Glitter, for lots of things you're going to feel like a total goober, like "Why the hell am I narrating what color the peas are?" but it totally works.

Just start working colors into what he's doing during the day.

"Lets go get some clothing, oh here is a nice BLUE shirt. See the blue shirt and how it has a YELLOW bus on it."

And then later if say you see a school bus or something: "See look that's a school bus they are YELLOW, just like your shirt."

Making connections between colors is a big deal, like even if your shirt is light blue and his is dark blue, telling him that both are blue is good.

Also, impromptu quizzes, like get out some crayons or say you have colored fishes on your shower curtain, or ANYTHING that has a smattering of colors. Just start asking him. First you can ask, say what the color is and then move on.

If you don't have anything like this. Go to Home Depot, and get some paint swatches (you can get ones shaped like Mickey Mouse, they're free and seriously you can take like a billion and the people there don't say anything) put them on a board and you can go over colors with him like a fun game.

Getting paint sample cards to work on colors-what a great idea, Nopen! I'll have to remember that!

Another thing you could do to work on colors is to make your own book. Just cut out pictures of yellow things, blue things, green things, etc. from magazines and paste all of the same color things on a page together. Laminate the pages or put them in sheet protectors and put them in a binder. Then D would have his very own book. You could title it "D's Colors Book." This would be easy enough to d with other things, too, such as animals or even letters (put things that start with the same letter on a page together) and numbers (put a group 3 things on the 3 page, 4 things on the 4 page, and so on.)

When I was first introducing my kids to colors, I would make them little books and do little quizzes. And then randomly throughout the day, I'd point out things that were 'x' color and get them to repeat it and then we'd talk about 'x' color for a bit and point out other things nearby that were also 'x' color.

The key is to make it fun... like a game. That will keep him interested with it. As long as learning is enjoyable, kids are more likely to be more enthusiastic about it. Playing "Eye Spy/I Spy" is a good method as well:

"I spy with my little eye, something that is green. Can you tell me what I see?"

Just fun little random things like that go a looooong way with kids.

Heh that reminds me of the Malcom in the Middle episode. Jamie isn't talking and of course the doctors are expecting him to know everything and say everything. So they tell Lois that she needs to talk, narrate, every single detail of what she's doing/eating/everything. So, she ends up talking about her life and where it's been and going and more just spoken inner monologue. Finally after going through so much of this nonstop yammering, Jamie is by himself and finally says something.

"Shut up, sheez."

Oh but wanted to add, it'll work out. Logan's supposed to start his speech therapy and I cant' help but have that mommy guilt like I did something wrong, you know? I'm just glad he's getting this taken care of before he starts school and I think he'll have fun with it.

We can go through the guilty mom thing together I think. I think D will get into the program.

P: Thanks for the advice guys. I definitely need to get out to a hardware shop and a craft shop.

Heh, I'm finishing my last 2 major assignments. One due Thursday, almost done, the other due Friday and hasn't been started at all. whee
We finish Dec. 7th and then exams start, but I'm not worried about the exams, so I'm just looking forward to the 7th. No more classes after that until January! biggrin

My last major assignment is due on the 7th. This is the last day of classes for us as well. Finals worry me alittle but I kept getting my midterms clumped together so I had some practice with time managing the studying.

D got into speech therapy. He'll have some one working with his language skills and some one working with his communication skills in other areas once a week. Not on the same day though. So, I'll be pretty busy soon since he'll have 3 different appointments every week for a while now. They might try to combine them with Brenda sometimes though, but he knows Brenda. So, that shouldn't be a problem.

Wish me luck?
