Originally, Obon odori has its explanation from the Buddhist Sanskrit Ullambana Sutra. The sutra explains that Mogallana who was one of the ten great disciples of the Buddha, in meditation, saw his deceased mother suffering in the world of Hungry Ghosts. He tries to give her food but the food turns to flame. In a querry, he turns to Buddha for guidance. Buddha advises Mogallana to participate in a "Jishi", an annual retreat and make a offering to his fellow monks. A Urabon, memorial service, was held and Mogallana sees that his mother is released from her afflictions and Mogallana dances for joy. Today, the observance has been intrepreted in general by Buddhists that during Obon, one should return home, be with family and remember those who have passed on. It also usually includes observance by dancing Japanese folk dances at the neighborhood Buddhist temple. The dances are very easy and also repetitive, so anyone can do it, really.

My, where did everyone go...? =_=;; Oh, and btw, it's not raining here. It hasn't rained for a long time. Today, the temperature was over 105. Not likely in a time like this now is it?

It's really pretty to see all of the girls and women in their yukatas because they have all different colors and designs. And the lanterns are beautiful at night! I like eating the snowcones too^^

hi you guys i am back from camping... but my muscles are uber sore and its was scorching hot there, so i am glad to be back!
