

I second that one... Happens all the time to my Templars. Unless I'm on a terrain heavy table, then they never get to the enemy when I need them to. Try using Assault Marines instead, and keep them behind terrain. You should be able to get them to the enemy in one piece that way.

Well, besides that sword brethren would need to be in a transport as the point of taking on tau with marines is getting in there as quick as possible, thus making assault marines or bikers better.
The thing is, that sword brethren are pretty awesome in close combat, but you dont need them, as even IG kick a** in close combat against tau. Against tau its speed and quantity of units getting into close combat rather than quality.

I personally prefer a static army, but when fighting Tau it is always good to get right up to them as quickly as possible. At long range they can blast you to bits before you can even get in range.
On another note, do the new veterans have the arms attached to them or are they loose in the case when you buy them?

foxyguy619: Mark IV is like horus heresy era stuff, hell maybe even pre heresy. Current marine armor is Mk 7, and theres art and supposedly some models of Mk 8. Some veterans have Mk 6 armor, and Mk 6 helmets and older versions are available on some models.
PyroXTech: I prefer mobile fire armies, lots of tactical squads with rhinos. Which seems to work very well against tau, I didnt really have to get into CC when Ive faced them, being in rapid fire bolter range with a kitted out rhino seemed to be enough.

Kento: The master of the armory model is supposedly wearing Mk IV Iron Armor.
Also. I am beginning my second army. Blood Angels. I figure it's a refreshing step away from Necrons. I already got Mephiston and I'm saving up to get a starter army whch will be supplemented by assault squads. Any advice?
