Hey, anyone mind if I derail this conversation for a bit? No? Good, because I'm doing it anyway.
Anyone here get their hands on Dark Souls 2 yet? Besides me, of course...

WE'RE GO-ING OFF THE RAILS ON THE CON-VER-SAT-ION! *plays Crazy Train riff on electric didgeridoo* ...So that's really more like a doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo. "I'm going off the rails on the crazy train, sir!"I'm also in the beatable games category, unless I play a really hard game Super Meat Boy or I Wanna Be The Guy on a whim. I've heard that Dark Souls has some good story stuff. Is it worth the torment? Oh, also, I found the April Fools items, if anybody wants them: http://www.gaiaonline.com/grant?key=jigglyeyeshttp://www.gaiaonline.com/grant?key=jigglyeyesanimalCLCyrus I don't even know what Steam is....I was just guessing.... Steam is Valve's digital game distribution platform. It's pretty good if you're looking for PC games.

Evilweirdo 0 I've heard that Dark Souls has some good story stuff. Is it worth the torment Nope, the game is more cheap than hard and most of the so called story appears to be stuff made up by fans

Steam is Valve's digital game distribution platform. It's pretty good if you're looking for PC games. Dark souls does have some cheap moments...Bed of Chaos and a certain pair of archers come to mind...but mostly if you die, it's your fault. Same with the sequel. The first game, Demon's Souls, on the other hand feels less...I dunno...it just isn't as good.
The story for the first is stronger than the story for the second. It's not "made up by fans" as Shade says, all the lore is on the descriptions of the items you find, so you get bits and pieces of the story as you explore and make it through the game, which is a pretty cool way to learn the story instead of having it thrown at your face from the get-go.
The best part about it is the replayability, to be honest. Once you finally beat it the first time, which you will with enough perseverance, going through it again with a new character and totally different play style is really fun, especially since you'll already know where most of the game's items are and already know all the boss' tricks. You'll still die quite a few times on a second playthrough, but you'll go into the game already knowing what to expect, and giving the game a thrashing after it kicks you around the first time you play it is very satisfying.
The best part about souls games is the satisfaction you get after finally defeating a part you're stuck on. After dying like 8 times on a boss learning more and more about their patterns and attacks and finally using the knowledge to take them down is immensely satisfying and fun.
If you're still not sold, Evil, then try renting dark souls before buying it, try it out for a couple days, and if you're not hooked on it, don't worry about it. At least you gave it a chance.

I've been considering borrowing it from someone I know, so I might do that when I've whittled down my game lineup.
Cheap, but it's your fault if you die... That reminds me a bit of Super Meat Boy, actually. I might give this game a try, because I tend to be better at action-rpg-ish stuff than at platformers.

Just don't button-mash. It's an action-rpg where every action must be considered or you might end up dead...but since dying is a central game mechanic, it's not so bad.

No button-mashing? Okay. Sounds like this takes some dexterity and/or persistence. Or maybe some SCIENCE! ... *stands there awkwardly with fist in air* Anyway, speaking of dead music...
